<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

METHOD AND DEVICE FOR THE EXECUTION OF CBLONG BODIES WITH VARIABLE PROFILE
BY TRUNCONSo
The invention relates to a method for the production of oblong bodies with variable profile in sections and is characterized by the application of a; extrusion in which tools (dies, mandrels) of various appropriate fbrmes act successively on the blank.
This principle can be carried out in an advantageous manner with the aid of various devices. Thus, the tools, the fihiers for example, can be replaced after the shaping of each section. Or, it is possible to provide several - at least two - dies located one after the other and held by advanced stops during extrusion.
To ensure rapid operation - which is especially important in hot extrusion - it is extremely advantageous to provide control members for the removal of the stops, influenced by the progress of the extrusion.
The actuators can be influenced by the punch or by the extruded rod. The means used for this purpose may consist of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic or pneumatic devices.
In this case, the staff in charge of the press should not take care to remove the stops in due time, this being done automatically according to the progress of the extrusion.
Other advantageous details of the invention will emerge from the embodiments described below and shown in the appended drawings, where:
Figures 1 to 4 show a device for carrying out the extrusion process, with replacement of dies.
Figures 5 to 8 show a similar device, but comprising two dies located one behind the other and held by stops that can be removed during extrusion.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Figures 9 and 10 show a section of a press comprising a mechanical control system actuated by the punch and serving to move the stops of one of the dies.
@ Figure 11 is a sectional view of a press with a control device electrically influenced by the extrusion rod.
FIG. 1 shows an oblong hollow body 1 with a solid appendage 2 called to be executed by the method according to the invention. To this end and as' shown in Figure 2, an ingot 6 is introduced into a compression chamber 3 closed by a replaceable die 4, the orifice 5 of which corresponds to the section of appendix 2. In the compression chamber 3 is movably mounted a punch 7, in which a mandrel 8 moves longitudinally
The ingot 6 is first pierced by the mandrel 8, while the extruded metal is extruded as a strand through the die orifice 5 to form the appendix 2. As shown in Figure 3. , a hollow body 9 in the form of a cup is obtained, provided with the appendix 2.
The die 4 is then removed which is replaced by a die 10, with orifice 11, wider (FIG. 4). The metal forming the cup 9 is first extruded through the orifice 11 as a result of a simultaneous advance of the punch 7 and the mandrel 8. The latter stops after having entered the orifice 11, while the punch 7 continues to advance and completely pushes the metal, through the annular space between the mandrel 8 and the die orifice 11, thus forming the hollow body 1. The press residue 12 can be removed at the end of the process. surgery.
However, nothing prevents' giving this residue the form of a flange, a shoulder, etc ..., integral with 3? element to be executed, with an appropriate conformation of the internal surface of the die or of the end face of the punch 7.
The element shown in section in Figure 5 consists of a hollow cylinder 13 and a tubular appendage 14. To make this element, and in accordance with Figure 6, is introduced into a compression chamber 16, a drilled cylindrical ingot 15 to thick walls. The chamber 16 is closed by dies 17-18 located one behind the other and the orifices 19 and 20 of which correspond to the outer diameters of the sections 13 and 14 of the hollow body to be executed. During extrusion, the die 17 is secured to the compression chamber 16, by means of the stops 17 ', while the upstream die 18 is supported on retractable stops. Here also, the press comprises a hollow punch 22 and a mandrel 23, 24, movably mounted therein, but which here has circular steps.
The mandrel is introduced from a distance such that its large diameter section 23 penetrates into the large orifice 19, while its smaller diameter section 24 extends into the orifice 20, which is more narrow. The mandrel 23, 24 is immobilized during the actual extrusion operation.
The advance of the punch 22 first forces the metal through the annular space between the narrow die port 20 and the small diameter mandrel section 24, to form the tubular appendage 14, until it is last has reached the required length. The latter situation is shown in Figure 7. The stops 21 are erased at this time.
As the extrusion continues, the metal escapes through the annular space between the large die orifice 19 and the large diameter section 23 of the mandrel, so as to form the hollow cylinder 13. During this operation, the die 18 moves together with the sausage. The press residue 25 is removed after the removal of the stops 17 'and the removal of the die 17, unless it is a question of carrying out an element having a flange or a shoulder corresponding to this residue.
FIGS. 9 and 10 represent the control system for the removal of the stops 21 in the extrusion operation described above, FIG. 9 relating to the instant immediately preceding this erasure and FIG. 10, to the instant immediately following it.The stops 21, provided in a desired number on the periphery of the die 18, are guided
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
by ramps formed by surfaces 26, 27 slanting outwardly.
-These stops have cams 28 with stop surfaces 29, parallel to the direction of the punch and control surfaces 30, which incline inwardly, at an angle to the direction of the punch, At each stop 21 is assigned a control slide 32 movable parallel to the direction of the punch in a guide 33 and subjected to the action of a spring 34 (in the upper half of Figures 9 and 10, omitted, for reasons of clarity , part of the pusher, as well as the spring).
In order to be able to cooperate with the appropriate surfaces of the cam 28 of the stop 21, the slider has a stop surface 35 parallel to the direction of movement of this slider, as well as a control surface 36 oriented obliquely. The punch 22 comprises arms 37 intended to abut against the end surface 38 of the sliders 32.
When the extrusion has advanced to the stage shown for example in Figure 7, the arms 37 meet the end surfaces 38 of the sliders 32 and during the subsequent advance of the punch 22 move the latter against the slider. action of the springs 34 until the stop surfaces 35 of the sliders 32 have passed the corresponding surfaces 29 of the cams 28. At this point, the pressure exerted in the press above. of the die 18 is able to move the stops 21 outwardly along their oblique sliding paths 26-27, until these stops release the die 18, as shown in Figure 10.
During this operation, the cams 28 of the stops 21 have moved the sliders 32 a new distance in the direction of the punch, thanks to the collaboration of the control surfaces 30 and 36, so that the end surfaces 38 of these slides have acquired a certain advance relative to the thrust arm 37 of the punch 22 The die 18, driven by the extrusion rod, first prevents the stops 21 from advancing again under the action of the spring 34 When the die has passed the stop slats, the pusher arms 37 have again reached the sliders 32 and cause the stops 21 to remain withdrawn.
However, it is possible to provide particular stopper members which, after the return of the punch, maintain the stops 21 in the withdrawn position, until a new ingot is introduced for the next extrusion operation and sector 18 has resumed its place. It is also possible to provide suitable control devices for the stops 17 '(these have not been shown in FIGS. 9 and 10 for the sake of clarity).
The electrical control system shown in Figure 11 is engaged by the extrusion rod. A feeler 39 is held by a spring 40 so as to interpose itself in the path of the coil in the manner of a click or toggle lock. When the flange 14 meets the probe 39, the latter is reversed in the position shown in dotted lines and closes the switch 41 which controls the circuit of the solenoids 42.
These then attract the frames 43 fixed to the slides 32, which move to the left, thus unlocking the stops 21.
The die 18 is established in several parts in this example.
These different parts have protrusions which together constitute a ring 18 ', the outer surface of which fits into a suitable extension of the die 17, which keeps the die 18 assembled when it occupies its working position. When, after the removal of the stops 21, the ring 18 'of the die 18 has been pushed back from the die 17 by the rod as a result of the progression of the latter, the various elements of the die 18 detach from the rod. coil, so that they cannot act on the probe 39.
