Suivant l'invention, le dispositif en question est constitué par une pierre synthétique destinée à être placée au milieu du charbon dans un foyer, et qui, lorsqu'elle est portée au rouge, réchauffe l'air qui la traverse et qui se mélange ensuite.avec les gaz produits par la mise en contact du charbon et de ladite pierre, de manière à donner un gaz combustible très riche, ladite pierre comportant essentiellement : une matière réfractaire telle que du ciment réfractaire, avec éventuel- lement une matrière, telle que du gravier du Rhin, destinée à améliorer la porosité de la matière précédente ; une matière améliorant la bonne liaison des matières essentielles entre elles, ainsi que la texture de la pierre forméetelle que de la poudre de pierre ponce et/ou du silicate de soude ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
20 gr. d'un vinaigre.
20 gr. de chlorure de sodium
50 gr. d'eau.

DEVICE FOR IMPROVING THE COMBUSTION OF COAL OR SIMILAR FUELS.
The present invention relates to a device for improving the combustion of coal or similar fuels.
According to the invention, the device in question consists of a synthetic stone intended to be placed in the middle of the coal in a hearth, and which, when it is brought to red, heats the air which passes through it and which then mixes. .with the gases produced by bringing the coal into contact with said stone, so as to give a very rich combustible gas, said stone comprising essentially: a refractory material such as refractory cement, optionally with a material, such as Rhine gravel, intended to improve the porosity of the previous material; a material improving the good bond of the essential materials between them, as well as the texture of the stone formed such as pumice stone powder and / or sodium silicate;
and, finally, preferably a material facilitating or accelerating the hardening of the stone formed such as sodium chloride and / or a vinegar
The present invention also relates to the process for manufacturing such a synthetic stone. Other details and features will emerge from the description given below by way of nonlimiting example.
A typical stone formula according to the invention is established as follows:
200 gr. refractory cement.
100 gr. gravel from the Rhine.
50 gr. pumice powder
50 gr of sodium silicate
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
20 gr. of a vinegar.
20 gr. sodium chloride
50 gr. of water.
This is of course an example as to the amounts of the ingredients.
The stone is obtained by following the manufacturing process below.
Cement, Rhine gravel and sodium chloride are mixed. The chosen vinegar is added to this mixture and left to rest for 3 hours. Then the water in which the powder of pumice is mixed is added and the sodium silicate is added last.
With the dough obtained, a ball is formed which is left to dry for 24 hours in the open air. It is then hardened for 3 hours, in an oven, at a temperature of about 120 C, then this ball is baked, for one hour, at 800 C, in an oven.
The hard ball thus obtained can be placed on the grate of a fireplace. After a few minutes, it turns red and then begins to become effective. The air which passes through it is heated and then mixes with the gas produced by the contact of coal or other fuel with said ball, to form a very rich gas giving excellent combustion. It is preferable that the charcoal is wet; it can also be of very poor quality, with savings of 50 to 65%. Such a ball can have an effective duration of about 6 months.
The refractory material of the mixture constitutes the heat resistant element. Rhine gravel increases the porosity of the resulting stone so that air easily passes through it. The pumice stone powder and the sodium silicate are provided to allow a good alloy of materials and to make the stone less brittle. Finally, vinegar and sodium chloride facilitate or accelerate the hardening of materials.
It should be understood that the invention is not limited to the embodiment described but that many modifications could be made to it without departing from the scope of the present patent application.
