SIDE BUMPERS FOR MOPEDS AND MOTORCYCLES.
The present patent relates to a side bumper or leg guard intended to be fixed entirely to the frame, possibly to the frame and to the engine block, of a moped or a motorcycle to constitute an essential protection for the legs of the pilot. in the event of a fall or collision, as well as preserving the handlebars of the vehicle with its accesses. as well as the components of the engine block when the bicycle-engine or motorcycle hits the ground.
For this purpose, the side bumpers are in the form of an open frame in a U-shaped tube, optionally of cylindrical or similar shape, advantageously with branches of inhaled length, similar to equal or substantially equal length, and for example parallel to each other, optionally converging towards the outside and their free end of which is provided with a suitable attachment means to the frame, possibly to the engine block, the said branches connecting to the side or to the part forming the upright. of the frame at an angle either obtuse or acute, right, possibly directly to each other by a single fillet of curvilinear shape, for example in the form of a half-circumference, all this in relation to the arrangement and the conformity of the frame and engine of the envisaged motor vehicle.
The free ends of the branches will be provided, for example, with flanges or half-collars which, with the help of crossbars and clamping bolts, will fix the side bumpers, or leg guards, or entirely to the frame or also to a frame element and to an engine component or to one of its accessories.
The free ends of the branches of the frame may include one. half-clamp for tightening and the other a single or double tab bent at the desired angle and direction, which is then fixed by clamping bolts.
In another embodiment, two side bumpers could form a single frame of a trapezoidal-shaped part, with a rectangular limit comprising, for example, in the middle of each of the horizontal sides. parallel a recess or indentation of curvilinear shape, which can match that of the frame on either side of which a hole is drilled

allowing passage of the tightening bolt of a fixing cross member of the same shape.
In order to bring out the above description more clearly, the appended drawings represent, by way of explanation and not limitation, the application of the object of the invention to a motorcycle and various embodiments of side bumpers according to type of prime mover.
For this purpose, FIG. 1 shows a front elevational view of a motorcycle provided with side bumpers in accordance with the subject of the invention.
Fig. 2 shows the front elevational view of a side bumper, each end of the branches of which is provided with a half-collar for attachment to the frame.
Fig. 3 represents a view similar to that of FIG. 2, the end of one branch of which is provided with a half-collar and that of the other branch with a tab.
Fig. 4 shows a side bumper with two brackets for attachment to the frame.
Fig. 5 shows a side bumper, the open frame of which is rectangular in appearance.
Fig. 6 and FIG. 8 each represent a side bumper whose open frame is curvilinear in shape.
Fig. 7 shows a side bumper with branches no longer parallel but converging outwards.
Fig. 9 shows a one-piece double side bumper.
Referring to FIG. 1, 1 shows the view of the front face of a motorcycle provided on each side with a side bumper formed by the frame 2, 3, 4, fixed by its ends to the motorcycle. It will be noted that the outer sides 2 are arranged laterally along inclined planes a - b, at the limit, vertical which completely frame in transverse direction, the motorcycle with all its components, as well as the knees c shown in broken lines, of the pilot .
It is easily understood that if the motorcycle comes to lie on the ground following a fall or a collision, that this one will lie down on the ground following a - b, thus preserving the knees of the pilot and the organs of the motorcycle from the violent impact of the ground which will be received by the upright or lateral outer part 2 of the frame forming the side bumpers. ,
Figs. 2 to 9 show various embodiments of the side bumpers, in the form of the frame, of the fasteners.
In Fig. 2, the frame 2, 3, 4 has fastening ends, in the form of a half-collar 5 with holes 8 for the passage of bolts to be engaged in the same way in the crosspiece of the same shape 7.
In Fig. 3, the frame 2, 3, 4 has a branch 3 furnished with one end in the form of a half-collar and the branch 4 has a tab bent at an angle 6 with a hole for the clamping bolt. In Fig. 4, the branches 3 and 4 both have their end in the form of a tab 6.
Fig. 5 shows a rectangular frame shape.
Fig. 6 the branches 3 and 4 are connected together by a curvilinear part 3a of a half circumference while FIG; 8, it is a half circumference 6a which is connected for example to the ends 6 in the form of a tab.
In Fig. 7, the upper 3b and lower 4b branches of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
upright 2 forming the frame, converge towards the outside and thus realize an alternative embodiment in the form of the frame.
Finally in Fig. 9 shows a frame 8 of a trapezoidal shaped piece constituting both the left and right side bumpers. For this purpose, the frame 8 may for example comprise at 9 a knockout or recess in the form of a tubular element of the frame of the velometer or of the motorcycle and opposite a clamp or clamping cross member 10, by means of bolts.
Considering the description above, all the possibilities of execution of the side bumpers are easily conceived, one will preferably choose an open frame out of tube without however excluding the possibility of other profiles, for example of oval section or other appropriate to the intended purpose.
The tubes or other profiles used for the execution of the frames will be chromed, or aluminized or covered with an appropriate paint.
In summary, it is to be considered as falling within the scope of the present patent a side bumpers, or leg guards which are characterized by the following:
CLAIMS.
