Les tuyères d'air secondaire 23 sont placées axialement sur une rangée depuis l'extrémité 3 du foyer cyclone, sur la plus grande partie de la longueur de la paroi périphérique, et l'air secondaire peut être amené aux tuyères à grande vitesse et dans le même sens de tourbillonnement que celui communiqué par la tête de brûleur 17;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

IMPROVEMENTS AT CYCLONES FIREPLACES.
This invention relates to cyclone fireplaces, that is to say fireplaces of the type comprising a combustion chamber of circular or substantially circular section delimited by cooled refractory walls and which are intended to operate with an ash-content fuel journal and the air inside the chamber and the discharge of the ash in the molten state. During the operation of a cyclone furnace, difficulties are sometimes encountered arising from coke adhesions which tend to form when sticky charcoal is pressed against the wall of the combustion chamber and a goal of the combustion chamber. The invention is to eliminate or reduce this drawback. Another object is to provide a cyclone hearth having better ignition characteristics.
Yet another object is to make it possible to reduce the air pressure necessary to operate a cyclone hearth.
In a cyclone hearth having a secondary air inlet tangential or approximately tangential to the peripheral wall of the combustion chamber, according to the present invention, the fuel introduction devices intended to bring into the combustion chamber a air stream and fuel to feed the combustion in the chamber are directed so as to discharge axially towards the end of the combustion chamber opposite to the gas outlet,
The invention will be described below, by way of example, with reference to the appended drawings, in part schematic, in which:
Figs. 1, 2 and 3 are vertical sections showing different forms of the invention.
In the drawings, the cyclone hearth 1 having a peripheral wall 2 of circular cross section is formed by walls comprising vaporizing tubes 5 of a steam generator heated by the cyclone hearth. The tubes 5 are, in a known manner, provided with welded lugs intended to hold the refractory material 6 covering the tubes.
The exterior of the pipe system is covered with a layer of insulating material 7 enclosed in a sheath

metallic 8,
The chamber of the cyclone hearth which is provided with a nozzle 16 for introducing the fuel and the carrier air into the chamber and with nozzles 23 of secondary air, disposed tangentially with respect to the peripheral wall of the cyclone hearth, delivers or discharges its gases into a secondary combustion chamber 10 leading to a radiation chamber 12. The walls of the secondary combustion chamber and of the radiation chamber are suitably lined with vaporizing tubes, the tubes lining the secondary combustion chamber being provided with lugs and covered with refractory material.
In Fig. 1, the peripheral wall 2 is cylindrical in shape and the end 3 of the combustion chamber is concave, having for example the conical shape shown, while the other end of the combustion chamber is provided with an outlet neck conical gases, returning towards 1-'inside ,, 4 which forms a central outlet for the gases from the combustion chamber to the secondary combustion chamber 10. The tubes of a slag screen 11 extend across the chamber. outlet of the gases from the secondary combustion chamber to the radiation chamber 12.
The longitudinal axis of the cyclone hearth is inclined downwards, at a small angle, towards the gas discharge end of the chamber which is at the lowest point, with a slag outlet 13 for the discharge of the chamber. slag in the secondary combustion chamber 10 and from there, through a slag discharge port 14, into a water basin to which the port 14 is connected by an airtight seal. The cooling effect of the wall tubes is such that over the full range of loads for which the cyclone hearth is designed, the slag in the secondary combustion chamber as well as in the cyclone hearth chamber is in the same state. while in the radiation chamber it solidifies.
An air jacket 15, protected by the cooling tubes 5 covered with refractory material and coaxial with the cylinder hearth 1, penetrates through the rear wall into the secondary combustion chamber 10 which it passes through and ends in the neck. gas outlet 4, an annular gas outlet 9 thus being delimited between the refractory material and the gas outlet 4.
The outer end of the tube 15 is provided with a lateral air inlet through which air enters the tube, through the tube 15 from which it is spaced and to which it is coaxial, passes a duct or nozzle 16 supplying a stream of air and fuel. @
At the end of the cyclone hearth opposite to the gas outlet, there is a cylindrical burner head 17 in which a current of air and fuel can be brought tangentially through a conduitlS. Another air inlet can be made by a connection 19, tangentially and in the same direction of swirl as that of the air and fuel stream, in a pipe 20. Coaxial with the burner and the cyclone hearth,
in order to produce a suction which prevents the flame from being blown outwards when the fire is observed through a manhole door 21.
The secondary air nozzles 23 are placed axially in a row from the end 3 of the cyclone hearth, over the major part of the length of the peripheral wall, and the secondary air can be supplied to the nozzles at high speed and in the same direction of swirl as that communicated by the burner head 17;
In operation, a stream of fuel, such as for example coarsely pulverized coal down to 5 mm., And air serving as a carrier is blown into the duct 16 and additional air is sent into the tube 15 in order. prevent the coal from sticking together in the duct.
The current of fuel and air flourishes and slides along the conical end 3 of the combustion chamber towards the periphery of the chamber where it is caught in the vortex of the secondary air coming out of the combustion chamber. nozzles 23 and it is driven in a helix towards the outlet neck 4. The fuel is thus burnt and the slag forms a constantly renewed coating on the inner surface of the peripheral wall 2 of the combustion chamber. The slag plaster
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
flows and exits through the slag outlet 13 to the secondary combustion chamber 10 while the combustion gases pass through the outlet 9 to the secondary combustion chamber and thence into the radiation chamber 12.
Part of the fuel, with the air serving as a vehicle, can be supplied by the burner head: '18 and in this case the flow rate of the burner contributes to the spreading of the axial flow of air and of the projected fuel. towards the end
3 of the cyclone hearth chamber.
The fuel supplied through line 16 enters the chamber of the cyclone hearth by the longest possible free path, that is to say along the axis which may have a length of several meters. Traveling this route, even the most volatile coal loses most of its gas so that when the fuel particles reach the wall of the combustion chamber they are no longer sticky. The carrier air and the air introduced through tube 15 serve as combustion air for the gases produced in the axial stream of coal, so that a high temperature is reached and combustion of the coke is initiated.
Alternatively, a suitable device is provided for forcing the flow of air and fuel from conduit 16 to swirl in the same direction as the secondary air.
In another variant, instead of providing a burner for introducing through the end 3 of the cyclone hearth an additional swirling current of fuel and air, a device is provided for directing axially through the end 3 an additional flow of fuel and air without vortex.
In the variant shown in FIG. 2, the passage of the pipe 16 through the secondary combustion chamber is avoided. As shown, conduit 16 and tube 15 terminate in the rear wall of the secondary combustion chamber. It is necessary that the jet of air and fuel be strong enough and concentrated enough so that it reaches end 3 of the cyclone hearth. If desired, a vehicle denser than air, such as oil, can be mixed with the solid fuel.
The longitudinal axis of the cyclone hearth slopes up and down towards the secondary combustion chamber 10 at a substantial angle and the lower end of the cyclone hearth is open to provide a gas outlet 9 through which the molten slag also flows. in the secondary combustion chamber. The cylindrical upper end of the cyclone hearth chamber in which the secondary air nozzles 23 are placed extends approximately half the length of the peripheral wall of the chamber while the lower end of the hearth chamber cyclone is conical towards the gas outlet 9 in order to retain the solid fuel in the cylindrical upper end of the combustion chamber. Viewing devices are provided at 19, 20, 21 and 22 as in FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 'shows a vertical axis cyclone hearth. The upper part 29 of the combustion chamber comprising the nozzles 23 of secondary air is tapered downwards and, below the part 29, the middle part 25 is tapered downwards at a greater angle, while say that the bottom part 30 is cylindrical. The bottom of the cyclone hearth chamber is closed by a wall 33 and an air jacket 15 coaxial with part 30 extends through the wall and is protected by a cooling tube 5 covered with refractory material. . Inside the tube 15 and away from it is a conduit 16 for the discharge of a stream of air and fuel.
The part 30 at the bottom of the latter forms a gas and slag outlet 31 from which leaves tangentially, so that the gases can enter it with a minimum of turbulence of the current, a pipe 32 in the form of a pipe. re divergent leading to the secondary combustion chamber 10, the boundary between the latter and the radiation chamber 12 is marked by the edge 34 of the refractory layer covering the tubes lining the walls of the secondary combustion chamber. A slag screen 11 is placed across
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
from the gas outlet of the duct 32 and the bottom of the secondary combustion chamber is inclined towards a slag outlet 14 in the bottom of the duct.
The cyclone hearth is provided with conduits 25 and 26, several of which lead to the tangential nozzles 27 and 28 to introduce respectively an additional current of fuel and transport air and an enveloping air current in the same direction of swirling as that- printed with the secondary air introduced by the nozzles 23.
