APPAREIL D'ECLAIRAGE ET DE SIGNALISATION POUR VELOS. MOTOS, A COMMANDE
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
REVENDICATIONS.

LIGHTING AND SIGNALING DEVICE FOR BIKES. MOTORCYCLES, TO ORDER
BY HAND OR AUTOMATIC.
This device consists of two separate lanterns L and 1, one of which L is attached to the front, generally on the front fender ,,, 1? The other 1 is normally attached to the rear fendera
The drawings 1 and 2 represent the front lantern L. It is characterized by the combination in a single block, of the illuminating lamp placed in the center and two red signaling lights called position designated by f 1 and f 2, placed to the left and right of the lighting lamp.
The whole is enclosed between two stamped flanges F 1 and F 2, constituting the characteristic of the present patent fitting one into the other, along a horizontal plane A A fig. 3 drawing 1.
These flanges are held together by means of 3 rings (a 1, a 2, a 3) which serve at the same time to fix the glasses of the three lamps.
These rings are held in place by springs, bayonet-type notches or any other system.
This assembly is normally attached to the front, either on the upper part of the mudguard or at any other convenient location.
The drawing 3 shows the lantern placed at the rear, which in the present example consists of a single stamped piece which generally attaches to the rear fender or other suitable place.
It comprises a central red glass F 3, of rectangular shape or other, resting on the mudguard by means of a rubber., As well as two red signaling lights (f 3 and f 4). whose glasses are fixed by means of rings, as for the front lantern.
HAND ORDER
The front lighting lamp is switched on by means of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
via a switch preferably placed in the middle of the handlebars but. possibly being placed elsewhere.
This switch simultaneously turns on the front lighting lamp and the central rear red light F 3.
The signal lamps, both at the front and at the rear, are controlled by switches normally placed next to the handlebar grips.
The switch placed on the right controls the two signal lamps on the front and rear on the right side (f 1, F 3) and on the left side (f 2, f 4).
AUTOMATIC CONTROL.
The position lights can also be switched on automatically, by simply deflecting the front wheel if it initiates a turn.
By way of non-limiting example, the description of the apparatus below, referring to the drawings 4 and 5, provides automatic control. ':.
To this end, two contact parts are made integral with the movement of the front fork, and are connected directly to the parking lights.
The other contact piece connected to the current source is fixed above the front fork, on the upright of the frame and is made integral with it.
It is clear that a deflection of the handlebars which causes that of the fork and of the contact parts connected to the sidelamps causes them to come on at an angle which can be adjusted by the distance between the fixed contact. integral with the frame and the two other contacts connected to the two positional contacts.
This set can be achieved in different ways.
Let us quote by way of example
1) The movable contacts (2) integral with the movement of the fork may be fitted with springs which ensure and maintain contact during movement (see drawing 4)
2) The movable contacts can be constituted by two leaves forming a spring and bent in an arc of a circle, the center of which is the pivot axis of the fork and of the handlebars. When the fork moves, the slats rest on the contact part fixed to the frame and cause the sidelamps to come on (see drawing 5).
The assembly as described above with a manual or automatic switch ignition system can be powered by any source of electrical energy, dynamopile or accumulators used together or in isolation.
