PERFECTIONNEMENTS APPORTES AUX BALAIS-LAVEURS DITS "MOPS".
EMI1.1

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

EMI2.1
According to a suitable embodiment of l9â.nven-tion9 the mop comprises a tubular rod 1 formed of metal bent in the shape of a tube but leaving an interval so as to determine a longitudinal slit 2o An element 3 U-shaped is attached to the end of this rod 1 and forms an appropriate angle with the axis thereof.
The ends of the branches of the U-shaped element 3 are rolled to form ferrules 4.
These receive ,,, with pivoting9 the internal members of frames rec = tangular 5 in metal wire, a support 6, intended to receive a spur-

ge 7 of suitable length, being mounted to pivot on 1-the outer end of each frame 5. The base 3 forms a bridge connecting the frames 5.
Each
EMI2.3
support 6 consists of an element in the form of a gauge9 which has triangular side walls 6an the ends of which are provided with edges 8 facing outwardly. The lower interior ends of these supports 6 have tabs 9 which extend beyond these inner ends, so that when the sponge is extended for use ,,, these tabs are located under the base of the U-frame 3 and cooperate with it so that the supports 6 are forced to
EMI2.4
pivot inwards during their return movement after the sponge has been pulled out, the tongues 9 then slide on the side members of the Uo frame The inner ends of the supports 6 bear against the side legs of the base 3,
so that the supports occupy the separated position.
The sponge 7 is advantageously made of cellulose and has the shape of a rectangular block.
In order to allow the removable fixing of the sponge on the head of the mop, two plates 10 fixed by an adhesive on the inside face of the mop are provided.
EMI2.5
block of sponge9 these plates. ,, as well as the bottom of the block of sponge, being covered with a rectangular piece of fabric 11, also fixed using an adhesive, the plates 10 being advantageously flexible and the supports 6 being so established that the sponge blocks can be pressed lightly into the supports when the structure of the sponge meets certain conditions. The plates 10 can be attached to the sponge 7 in any other way.
A threaded rod 12 passes through each plate 10 and the corresponding swivel support
EMI2.6
laying 6s so as to apply the plates, fixed to 1éponge9 on the upper part of this support.
EMI2.7
Thanks to this construction the sponge can be replaced when it is worn out.
When the frames 5 are folded inwards they drive the supports 6 so as to fold the rubber sponge on itself and to pour out a wringing action as shown in fig 2.
EMI2.8
When the sponge rubber has not yet undergone wear9 the supports 6 a-9 rest against the rectangular frames 5 and are substantially parallel
EMI2.9
when the sponge 7 is in the wiping positiona When the rubber sponge for example or the friction element 7 becomes thinner by wear, the supports 6 have the possibility of pivoting inwards the freezes 2 so that they remain parallel ,, although the frames 5 do not remain parallel when the thickness of the sponge interposed between the supports 6 has decreased.,
The pressure which exerts the drying action is applied to the pivot supports.
EMI2.10
both 69 so that 95.ls automatically occupy a parallel wringing position. To ensure the pivoting movement, two links 13 are provided, mounted by their inner ends on a slide 14, itself mounted on the rod 1 of the handle. The outer ends 13a of these rods are bent and engage in openings provided in the bases of the pivoting supports 6, the ends of these rods being folded over the
EMI2.11
inner edges of said openings, that is to say, being angled inwardly, so as to allow free pivoting of these ends.
The inner ends of the rods 13 are articulated in a sleeve 15 supported by these ends and slidably mounted in the slot 2. The rods flex outward and pass through holes 16 (figo 7) provided in the upper corners and of the slide 14. When this slide is moved upwards along the rod 1, it is applied against the rods
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
inclined 13, which causes them to move upwards together with the slide and to rotate the supports 6 towards each other.
Once the block 7 is folded on itself, any subsequent movement of the slide results in a sliding of the latter over a small distance along the rods 13, which are thus urged towards one another so as to execute a movement of vigorous spin.
As the slide 14 moves outwardly, the supports 6 pivot until they occupy the reciprocal alignment position, in which the sponge 7 is deployed., These supports being held in this position. position by the fact that the slide is wedged on the rods, so as to produce a wedging grip. When the tubular slide is placed outwardly, said tabs 9 of the supports 6 slide on the bottom wall of the U-shaped element 3, which forces these supports to pivot outwards together with the frames 5.
The rubber squeegee is preferably removably secured within Insulation 3, the blade 17 of this squeegee shown in FIG. 8 being mounted on a support 18 which fits in Isolation 3.
