<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
restante.
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

INFLATION DEVICE.
The present invention relates to an improved form of device for inflating an inflatable fabric object. More particularly, the present invention relates to an inflation element or valve for use on any of the many and varied shapes of fabric inflatable objects including a wide variety of structural shapes such as, for example, boats, boats, inflatable objects. pontoons, buildings, shapes and other similar objects.
The inflator of the present invention is particularly well suited for inflating those of those inflatable objects which are likely to be made of two-canvas fabric.
This fabric comprises a top fabric and a bottom fabric superimposed, substantially parallel to each other and connected by numerous substantially inextensible binding threads, of predetermined length, extending between them and woven at least partially in each. canvas.
The various objects, made of this two-web fabric, are cut and formed in the same way as the conventional inflatable structure made of single fabric. When the fabric strips are shaped, the ends and edges sealed, and finally treated with a waterproof coating, the object is inflated through any suitable form of inflation tube or valve allowing fluid to be introduced under. pressure in the chamber formed by the upper and lower webs of the two-web fabric.
However, in the case of the two-web fabric, unlike the plain fabric previously used, the various fittings used must be firmly anchored in the two webs to prevent destruction of the fabric when it is finally sealed and inflated. This is due to the fact that when cutting an opening in a canvas of a two-canvas fabric, for example to insert a valve, the binding threads in the area immediately adjacent to the cutout are no longer fixed in the canvas.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
remaining. Excessive stress is thus placed on the other binding threads in the tissue adjacent to the removed portion, when the object is sealed and inflated.
The inflator of the present invention has been developed for the express purpose of providing positive reinforcement in the area where fluid is admitted into the fabric article and to prevent tearing of the two-web fabric. It is extremely advantageous in that it allows the distribution of the tensions created in the two-canvas fabric by the swelling of the article and thus avoids tears caused by the breakage or release of the binding threads. not fixed in the canvas.
The main object of the present invention is to provide an inflator which is particularly suitable for inflatable objects made of twin-web fabric.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved form of inflation device suitable for use with articles made of twin-web fabric to prevent the fabric from loosening in the part where the inflation device is placed.
Other characteristics and advantages of the present invention will emerge from the description of an inflation device according to the invention.
In the drawings: Figure 1 shows a partial plan view of a two-canvas fabric article with an inflation device according to the invention; Figure 2 is a vertical cross section, taken substantially along line 2-2 of Figure 1, showing parts in elevation and partially broken away, and Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional detail on a larger scale of part of the duct of the inflation device.
Reference 1 in Figures 1 and 2 generally designates the inflation device of the present invention. One of the main parts of the inflation device 1 is an inflation element or valve 2 having a threaded end 3 accommodating a conventional valve core 4 inside its bore 5. The valve 2 has a rubber rod 6 and a flange. 7 integral with the valve. It will readily be understood that any conventional form of valve stem, whether it is all rubber or all metal, may be suitable for carrying out the present invention, that shown here being given for illustrative purposes only.
The valve 2 and its rim 7 integral with it are placed in an opening 8 in the object or part of the inflatable fabric object 9.
This comprises an upper canvas 11 placed vis-à-vis a lower canvas 12 and attached thereto by numerous binding threads 13. These threads 13 have a predetermined length and they are practically inextensible. ; therefore, the spacing between the upper canvas 11 and the lower canvas 12 is predetermined when the inflatable canvas object 9 is satisfactorily sealed and inflated.
The outer surfaces of the upper canvas 11 and the lower canvas 12 are covered with a suitable impermeable coating, for example a thin layer of rubber or the like. It is clear that when the inflatable fabric object 9 is sealed and inflated, the upper canvas 11 and the lower canvas 12 occupy the relative positions shown in Fig. 2. When the inflatable fabric object is empty of inflating fluid. , the upper canvas 11 usually comes to rest on the lower canvas 12, which makes it possible to easily flatten the object.
The opening 8 in the inflatable fabric object 9 is delimited
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
by a fabric sleeve 10 having the general shape of a tube and constituting a conduit. This duct 10 may have any suitable shape, having a circular, square or rectangular cross section.
The duct 10 serves as a suitable reinforcement for the opening 8 to maintain the upper fabric 11 and the lower fabric 12 at the spacing predetermined by the length of the connecting threads 13.
The conduit 10 is preferably cylindrical for ease of construction. As shown in Figure 3 of the drawing, a single piece of fabric 14 forms a cylindrical sleeve 10 and its ends are superimposed to form the seam 15 which is glued. Inner 16 and outer 17 reinforcing bands serve to protect and reinforce the seal 15.
The endless piece of fabric 14 forming the sleeve 10 is provided with a flange 18 formed by rolling up the end of the fabric 14 and slitting it to form a series of tabs 19 which are folded over the top fabric 11, over which they are secured with a suitable adhesive. The opposite end of the piece of endless fabric 14 forming the sleeve 10 is treated in the same manner to constitute the flange 20 having a series of tabs 21 corresponding generally to the different tabs 19 formed in the flange. the flange 18 which has just been described. As before, the different tabs 21 are glued to the lower canvas 12 of the inflatable fabric object 9.
In order to satisfactorily anchor the flange 18 of the sleeve 10, an annular reinforcing element is used, cut from a piece of flat fabric. The reinforcement 22 is intended to completely cover the various tabs 19 of the flange 18 by means of them. protruding so as to be able to be fixed on the upper canvas 11 of the inflatable fabric object 9.
A similar reinforcement 23 is applied to the various tabs 21 of the rim 20 to hold them in place on the lower canvas of the fabric object 9 and a circular piece of fabric 25 covers the whole.
The flange 7 of the valve 2 is fixed in place on the reinforcement 22, so that its bore 5 is coaxial with the sleeve 10. A part 24 of annular shape is cut from a piece of flat fabric so as to encircle the base of the sleeve. stem 6 of valve 2. Part 24 is intended to cover the upper surface of flange 7 of valve 2, and to extend beyond. The part 24 can therefore be glued to the upper canvas 11 of the inflatable fabric object 9, as shown in Figure 2.
In order that the pressurized fluid introduced through the bore 5 of the valve 2 of the inflator 1 can be distributed throughout the interior chamber 26 of the inflatable fabric object 9, a number of openings 27 are made in the canvas 14 forming the sleeve 10. It will be noted that the inflation device 1 comprising the valve 2 and the sleeve 10 constitutes an extremely advantageous means of introducing the inflation fluid under pressure into the chamber 26 of the inflatable fabric object. 9 and that at the same time it constitutes a reinforcement for the opening 8.
In addition, the inflator 1 is flexible enough not to interfere with the flattening of the inflatable fabric object, which is essential for the various objects mentioned above.
Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiment and to the details of embodiment which have been described and shown by way of example, and it would not go beyond its scope to do so. making changes.
