<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

RIGID JOINT FOR METAL SUPPORT OF MINING GALLERIES.
The invention relates to the support by metal reinforcements, in particular to the polygonal support of mine advancement galleries, cross-beds, etc., etc. For this purpose thanks to the latest advances in technology. The support by segments which have the property of being able to yield is always used more and more, in which the necessary property of the support to be able to yield is transferred to the sides of the polygon themselves, preferably with the aid of a construction of one or more of the sides of the polygon in two parts which can telescopically slide into one another and interconnected by a friction lock.
The "rigid" joints of known type (ie rigidly limited-motion), commonly used in polygonal support and which consist of two members which roll on one side. others are less suitable for polygonal support of the type whose sides have the ability to yield. The locking, used in the embodiments of known joints, of the joint against axial displacement with respect to one another of the parts which compose it, with the aid of protrusions and cavities which cooperate with each other and which are provided on the surfaces rolling one upon the other., is insufficient even if it is supplemented by lateral beads, to prevent,
both in the event of a jerky approximation of the sections, as happens in this type of support. ,, as well as in the event of considerable cracks in the axial direction of the galleries, a detachment of the joint elements, unhooking which can., if the sides of the polygon continue to give in jerks, reach a point such that the connection ends up being destroyed.
The purpose of the invention is precisely to eliminate this drawback.
The invention is based on the already known rigid articulations, the two parts of which have curved surfaces, respectively concave and convex, which roll one moon on another. The invention consists of
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
that, on either side of the rolling surfaces of the hollow element of the articulation, the flanges provided on this element are connected, at least to the upper part of the articulation, by a cross member which forms with the aforementioned flanges, a cup in which, when the articulation pivots to the position where it forms an obtuse angle having the maximum opening, bears the upper face of the protruding end of the other element of the joint.
On the opposite (lower) side, the flanges are also connected by a bridge., Which here extends in a direction approximately radial to the running surface and which, in the case of pivoting in the opposite direction (in the sense that the joint forms an acute angle) of the elements of the joint. \) forms a stop for the lower end face of the joint protruding in isolation.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the lateral flanges are curved in an arc of a circle and are braced on their side in the guide cavities, of corresponding shape, formed in the lateral faces of the projecting element of articulation; in this case, it is advantageous to further strengthen the construction by giving these flanges as well as the cavities which receive them a slightly wedge-shaped profile, seen in cross section.
This gives an articulation completely protected against any unhooking which may result from forces applied axially or from a jerky telescopic movement of the additional segments, as soon as the elements of the articulation rolling over one another in one direction. either the upper end face or the lower end face of the joint protruding from the joint abuts respectively against the upper cross member and against the lower transverse connecting piece of the joints. flanges, which is a desirable high strength preventing the joint from bending further.
It is particularly advantageous to apply the invention to the articulation known per se, having a V-groove, in which the surfaces which roll over one another are profiled with a wedge shape inward, with the aim of ensuring the irreproachable guidance one in the other.
Other characteristics and details of the invention will emerge from the following description relating to a preferred embodiment of the new articulation., Which can be used both as a made articulation and as an assembly connection, 1 Example shown in the drawing being of the V-groove type.
In the drawing: - Figure 1 is a side view. \) In partial section taken along line C-D in Figure 4, showing the articulated connection in the normal articulation position; FIG. 2 shows 19 articulation in a much more open position of the polygonal segments which it connects (extreme obtuse position); and - Figure 3 shows the articulation in the maximum closed position of the polygonal segments (extreme acute position); and - Figure 4 is a section through the joint on line A-B of Figure 1.
As is apparent from the drawing, on the ends of sides a and b of the polygon which must be joined together and of which one a is constituted by a U-section and the other b by an I-section, according to l 'example shown, are mounted, using clips e. and f, the bodies which constitute the joint proper, namely the body which forms the hollow part and the body d which forms the protruding part of the joint.
FIG. 4 shows more clearly the arrangement, known per se, with a V-groove, of the surfaces which roll on one another, according to the exemplary embodiment shown. On either side of the running surfaces, the body ± has curved flanges in the form of an arc of a circle .. making a large projection, which engage in lateral cavities, of cor-
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
responders provided for in the body d. As can be seen at hs, these flanges have a wedge-shaped profile and the side faces of the protruding part have a corresponding inclination.
A crossmember 3, the front edge of which decreases in thickness corresponding to the radius of curvature of the flanges g, connects them to one another so as to form a kind of pocket in which, as and when measurement that the joint bends as shown in figure 2, the extended end k in the form of a nose, of the protruding part is lodged by taking support to finally come through an end face 1, bear on the crosspiece ± the arrangement being such that at this time, as a result of the bearing of the two lateral faces of the aforementioned noses on the facing faces of the cross member i and of the running surface, a locking effect is obtained.
Below, the flanges are joined by a base plate o which, following the example of embodiments, protrudes by a heel on the profile of segment a of polygon and against which is braced the lower end g of the protrusion d during the pivoting movement of the elements of the joint in the extreme acute position.
For this last bracing action to take place it is important that the surfaces limiting the extreme closed position, that is to say the part o connecting the flanges g and the face of the protruding part 2 possibly coming to take bearing against this part o, does not quite form a right angle to the segment or side a but rather an acute angle which is intended to prevent that, as a result of the pressure exerted by the internal edge r from the terminal part o, the protruding part of the joint comes out of its housing.
According to an additional characteristic of the invention, it is possible to provide, above and below the projecting part d, protrusions in the form of tabs: upper tab = during the pivoting in the obtuse position ,, slides on the cross member 1 , so that the latter is enclosed, to a certain extent between the extension k of the projecting part d and the tongue m, which has the effect of producing an additional bracing. The leading effect is obtained in the reverse position (extremely acute position) by the cooperation of the tongue n with the heel p on which the tongue n slides and rests.
The new articulation can be used for all desired forms of polygonal supports whose sides have the ability to yield., As well as in two-sided supports provided that at least one of the sides is formed. so as to be able to yield.
Of course, the embodiment of the new joint described in detail above, in particular the application of the principle of the invention to the V-groove joint, constitutes only one example and of many names. Many modifications can be made to it, without departing either from the scope or the spirit of the invention.
Preferably, the new articulation for the construction of mine tunnel supports with yieldable elements will be used with U-shaped sections; nevertheless its application is also possible with other shapes of profiles by adaptation to the shape of the profile.
