CASIER PLIANT

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

FOLDING LOCKER
The present invention relates to a folding box characterized on the one hand in that it can be folded so as to occupy the smallest possible volume and on the other hand, in that it is provided with members allowing the unfolded state, its assembly by superposition and / or juxtaposition with one or more identical lockers in order to form furniture of all kinds.
This rack also has the advantage, while being articulated, of being rigid and the assembly with identical boxes is provided in such a way as to produce an integral assembly.
In principle, the locker, object of the invention, comprises a shelf, to which two uprights are articulated; the rotation of these uprights is limited, on the one hand, by their folding under the shelf, on the other hand, by struts which hold them in the vertical plane.
Organs, such as holes provided on the upper face of the shelf, cooperate with studs provided under the end face of the uprights, so that a stack of lockers can be superimposed to make a filing cabinet.
If it is desired to assemble several stacks of racks, a suitable device has been provided such that the assembly takes place without any play.
It is also possible to assemble two lockers by interposing between them an extension shelf, with a view to forming an integral unit, such as a file cabinet.
The subject of the invention is also the assembly members of this shelf with the rack, whether these means are independent or whether they are provided on the shelf.

In the accompanying drawing, there is shown, by way of non-limiting example, an embodiment of the rack and of the various accessories.
FIG. 1 shows in perspective a folded rack, resting on the shelf.
Figure 2 shows, in perspective, the same but-unfolded rack.
FIG. 3 shows, in perspective, an assembly of lockers forming a filing cabinet and an isolated locker.
FIG. 4 represents, in schematic elevation, an assembly consisting of two stacks of articulated elements joined by extension shelves.
FIG. 5 represents, on a greatly enlarged scale, the vertical section of an assembly.
FIG. 6 represents, in perspective and on a larger scale, an assembly cleat.
Figure 7 shows, also in perspective and on a larger scale, a second embodiment of an assembly cleat.
FIG. 8 shows, in perspective, a tablet comprising assembly members.
FIG. 9 represents, in perspective, another form of embodiment of an assembly member.
In-Figures 1 and 2, the locker is turned upside down so as to show the main components and characteristics that it comprises.
Each rack is constituted by a shelf 1, preferably rectangular, in bowls, cardboard, metal, plastic or other material, at each of the two longitudinal ends of which is articulated, for example by means of hinges 2, in appropriate number, an amount 3. In the folded position of the locker, the uprights 3 rest against the inner face of the shelf 1, while in the unfolded position (that is to say of use) of the locker, the uprights 3 are arranged vertically. and below the horizontal shelf 1 (figure 3). These uprights and the shelf 1 are maintained in the position of use by means of the struts 4, pivoting at 5 on the upright 3 and fixed at 6 on the shelf 1 by an appropriate device, such as a notch 7 cooperating with a screw 8 fixed in one of the edges of the shelf 1.
Tightening the screw 8 to the bottom allows the locker to be fixed in its position of use, while a slight unscrewing allows the notch 7 to be released for folding the box, as shown in Figure 1.
Each of the compartments carries on the upper face of the shelf 1, holes 9 which are visible in FIG. 3 and in which the studs 10 provided on the lower edge of the uprights 3 engage. (These studs are located at the top on the figures 1 and 2 in which the lockers are upside down to show their organs).
A support 11 has on its upper face two series of two holes (not visible in the drawing) in which the studs 10 of the first compartment engage. In the holes 9 provided on the upper face of the first shelf 1, the studs 10 of a second shelf 1 and so on are engaged to form a binder formed by the superposition of a stack of lockers. .
If one wishes to produce a binder consisting of several stacks of juxtaposed racks, the racks of each stack are assembled with those of the neighboring stack, for example, by means of strips 12 comprising two series of holes 13 whose diameter allows the passage of the stud 10. These holes are arranged at such distances that when they are engaged on the studs of a locker and those of the juxtaposed lockers, the binder thus formed constitutes a rigid assembly having no play between the different lockers.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The assembly of the shelf with its uprights could be carried out by any appropriate means, provided that it makes it possible to provide., - in each compartment, members intended to assemble this compartment with the juxtaposed or immediately upper or lower compartment.
In the case where an extension shelf 14 is used, the assembly of the two compartments is obtained, as can be seen in more detail in FIG. 5, by means of two assembly tabs 15; having the form of rectangular plates, on each of which are symmetrically mounted two studs 16a, 16b, as can be seen in perspective in Figure 3.
The assembly is presented in the following form:
One of the halves of the stopper 15 can be housed, on the underside of the shelf 1, in a recess 17a, provided to also accommodate the plate 2a of the hinge 2.
The other half of the cleat 15 is cantilevered and is housed in a recess 17b made on the underside of the shelf 14 that it supports. The assembly of the locker 1, 3 and the shelf 14 is obtained by the stopper 15 whose studs 16a and 16b penetrate respectively into the perforations 9 of the shelf 1 and 18 of the shelf 14.
To form a binder, the procedure is as follows: at the time of assembly, it suffices to place the cleat 15, by a pin 16, under the shelf 1, before folding the mobile upright 3 of the rack to the square.
In Figure 7, the assembly cleat 25 carries a stud 26a and 26b on each side. In this case, it would be necessary to provide a corresponding accommodation in amount 3.
In Figure 8, there is schematically shown in perspective, an extension shelf can be assembled directly, without the intermediary of cleats or similar members, to a rack. For this purpose, the shelf 14 is provided with tenons 24a, for example dovetailed, which cooperate with mortises 24b of corresponding shape, provided in the shelf 1.
In FIG. 9, in order to achieve a double-depth binder, slats 27 are provided, the length of which is double that of the slats 12.
The advantage obtained by the extension-shelf consists in that, in an assembly forming a piece of furniture, half of the articulated elements are saved, since one successively alternates an articulated element and an extension-table supported laterally by the cleats which cooperate with neighboring amounts.
It is obvious that certain alternative embodiments can be made to the embodiment which has just been described without departing from the scope of the invention.
