Abstract

The composite furniture has horizontal shelves (1) in which are two parallel rows of holes (8), regularly spaced. The furniture comprises chests (2-5) which can be closed or open and which have outside perforations (11) on the top and sides. The units are assembled by pins inserted through adjacent holes. Shelves may be placed (12,13) between two adjacent chests via support pegs fitting into the side holes (11). Vertical partitions (7) can divide the insides of the chests.

Description

Furniture of the genre in question is usually made in two main ways. In the first method, boxes are used which are stacked, possibly covering them with a tray. In a second method, vertical panels are used provided with perforations or blocking systems which can hold monobloc chests or panels at the various desired levels.

The first formula which is simple to implement has the disadvantage of constituting very compact assemblies which are heavy and unsightly.

The second assembly described above involves the use of complex assembly systems which add to the cost price and make assembly difficult.

-The improvements which are the subject of the present invention are intended to remedy these drawbacks and to allow the production of a composite piece of furniture whose assembly is very simple so that it can be implemented directly by the user while allowing the realization of various compact or very acre combinations.

The piece of furniture according to the invention is composed of horizontal trays perforated on either side in a regular manner, between which are placed chests which themselves have corresponding external perforations at their base and at their top as well as other perforations on their lateral faces. The positioning of the safes relative to the trays is carried out using studs partially engaged in the perforations of the trays and safes.

The accompanying drawing, given by way of example, will make it possible to better understand the invention, the characteristics which it presents and the advantages which it is likely to provide.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing a piece of furniture produced in accordance with the invention.

1. Fig. 2 is an exploded perspective view on a larger scale of a part of the cabinet illustrated in FIG. 1.

The cabinet shown in fig. 1 according to the invention comprises horizontal trays 1, between which are disposed boxes of different heights such as those 2, 3 and 4, and a box 5 of width twice that of the other three but whose height is equal to that of trunk 3. It is observed that on the lower plate there are three boxes 2, two of which are closed and one open, the first two containing two drawers 6. On these three boxes 2 there is a second plate l. On the safes 3 a third tray 1 has been placed which supports two safes 4 and a partition 7, a fourth tray 1 being placed on these three elements.

The two faces of each plate 2 are provided with two parallel rows of perforations 8 distributed regularly over the entire length, the rows in question being parallel to the long sides of the plates. As illustrated in fig. 2, the base of each chest 3, 4, 5 and its top are provided with two rows of perforations 9, the pitch and spacing of which correspond to those of the perforations 8 of the plates 1. Thus by engaging a stud 10 partially in the perforations 8 and partially in those 9 of the chests it is possible to fix the latter with respect to the plate considered. The tray placed on the trunk in question is rigorously immobilized in the same way, that is to say by means of studs 10 partially engaging in the perforations 8, partially in those 9 above the trunk.

It is thus possible to stack boxes and trays, the boxes being of different widths and their spacing varying according to the wishes of the user.

The lateral faces of the boxes are also provided with holes 11 arranged in two rows parallel to the vertical edges of said faces and the pitch of which is determined in any way. This pitch is advantageously chosen equal or multiple of 32 mm since this dimension corresponds to the standardized spacing of the corresponding carpentry machines. Thanks to the holes 11, it is then possible to place between two consecutive chests of the spokes 12 or 13 (fig. 1) retained by means of usual cleats 14 whose cylindrical body is engaged in the holes 11. Of course the spokes 12 and 13 are length adapted to the spacing of two consecutive boxes.

It is also possible to provide for replacing any box by the simple partition 7 placed either at the end, or in an intermediate manner over the length of the piece of furniture obtained. The partition 7 illustrated in fig. 1 is placed at the end of the furniture represents in order to support a radius 15. tA again this partition 6 has on its two lower and upper edges perforations which come in correspondence with those of the trays 1 so that its immobilization with respect to the latter is carried out in the same way as that of the safes. Its two lateral faces have two vertical rows of holes 16, the pitch of which is identical to that of the holes 11.

The spoke 15 is supported by tabs 14, not shown, which engage on the one hand in the holes 16 of the partition 7 and on the other hand in those 11 of the neighboring trunk 4.

Of course the boxes can be opened or closed so as to constitute either a small independent cabinet or a niche.

As illustrated in fig. 1 a chest 3 can be placed at the end of a composite piece of furniture by having its door 3a disposed on the side of said piece of furniture. This arrangement is advantageous but it is obviously not compulsory within the framework of the invention. It is observed that the trunk 5 has a width twice that of the others, but of course it could include any width provided that its base and its top have a sufficient number of perforations 9 suitable for allowing it to be fixed to two trays 1.

According to a preferred embodiment of the arrangement which precedes all the boxes produced have three heights and two different widths. As for the shelves, we can build a stock comprising lots of three or four different lengths likely to meet the needs of users.

Finally, it is observed that, thanks to the perforations 8 on the face facing downwards from the lower plate, it is possible to fix feet 17 using studs 10.

It should be noted that the distance separating the rows of holes 11 provided on the lateral faces of the boxes is advantageously equal to the spacing of the perforations 8 of the plates to facilitate the drilling of the boxes. These can also be made preferably by folding a single-panel notch for this purpose.

We thus produced a composite assembly or piece of furniture constituted by simple superposition of alternating chests with horizontal plates, the spacing of these chests being of precise dimension so as to be able to have shelves between them.

It should moreover be understood that the above description has been given only by way of example and that it in no way limits the field of the invention from which one would not depart by replacing the execution details described by all other equivalents.
