PERFECTIONNEMENTS AUX PRESSES OU MACHINES A CUBER POUR ALIMENTS
COMPOSES.

a pressero
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

IMPROVEMENTS IN PRESSES OR CUBING MACHINES FOR FOODS
COMPOUNDS.
There are different types of presses for compound feed in which the elements are compressed, then ejected in the form of cubes. In this type of press, machines are known using a conveyor screw feeding a circular die, nut machines with rotating rollers to alveoli and eccentric roller machines rotating inside a die ring. Presses have also been proposed comprising rolling rollers on a die plate, or rollers mounted in a support fixed within a rotating die ring. In more recent constructions, the rotating rollers have been replaced by a cam or they are associated with a cam.
All these machines have the disadvantage of insufficient balancing. It should in fact be noted that ,, in presses of this kind, the bearings and shafts must, in whole or in part, resist the compressive forces which. \) 'In certain cases are very important and which come either from 'an irregular distribution of the products to be pressed. \) either of an inhomogeneous composition, or of the presence of hard bodies, or even of varying reactions in force and direction.
In the press or cubing machine which is the object of the present invention, it has been achieved to self-balance all the reactions due to the compression. In this stop, the pressure members are carried by a floating shaft with free oscillations. By using a group of three rollers in this way, a "triangulated" system is produced, which is automatically centered and self - balanced by the matrix ring.
As a result of the absence of a bearing in the compression zone, the carrier shaft will be released from the forces due to the compression and it will only serve to transmit the rotational movement to the pressing unit. In addition, the carrier shaft constituting a floating shaft with free oscillations must no longer respond to irregular bending forces due to the reactions of the compression of the products.
In addition, the compressive forces are better distributed around the periphery of the matrix ring. Finally, the tri-angulated pressure group can move freely under irregular layers of the products.

press
The invention is obviously not limited to the use of three rollers because the triangulated system can include a greater number of rollers, which will make it even better balanced. On the other hand, the floating tree can be combined with the matrix ring in different ways.
Thus, a rotating floating shaft can be combined with a fixed die ring., A fixed oscillating shaft with a rotating die ring and a floating shaft rotating at differential rotations with a die ring. ': Rotating
The invention further comprises, in combination with a press according to the invention, a static breaker device, of very simple construction and operation.
The drawing appended to this specification shows, by way of example only a press according to the invention of the type in which the pressure members are carried by a floating shaft rotating in a fixed die ring. 9 equipped with a device. static cube breaker. In this drawings
Fig. 1 is a sectional elevation through the machine, of which FIG. 2 is a section through the machine at the upper level of the die ring with a partial section in a lower plane showing a variation in construction.
In the embodiment shown in the drawing, the cube press essentially comprises a cylindrical casing 1 forming at its upper part a profiled bush 2 to receive a ball joint 3 traversed centrally by a vertical shaft 4, fixed in an appropriate manner to this. last.
Externally to the casing 1, the shaft 4 carries a control device intended to impart to it an appropriate rotational movement, ie in the present case a toothed wheel 5 engaged with a second wheel 6. IL inside the casing. envelope 1, the shaft 4 has a frustoconical profile 7 associated with bosses 8. On the underside of the truncated cone of the shaft 4 are freely carried by vertical axes 9 'of the rollers 9, three in this case (fig. 2). These rollers are capable of rotating in a fixed die ring 10 forming a base for the casing 1.
The rollers are separated from each other by adjustable plates, specially combined Il.11 which locate the products to be pressed towards the die ring 10. By adjusting these plates, for example by means of oval grooves 12 and fixing bolts 13, the product inlet chamber is reduced or increased depending on the nature and composition of the product to be pressed.
In the present case, the matrix ring 10 comprises two stages of die passages 14, of dimensions corresponding to those of the cube to be obtained. The number of stages can be increased if more production is desired.
Under the provided rotary impulse, the shaft receives in the casing 1 a rotational movement, which is accompanied, as regards the rollers 9, by a rotating movement caused by their pressure on the introduced material. in envelope 1.
This material, compressed therein, is then forced towards the radial passages 14 of the die, from where it escapes in the form of a rod of various shapes.
As has been said previously, the shaft 4, thanks to its floating construction, is no longer subjected to compressive forces and the pressure group is automatically centered and balanced by the matrix ring 10.
In the embodiment shown, to the die ring 10 is horizontally fixed a sheet metal disc 15 supporting to. its lower part of the small vertical rectilinear planes 16. These are arranged
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
each at a certain inclination in front of the superimposed die passages 14 of the ring 10, which in some cases as shown in FIG. 1 and on the left in FIG. 2, are each extended by a nozzle 17 or else ,, as shown in section on the right in fig. 2, formed in the mass 10 'on a well-defined outside diameter. The internal edge of the planes 16 always starts from this external diameter.
Under these conditions, the plugs of material coming out of the passages 12 come to meet the said vertical planes 14 and are consequently cut into cubes.
The inclination of the vertical planes 14 can be made variable by any appropriate means with respect to the direction of exit of the treated product. In addition, the actual length of the plugs can be adjusted by means of screws 18 passing through bushes 19 integral with the disc. 15 and abutting on either side of a projection 20 carried by Panel 10.
By rotating the disc 13 a little, the straight planes 14 are brought closer or further away from the end of the passages 12 of the pressure panel 10.
As has been said, the floating group formed by the vertical shaft 4 and the rollers 9, instead of being subjected to a movement of rotation, can be fixed., While the matrix ring 10 will be mobile, just like the floating group and ring 10 could both be rotatable.
