PROCEDE ET DISPOSITIF POUR LA FABRICATION DE PLOMBS ET CHEVROTINES METALLIQUES. -DEVANT ETRE UTILISES PARTICULIEREMENT.DANS-LES FUSILS
DE CHASSE. ' "
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
En se référant à la figure 1, sur la base commune 1 est dispo- sé le bâti 2 d'un premier laminoir composé de deux cylindres fous 3 et 4; les axes du second cylindre sont coulissants verticalement dans le bâti 2 et leur position en hauteur est réglable au moyen des vis 50 Entre les deux cy- lindres passe le fil 6 qui est laminé en forme de ruban 7;
Ce deuxième laminoir,monté lui aussi sur la base 1 par l'in- termédiaire du bâti 9, se compose de deux cylindres 10-et 11 munis de cavi- tés à peu près semi-sphériques 12 en nombre égal et disposées de manière égale sur les faces des deux cylindres;

METHOD AND DEVICE FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF METAL LEADS AND CHEVROTINES. - TO BE SPECIFICALLY USED IN SHOTGUNS
OF HUNTING. '"
A recent process for the manufacture of lead and buckshot or metal spheres particularly intended for use in hunting rifles consists in a process of stamping and severing the shot from the metal wire (for example more or less hardened lead. )
This process (Italian patent? 420.101) provides a better product than that which could be obtained with the old draining process (which inevitably gave rise to defects in the spherical shape, defects in internal structure and a lack of selection of measures, etc.)
and consists essentially in stamping by rolling pairs of semi-spheres (perfectly opposite each other and slightly incomplete) in wires or lead tapes with an alloy (or other) so that the incomplete stamping leaves a bond formed by a tape residual intermediate, continuous, thin, from which, in a subsequent cutting operation, the weights are detached.
However, when with this process it is desired to produce metal spheres of small diameter, it is necessary to start from a fine wire, having a diameter approximately equal to the diameter of the sphere that is to be produced, in order to avoid excessive loss of material o Small diameter wire is much more expensive, at equal weight, than larger wire, and, especially when dealing with relatively soft metals, such as lead alloys, it is quite difficult to handle and breaks with great ease,
The process according to the present invention aims to eliminate this difficulty by producing pellets of small diameter starting from a wire having a diameter much greater than that of the pellets that it is desired to obtain.
According to the method, forming the object of the present invention,
the starting wire is rolled to obtain a ribbon which is then rolled into a ribbon thinner than the previous one and having a series of pairs of protrusions
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
opposite lees forming part of the same sphere; this tape is then drawn between a pair of rollers fitted with punches which detach the spheres from the tape itself.
In this way it is possible to obtain this second tape in a sufficiently thin thickness and a considerable and uniform width so as to be able to form, on it, a considerable number of semi-spherical projections intended to constitute the weights, and this with a relatively small loss of material and starting from a wire of relatively large diameter with the result of reducing the cost price of the pellets of small diameter to the same degree as that of the pellets of larger diameter.
An embodiment of the aforementioned method is shown in the accompanying drawings in which
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a device operating according to the. present, -invention.
Figure 2 is a cross section of the first rolling mill of Figure 1.
Referring to Figure 1, on the common base 1 is arranged the frame 2 of a first rolling mill composed of two idle rolls 3 and 4; the axes of the second cylinder slide vertically in the frame 2 and their height position is adjustable by means of screws 50. Between the two cylinders passes the wire 6 which is rolled in the form of a ribbon 7;
this tape passes successively through the guide piece 8, also mounted on the base 1 in order to transport it exactly to the second rolling mill which also has the task of exerting on the tape 7 the necessary traction to do so. pass through cylinders 3 and 4 and guide piece 80
This second rolling mill, also mounted on the base 1 by the intermediary of the frame 9, consists of two rolls 10 and 11 provided with approximately semi-spherical cavities 12 in equal number and arranged equally. on the faces of the two cylinders;
the cylinder 10 also carries a series of cavities 13, of shape corresponding to that ± 1-an-equal number of projections 14 placed on the cylinder 11, the latter arrangement having the aim of obtaining a precise bearing, without sliding, of the two cylinders 10 and 11 one on top of the other.
The strip 7, passing through this second rolling mill, is reduced to a very thin strip 15 provided with opposed projections 16 which are approximately semi-spherical. This strip 15 is driven by another pair of rollers 17 and 18 mounted on the frame 19. and it is also carried by the common base 1.
The cylinders 17 and 18 respectively comprise similar cavities and projections 13 and 14, intended to exactly equalize the peripheral speed.
The cylinder 17 is, moreover, provided with punches 20 which, by penetrating at the opportune moment into the openings 21, made in the cylinder 18, as described in the above-mentioned Italian Patent No. 420.101, detach the spherical bodies from band 15 so that they can be discharged outside the apparatus.
A chain 22 winding on the toothed wheels 23 and 24, which are mounted on the axes of the rollers 10 and 18, ensure the synchronism of the movement of the last two pairs of cylinders.
The end parts of the two cylinders 3 and 4 of the first roller may be frustoconical in order to easily introduce the starting wire; wire is then introduced freely between said frustoconical ends and then guided towards the middle part of the rolls, where it flattens out, thus eliminating the need for other appropriate operations, at the start of machining.
