telle qu-lelle dirige 1?air vers 19intérieur en dessous du ratelier 4, à 1?e±èt d'empêcher 19accumulation de filasses ou étoupes sur la face infé- rieure du râtelier;

A typical mobile cleaning device and an arrangement of the kind described above are the subject of United States Patents issued to Mr. William B. HODGE: No. 2.047558 of July 14, 1936, No. 2,128,207 of August 23, 1938 and No. 2,184 880 of December 26, 1939, and hence need not be illustrated and described in detail, since the present invention relates only to improvements to the mechanisms used to direct the jets of air delivered by the fan.
In conventional mobile cleaning devices of the type described above, the end of each air duct which starts from the fan casing is provided with two sleeves or nozzles, preferably adjustable, one of which is directs the air stream down the side or sidewall of the underlying machine, and the other directs the air stream across the machine.
Each sleeve or fitting usually terminates above the top of the machine and does not function effectively to prevent, in a satisfactory manner, the deposition or accumulation of tows, tows and the like on rigid parts of the machine. the machine which are not located in the direct paths of the air jets, or on the mechanisms intended for the treated materials, placed immediately below.
For example, in the application of the mobile cleaning device for the suitability of a spinning machine frame, the air jets are not entirely effective in preventing the accumulation of tows and the like on the underside of the machine. spindle rack and on the coils placed immediately below, as well as the deposit or accumulation of strands of tow on the wicks or wires unwinding from said coils.
An object of 1-'invention is-to provide a mobile cleaning device of the type described, comprising a nozzle suitable for directing in a more efficient manner the air stream which is projected transversely to the machines, at a predetermined height, in thereby effectively preventing the accumulation of tows, tows, etc. on the fixed parts of the machine and on the material worked by it.
Another object of the invention is to provide one or more highly flexible nozzles, in particular that intended to conduct the air current transversely to the machine which are capable of yielding when an obstacle is encountered. in their journey, such as when an operator is present in the corridor between neighboring groups of machines, thus preventing the operator from being accidentally affected.
These objects as well as other objects and features of the invention will emerge more fully from the description which follows and from the accompanying drawings, and will be more especially defined in the claims.
An illustrative embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawings, in its application to the cleaning of a textile machine.
In the drawings
Fig. 1 shows an end elevation of a spinning machine and a track mounted thereon and supporting a movable cleaning device; this figure illustrates the present invention as embodied in the cleaning device for directing an air stream across the machine at a predetermined height.
Fig. 2 is a detail view, on an enlarged scale, partially in vertical and cross section, which shows in elevation a preferred form or arrangement of flexible nozzle for directing the jet of air transverse to the machine;
Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken along line 3-3 of FIG. 2; and;
Fig. 4 is a schematic plan view of a group of parallel sets of aligned machines, with an endless track extending lengthwise.

above the machines and a movable cleaning device mounted on this track as well as a corridor between aligned groups of machines.
The spinning machine is of the usual type comprising end frames 1 provided with pillars 2 attached thereto which support the usual racks 3 and 4 with spools of wire or wick 5 between the, and columns
EMI3.1
6 extending upwardly above the pillars 2 and supporting a track 7 which, as described above extends along the length of a plurality or aligned series of spinning machines or spinning machines. A carriage 8 which has wheels 9 resting on parallel angles 10 extending along the length and forming part of the track is actuated by a motor.
A fan 11, preferably horizontal. is mounted on a vertical shaft extending upwards from the carriage 8 and is driven by the motor placed in the carriage. A casing, preferably cylindrical, 12, surrounding the fan, is provided at its upper end with a central air inlet 13, and comprises, at its lower end,
EMI3.2
downwardly and outwardly extending ducts with downwardly converging walls, 14 and 15, for conducting air currents produced by the fan. The fan casing is also provided in the vicinity of the carriage, with outputs 16,
arranged diametrically in positions adjacent to the carriage 8, and which are provided with adjustable flaps 17 to control and direct downward air currents on the underlying machines.
Each of the ducts 14 and 15 comprises, preferably adjustable in an adjustable manner at its lower end, a sleeve or nozzle 18 extending downwards, to direct the jet of air which comes from it, downwards.
EMI3.3
on the side or flank of the underlying machine., as well as a downwardly extending sleeve or nozzle., 19, for directing an air stream transversely to the machine., The ducts 18 and 19 are arranged so providing a head or front nozzle and a tail or rear nozzle for each of the conduits 14 and 15, and the front and rear nozzles are arranged inversely on the conduits 14 and 15
In the present invention,
One or one or the other or both nozzles may be made of a highly flexible material capable of yielding
EMI3.4
when encountering an obstacle or obstruction in the path of the nozzles. Preferably, the nozzles 18 of the machine are made of a rigid material and terminate at a height such that they
EMI3.5
cannot meet any obstruction or obstacle as an operator or attendant passing in a corridor between groups of machines.
The nozzle 19 which conducts the transverse air flow to the machines is of an eminently flexible material and extends well below the end of the nozzle 18; it is provided with an end portion curved inwardly. and preferably with converging walls, which is placed at a predetermined height
EMI3.6
such that it directs the air inwardly below the rack 4, to prevent the accumulation of tow or tow on the underside of the rack;
, or else on the coils 5 and the wicks or wires 20 starting from them and tx a, .versant, the usual guide ring 21 and the drawing mechanism 22, up to the annular rail or guide 23 provided with usual panel and slider, for spinning and winding the wick or wire 20 on the spool 24.
Preferably, the sleeve or nozzle 19 comprises a sheath or sleeve formed of a suitable fabric which is advantageously impregnated with a suitable material to make it impermeable to the air jet which passes through it and which is provided with means suitable for retaining it expanded. .
'As illustrated in fig. 3 1-'extreme 25 of the sheath or sleeve is folded over a thin ring 26 of rigid material which is fixed. permanently in filled with the sheath. The sheath or sleeve can receive any desired length, in order to bring its outlet to a predetermined height suitable for directing the air current transversely to the machine. ,,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
immediately below the rack of the spinning loom, and below obstructions or similar obstacles in other machines, to the effect of effectively preventing or eliminating, on parts of such machines, any accumulation which would otherwise prevent these transverse air jets.
The flexible material sheath or sleeve will give way when it encounters an obstacle or any obstruction in its path, such as the presence of an operator passing in the corridor between adjacent aligned series of machines as illustrated on fig. 4 of the drawing.
It should be understood that the particular embodiment of the invention which has been shown and described is illustrative and not limiting, and that various modifications of form, construction and arrangement of the parts could be introduced without departing from the spirit of the invention. 'invention.
