CHAUFFE-LIQUIDE INSTANTANE.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

L'écoulement de la boite a lieu par un tuyau central 22 dont 1' extrémité supérieure s'étend jusque tout près de la membrane 5 et de la cloi- son 6, au-dessous de celles-ci. Le tuyau 22 se termine en bas par un raccord en deux parties 23-24. La partie extérieure 24 de ce raccord, qui sert en même temps au branchement du tuyau souple 29, est montée de façon pivotante sur la partie intérieure,23 qui est fixée au fond la, de la boite; les deux canaux 25-26 de ces parties du raccord sont décalés l'un par rapport à l'autre, de manière à pouvoir s'occulter mutuellement dans une mesure plus ou moins grande mais sans jamais arriver à l'chlitération complète;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

INSTANT LIQUID HEATER.
It is known practice to connect to the drawing point of a liquid pipe, preferably to a water tap, an instantaneous liquid heater consisting of an enclosure through which the liquid passes and containing a heating coil and by a device. switching on and off of the heating means.
According to the invention, the flow opening of the liquid heater is given a larger section than the inlet opening and the flow inlet is provided with a device making it possible to adjust the size. of the free orifice without, however, allowing it to be completely closed. In addition, the flow orifice is placed at the highest point of the chamber of the liquid heater, under its cover, and the latter is arranged in an enclosure containing the switching device for switching the heating on and off.
It is advantageous for this purpose to connect the adjustable flow port to a flow line passing through the chamber of the liquid heater and the inlet of which is located at the highest point of the chamber. which is in contact with the liquid stream, this chamber serving at the same time as a pressure chamber for switching the heater on and off.
The advantages of the invention lie in the fact that the same tap for water or other liquid can serve as a tap for cold or hot liquid, the heating device only coming into action automatically under the influence of a valve. reduction of the flow, which causes an increase in liquid pressure in the device.
The switching device preferably consists of a membrane which separates in a sealed manner, vapor and liquid either alone or in cooperation with a partition, the switching chamber of the chamber intended to receive the liquid to be heated. This membrane also acts as a heat insulator and protects the switching chamber against overheating.
@
According to one embodiment of the invention, the heating tube may be double-walled and not only be bathed externally by the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
liquid to be heated, but still passes through it internally.
In addition to the precaution which consists in not allowing the complete closing of the outlet of the box, a safety valve can be provided.
In addition, it is advantageous to constitute the contact device intended for switching on and off the action of a heating current in the form of a trotter contact which applies with a transverse movement with respect to the axis. longitudinal contact and which, by its sweeping movement, keeps the contact surfaces constantly clean. The contact surfaces may also optionally be provided with a heat insulating and cooling device to reduce the transmission of heat from the heating chamber to the contacts.
The liquid heater according to the invention can be constructed, including its contact device, in the form of an apparatus which is easy to manufacture, conveniently compact, quick and safe to operate and easy to operate. obtaining hot liquid and steam for household and industrial purposes. Due to the arrangement of the switching device at the highest point of the box through which the liquid passes, the heating device is only put into action when the chamber of the box which receives the liquid to be heated is actually fulfilled. The switching chamber is insulated from a calorific and electrical point of view as well as against humidity.
The membrane can also be made of an electrically insulating material. The heating coils and the heating tube cannot be turned red by any means because the flow line cannot be completely closed. By the arrangement, for the flow, of an overflow pipe going to the cover of the heating chamber, by a safety valve against overpressures and by the impossibility of completely closing the orifice of the heating chamber. flow The device is triply protected against the inadvertent formation of air bubbles and vapor pockets, as well as against bursting under the effect of overpressure.
Clogging of the contact device is prevented by its particular arrangement and, even if oxidation phenomena were to occur, the effect thereof would be eliminated from the contacts by sweeping. The device can be connected to any tap.
The description which will follow, with reference to the accompanying drawings, by way of non-limiting examples, will make it clear how the invention can be put into practice.

switch9 namely deolenché (figoll) being switched (fig. 12) and engaged (fig. 13),
Figure 14 is an electrical connection diagram.
In the embodiment shown in Figures 1 and 2, the water heater consists of a relatively small box 1, surmounted by a cover 2. The box and its cover are assembled together, so vapor tight, by means of 3-4 flanges. Between the two flanges are tightened together a partition 6 and a membrane 8 (fig. 3 and 4). The partition has a fairly large hole 7 and, in the field of this hole, the membrane 8 has a bulging subjected to a preliminary tension, with a tendency to bend downwards.
On the upper face of this bulge is a push button 9 which acts on a spring 10 fixed to a first contact 11 and the free end of which is kept apart in front of a second contact 12. The contacts 11 and 12 are placed in the circuit. of the cord 16 ends in a socket 14. To enable the current to be turned on and to be cut off voluntarily without having to remove the plug 14, a toggle switch 15 is provided which can be arranged either in the bead 16, or at the point where the latter enters the cover 2.
The aforementioned electrical circuit serves to heat a heating tube 17, the two ends of which are fixed to the aforementioned partition 6. A pipe 18 serves for the admission of the liquid into the chamber of the box in which the heating tube is placed 17. The valve 19 screws onto the water pipe comprises a tubular bypass 20 on the thread of which the heating tube is screwed. threaded connection 21 of the water heater.
The flow of the box takes place through a central pipe 22, the upper end of which extends very close to the membrane 5 and the partition 6, below them. The pipe 22 ends at the bottom with a two-part connector 23-24. The outer part 24 of this connector, which serves at the same time for the connection of the flexible pipe 29, is pivotally mounted on the inner part, 23 which is fixed to the bottom 1a of the box; the two channels 25-26 of these parts of the connector are offset with respect to one another, so as to be able to conceal each other to a greater or lesser extent but without ever reaching complete chliteration;
in other words) there is always at least one small passage 27 (Figures 5 and 6). This connection is adjusted by rotating part 24, using a lever 280
To put the apparatus into service, plug 14 is inserted into a socket and the switch 15 is closed. The heating tube 17 is not yet traversed by current; the water tap 20 is then opened and the flow line 25-26 is adjusted appropriately. When no more liquid arrives through the tap 19 of the box 1 than it flows out. the via connection 24, the tap water 20 passes through the box without being heated.
It is only when the water tap 19 is open enough for more liquid to arrive through it than it escapes through the flow that an electrical circuit is closed and the tube heated. 17 and, consequently, of the liquid which passes through the apparatus. The flow rate thus determined regulates at the same time the speed of circulation of the water through the box, speed on which the heating temperature of the tank depends. 'water. The flow connection can be adjusted by means of the handle 28 so that lukewarm or hot liquid or even steam flows.
The adjustment of the heating effect is facilitated by a graduation!) Or other similar system of markers, arranged on the exterior face of the box in the pivoting field of the lever 28. The liquid or the vapor which escapes can be directed for any purpose by the flexible pipe 29 (fig. 1) or by any other pipe connected to the connector 24.
The water heater which has just been described makes it possible to obtain very hot water in a few seconds. It also helps to make consistent fats and oils fluid and to heat utensils at the time of use.
The bursting of the box under the effect of an overpressure is prevented by the constant presence of an open flow orifice 27 (fig.6).
As soon as the pressure in box 1 falls below a value
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
determined, the membrane 8 returns from the position shown in FIG. 4 to the tripping position according to FIG. 3 and thus cuts off the contact which supplies the heating coil as soon as the spring 10 leaves the contact 12.
FIG. 7 represents a more efficient liquid heater from the point of view of the calorific technique and in which the coil 17 is also bathed inside by the fluid to be heated (see FIG. 8). To this end, the heating coil 17, of fairly large diameter and one of the ends of which in the present case ends near the flow of the box, contains another tube 32 which is for example connected by its lower end to the outlet. The upper end of the inner pipe ends on the lower face of the support disc 6 or of the membrane 8 in the chamber of the box 1. Between the two pipes 17 and 32 is arranged the heating wire 33 which is insulated and which transfers its heat to the outside and to the inside. As an outer tube, a copper pipe is advantageously used.
The electrical conductor is formed by a chromium-nickel alloy wire wrapped with a ribbon 34 of glass silk or mica. As the inner tube .. a copper pipe is also used. The bare wire sections which. are in the chamber electrical conductors can be embedded in beads of glass or soapstone 35, by means of which are also electrically insulated the conductor passages in the walls of the apparatus. At the inner end of the heating coil is disposed a closure sleeve 36 (Figures 7 and 8).
The operating mode of the apparatus which has just been described is on the whole the same as that of FIG. 1. The cold water which comes from the tap 19 and which is brought to the water heater enters through the branch 20 in box 1, rises to diaphragm 8 through the narrow overflow pipe 22 and leaves the box through fitting 23. As the overflow pipe 22 can only admit less liquid than it does. does not arrive through the pipe 20, an overpressure occurs as soon as the liquid reaches the upper inlet opening of the small tube. This overpressure has the consequence that the membrane 8 deforms upward and closes the heating circuit.
Apart from the arrangement of an inwardly and outwardly acting heating tube, an acceleration of the reactive power is obtained by making the heating chamber as small as possible. This can be achieved, while maintaining a large Coil, by making a recessed part 5 of the bottom more or less far upwards into the chamber of the box, as shown in figure 90.
The embodiment shown in FIG. 9 further comprises a particularly advantageous arrangement of the contact device. First of all, the latter is provided with an annular disc 37 playing the role of a cooling fin.
In addition, the contact 11 is subjected on one of its sides to the action either of a slightly soft conductor connection 38, or of a preliminary tension of the membrane 8 which is somewhat unilateral, so as to take first of all a slightly oblique position (fig. 12) during its movement from the triggering position (fig. 11), after which it comes to take the engaged position by coming to rest obliquely from the side and from the bottom, on its counter-contact 12 (fig. 13). This movement has the consequence that the contact which slides laterally during the closing of the contact sweeps the oxide particles which could exist on the contact,
so that the contact point always remains clean and smooth. Another peculiarity of the apparatus shown in figure 9 resides in a contact holder 39 provided in the cover 2 of the box, for example in the form of 'a curved flat iron in U. This contact carrier receives, in addition to the contacts and the necessary conductor guides, the screws or terminals 40 intended to relieve the conductors of the tensile forces. An air exhaust duct 41 for the conductor chamber is provided between the edges of the box and of its cover.
In addition, the seal between box and cover is externally protected by a flange 42 for protection against splashing water which projects, for example, downwards from the edge of the cover.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
In the exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 9, there is provided as a flow valve a pivoting valve 43 actuated by a handle 44. This valve can, like all the other flow shutters, be subjected to Inaction. an interlock consisting of, for example, a spring and a ball and holding the valve in an open position for flow temperatures of 40.50, 60 and 1000 for example, giving a housewife inexperienced in the point of view easy-to-feel pressure point technique, The overflow pipe 22 also prevents the inadvertent formation of vapor pockets in this case. In particular, when a drain valve is provided which can be completely blocked,
it is advantageous to have an overpressure protection valve at a suitable point 450
FIG. 14 represents an advantageous electrical circuit diagram for all the embodiments of the liquid heater. In this drawing, the corresponding reference figures of the previous examples have been shown, so that no special description is required.
It goes without saying that, without departing from the scope of the invention, it is possible to make modifications to the embodiments which have just been described and to combine their particularities in various ways,
If, in particular, instead of electric current, for heating, for example, a liquid or a gas (for example vapor or exhaust gases) is available,
the electric switch should be replaced by a throttle valve, a flat or piston slide, a rotary distributor or the like for causing and stopping the arrival of the heating agent to the pipe of heating.
