GRIGNOTEUSE.

Fig. 4 est une coupe selon ligne C - C de la Fig. 1 et
Fig. 5 représente un détail à échelle agrandie.

Nibbler.
Nibblers are fast-moving stamping machines, the punch of which shows a simple geometric profile (round, square), and are generally designed such that the advance between two cuts of the workpiece, driven at hand free, cannot exceed a determined maximum.
It therefore follows that at each stroke of a cut, succeeding each other rapidly, a narrow strip of material - in the form of an increasing number by use of punches with a cylindrical profile - is stamped at an accelerated rate following a line. thus allowing the rapid and clean cutting of pieces with any irregular contours. In general, the limitation of the advance is provided by the arrangement of a recess at the end of the punch, which recess abuts the workpiece; this withdrawal could be formed by a cylindrical stud, for example, adapted to the end of the punch '= çon.
For some time now, small hand-held nibblers have been built for machining plates which, due to their location or their size or weight, cannot be worked on stationary machines.
These devices, driven by hand, have a head in which the punch is guided and carries at its end the die corresponding to this punch, The part of the nibbling head supporting the die accuses, in the direction of the material, a notch in the form of a mouth and is integral with the rest of the part by a bridge arranged on the side of the punch opposite to the notch. The width of this bridge will advantageously be narrower than the diameter of the punch in order to ensure the advance, without obstacle, of the workpiece.
Known machines of this type have the disadvantage of having the head carrying the punch rigidly fixed to the casing of the machine, from which obli- gation, following a curve - for cutting a round opening in a part. that can be moved, for example - to evolve the whole machine. On the other hand, the motor being incorporated in the tool, the latter acquires a certain length which, depending on the shape of the workpiece

or the conditions of his immediate surroundings, may hinder his progress and, consequently, prevent the execution of the operation.
The object of the invention is therefore a hand-operated, motor-driven nibbler, in which the head is connected to the housing of the machine in a non-rigid manner so that, in any operating condition, it can be turned continuously 3600 around the axis of the punch. As a result, it is therefore possible to always direct the notch in the most favorable direction to adapt it to the needs of the moment and thus to achieve continuous work without the need to constantly have to turn the machine all the time. whole you.
The accompanying drawing, without prejudice to any other embodiment, illustrates an exemplary embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a side view, in which the front part of the mechanism is shown in section.
Fig. 2 is a section through the machine, along line A-A of FIG. l.
Fig, 3 is a top view of a detail in section, along line B-B of FIG. 1.
Fig. 4 is a section along line C - C of FIG. 1 and
Fig. 5 shows a detail on an enlarged scale.
The shaft 2 of the motor, housed in the cage I forming a handle, carries at one of its ends a pinion 3 meshing with a larger toothed wheel 4 against a reduction gear. A pinion 5, integral with the toothed wheel 4, is coaxial with the latter and both are housed rotatably on a fixed common shaft 6.
In a gear case 7, fixed by screws 8 to the motor cage 1, the shaft 6 is ordered there in such a way that one of its ends is housed in the cage 1 and the other in the shaft. housing 7. Another shaft 9 is housed identically between the two housings and supports the last pinion 10, rotatably mounted, of the reduction gear. The gear shafts 6 and 9 can be secured to the casing against any slipping, either using screws as at 11, or by any other suitable means, without prejudice to the invention. On one of its sides, the pinion 10 shows a hub extension of which a part, relative to the axis of the wheel, forms a journal 10 'eccentric by the sum e on which the collar of a connecting rod 12 is rotatably housed. .
As soon as the motor is started, the eccentric 10 'moves continuously at a speed - reduced with respect to the motor shaft.
On one side, the gear case shows, perpendicular to the axis of the motor, a cylindrical tab 13, the periphery of which is threaded.
A cylindrical guide sleeve 14 is pressed into the central bore of said tab. In the extended axis of the tab 13 is ordered a nibbling head 15 which shows a short centering 16 adjusted, easily rotatable, to the internal diameter of the sleeve 14 and a flange 17 resting on the front surface of the tab 13 Said nibbler head is secured in this position by a union nut 18 screwed onto the thread of the tab 13 so that, when the edge of the nut 18 abuts the gear housing 7, the flange 17 , located between the nut and the lug 13 can still be easily turned by hand.
A longitudinal bore, coaxial with the guide sleeve 14, passes through the nibbling head and in this bore a punch 19 moves axially, the diameter of its head, which is greater than that of its spindle, corresponds to the internal diameter of the sleeve. guide 14 in which it can slide easily.
The head 20 of the punch shows a transverse slot. In which engages the end of the connecting rod 12 connected by articulation, by means of a journal 21, to the said punch head, so that the eccentric rotates -
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
tif 10 'gives the latter a rapid continuous reciprocating movement
At the base 15 'of the nibbler head is a stamp die cooperating with the punch 19, and, above this die, a notch 22 in the form of a mouth, made in the nibbler head allows 1-brought. material to the punch and clears the die.
The notch, the opening of which is somewhat smaller than the stroke of the punch, is continued on both sides of the punch in the nibbler head to ensure the free passage of material during work.
It follows that there remains at the base 15 'of the head only a material bridge 23, narrower than the diameter of the punch, connecting it to the body of the head and the forces due to the rapid variations of load which must undergo this bridge being relatively severe, it is indicated, in prevention of material breakage at this place, to re-use for the preparation of the nibbling head a high quality non-hardened material. On the other hand, it is essential that the hardened punch cooperate with a die also hardened. For this purpose, the bore made in the base of the nibbler head is of a diameter greater than that of the punch and it is tapped over part of its length while the remaining part forms a cone.
An interchangeable die in hardened steel 32, conforming to the profile of the bore, has an external thread and taper. It is also provided with a screw slot, facilitating its exchange.
As mentioned above, the nibbler head 15 is connected to the gear case in such a way that even in full operation, it can continuously be turned by hand 360 in both directions so that the notch 22 can always take the correct position during each phase of work. A device is also provided at the nibbling head for stopping and locking the latter at certain angles relative to the tool housing.
This device comprises a divider disc 24 centered on the nibbling head 15 to which it can be fixedly fixed by a screw 25 or by any other means. The edge of the dividing disc is extended in the axial direction so as to envelop the coupling nut 18, and provided with notches 26 spaced at determined distances. The internal diameter of the dividing disc leaves the union nut 18 free, so that this disc with the head 15 can be easily turned by hand.
A tilting lock 27, in the form of a lever with double arms of different lengths, is mounted on the motor housing, parallel to its axis. This lock is arranged in a groove 28 made in the motor housing on a pivot 29 perpendicular to the groove. The short arm is directed towards the divider disc 24 so as to be able to engage in one of the notches 26, while the long arm extends parallel to the axis of the motor. Under the long arm, a spring loaded pin 30 is arranged in the motor housing and it exerts its pressure on this arm of the lock so that the shorter arm is kept in constant mesh in one of the notches 26. .
