<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

Absorption refrigeration apparatus.
The present invention relates to an absorption refrigeration apparatus operating by means of an auxiliary pressure-compensating gas.
Known devices of this type include an evaporator consisting either of a vertical receptacle provided with distributing trays for the liquid refrigerant, or of a coil, in which there are generally available members intended to retain the refrigerant which trickles through the evaporator tube, to form evaporating surfaces as large as possible.
Container evaporators consist of the assembly of numerous parts, which must have contact with the wall of the evaporator ensuring good heat conduction, which requires complicated and therefore relatively expensive manufacture. These types of evaporators
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
also present, from a thermodynamic point of view, the drawback that the heat transmission paths between the points of evaporation, that is to say the places of production of cold, and the points of reception of heat from the evaporator wall, are relatively long.
As is known, the use of coil evaporators, sensitive to variations in level, requires a relatively expensive raw material. In addition, it is difficult, in this case, to correctly construct the coils to achieve a satisfactory thermal connection between the evaporator tube and its casing provided for receiving the heat from the chamber to be cooled, for example by means of a finned body. Another disadvantage of a thermodynamic order of coil evaporators lies in the fact that they produce relatively high pressure losses in the auxiliary gas circuit, due to the large lengths and sections of the tubes.
As a result, the profitable pressure loss in the gas heat exchanger is reduced, which affects the efficiency of the entire apparatus for a determined external surface of this heat exchanger.
In the absorption refrigeration apparatus of the present invention, these drawbacks are overcome owing to the fact that the apparatus comprises a double-walled evaporator, arranged horizontally, the wall of which is at least partially provided with an evaporator. coating serving to distribute the liquid refrigerant.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of non-limiting example, one embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a schematic elevation of the absorption refrigeration apparatus.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on a larger scale of the evaporator with its inlet and outlet pipes for the refrigerant and the gas.
Fig 3 is a cross section of the evaporator along line III-III of FIG. 2.

Fig. 4 is a cross section on a larger scale taken along the line IV-IV of FIG. 2, passing through the pipes through which the refrigerant and gas enter and exit the evaporator.
The absorption refrigeration appliance, shown in the overview fig. 1, comprises a boiler of usual construction 1, a condenser 2, an absorber 3 and a gas heat exchanger 4, as well as the new evaporator 5, constructed according to the present invention. The small pipe 6 which partially passes through the tube 4 of the heat exchanger directs the liquefied refrigerant in the condenser towards the interior of the evaporator 5, while the small pipe 7 serves to compensate the pressure of the condenser. auxiliary gas. The tubular conduits 8 and 9 serve to bring back to the boiler 1 the solution enriched by the refrigerant as it passes through the absorber 3. The pipe 10, of smaller section and partially passing through the coil 9, leads into the. absorber the solution poor in refrigerant.
The evaporation chamber 11 is formed, retort as seen in FIG. 2, by a hollow outer body 5 'in the form of a cup and by a similar body 5 "smaller, housed in the first, so that the edges of these two cylindrical bodies concentric with each other, are curved. 'towards each other and joined by a suitable weld 12.
The 5 "hollow body has just the length necessary to leave between the two curved ends of the two hollow bodies sufficient space to introduce: the pipe 6 of small diameter for the supply of refrigerant, the 4 'end of the pipe of the heat exchanger device operated on gas, through which flows the hydrogen directed to the evaporation chamber and serving as auxiliary pressure compensating gas, and finally, the pipe 13 through which the vapor mixture of refrigerant and gas return to absorber 3.
These pipes 6, 4 'and 13 for the inlet and outlet of the refrigerant and the gas are arranged concentrically between them and
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
introduced together through a lower and rear part of the wall of the outer hollow body 5 ', so that a single welded joint is sufficient at the common place of introduction 15 of these pipes. The outer tubular part 4 ', which constitutes the hydrogen supply pipe and which is introduced into the evaporator, is crushed between the entry point 15 thereof and its upper end so as to present a cross section. elliptical in shape, the minor axis of which corresponds to the diameter of the pipe 13 which serves to return the mixture of gas and steam, so that this pipe 13 is held in the pipe 4 '.
The upper end of this pipe 13 is narrowed to match the diameter of the pipe 6, of smaller section, which serves for the introduction of the refrigerant and which is thus kept concentrically throughout the whole. Just above their common point of entry into the hollow body 5 ', the two pipes 4' and 13 are provided with a common opening 16 oriented towards the annular chamber of the evaporator; this opening 16 serves to evacuate the mixture consisting of the evaporated coolant and the auxiliary gas out of the evaporation chamber.
This concentric arrangement of the inlet and outlet pipes, and their introduction through a single opening at the rear of the evaporator, make it possible to achieve, as seen in FIG. 2, the advantageous constructive arrangement of these pipes behind the rear wall 17 of the refrigerator fitted with this refrigeration appliance. ,
So that the circulation takes place according to a favorable circuit, the hydrogen supply pipe 4 'is advantageously extended to the upper zone of the evaporator, while the pipe 6, of smaller section, by in which the refrigerant is introduced into the evaporator, is bent and extends 6 'so as to end towards the front of the upper part of the evaporation chamber.
A plate 18 is arranged below the outlet of the pipe 6 'to ensure the distribution of the refrigerant which comes out therefrom and to
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
prevent this agent from flowing back along this pipe 6 '.
The inner hollow body 5 "is provided, on its outer surface which delimits the evaporation chamber, with a coating 19 which facilitates the distribution of the liquid cooling agent which it receives; this coating consists of: preferably by an asbestos sheet which exerts a capillary attraction and thus forms a large evaporation surface. This coating layer is held on the outer surface of the wall 5 "of the evaporator by means of a metal net 19. The coating may consist of a material other than an asbestos sheet, for example of textile fibers or a similar material, or of other materials offering a certain capillarity such as a ceramic layer. , metal oxide or the like.
The evaporation chamber could also advantageously be subdivided due to the fact that, for example, the parts of the wall of the outer hollow body are pressed towards the inner hollow body so as to form chambers which are hermetically separated from one another, these wall parts being welded to the inner hollow body; each chamber or evaporation compartment thus obtained would receive, in this case, separate inlet and outlet pipes for the refrigerant and the gas.
The outer wall of the hollow body 5 ', forming the evaporator, which is located in the cooling chamber of the refrigerating cabinet in question, is provided with a body 20 intended to conduct heat to the wall of the chamber. 'evaporator, this body 20 being of a type known per se and consisting for example of a piece of molten aluminum provided with fins. Instead of using a single body comprising fins, it is possible to provide several similar bodies, thermally insulated from one another and of different dimensions according to their respective outer surface.
It is advantageous that the lower edges of the fins 21 which must ensure the admission of heat, are inclined downwards and towards the center with respect to the axial vertical plane.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
of the evaporator, so that during the defrosting of the evaporator the water drops are directed towards the middle, from one of the sides, so that they can fall into the drip tray placed in the - below the finned body.
At the front, the opening of the cup-shaped evaporator space is provided with a closing flap 22 making it possible to close this deep cooling chamber which serves more especially to introduce a tray therein to obtain heat. ice. given that the deep cooling chamber consists of a hollow cylinder, the ice tray can be placed there advantageously, this tray being in contact with the inner wall of the evaporator only on two edges, which practically eliminates the risk of welding the plate to this wall by freezing.
The simple and statically advantageous construction of the evaporator of the absorption refrigeration apparatus according to the invention, described above, has considerable advantages also in terms of the manufacturing technique. which make it possible to produce an evaporator capable of providing the best possible thermodynamic yields.
given, moreover, that the evaporator is constructed with a double wall, the surface which is used for the admission of the heat is relatively very large, compared to the volume of the evaporation chamber, while the path taken by the evaporative coolant for its diffusion is relatively short, which is extremely important for the efficiency of an evaporator, especially because of the sharp reduction in the pressure loss in this same evaporator.
Likewise, the provision of a coating for the distribution of the liquid refrigerant agent, particularly in the form of a layer exerting a capillary attraction, on the interior parts of the wall of the evaporator, makes it possible to provide a surface. relatively large evaporation.
In addition, it is possible to form at will various evaporation, that is to say cooling zones, by adopting a suitable distribution of
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
these capillary layers in the evaporator. The cylindrical shape of the evaporator according to the invention allows easy assembly of the finned body provided for the conduction of heat and to produce large contact surfaces with high thermal conduction between this finned body and the outer wall of the heat exchanger. the evaporator; finally, this method of construction makes it possible to use in a very rational way the space available inside the refrigeration cabinet in question.
