<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
schématiques d'un dispositif de moulage appliquant le procédé de l'invention;

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>

"Device and machine process for the manufacture of plastic slide clasps".
The invention relates to a new process for the manufacture of slide clasps and, in particular, to those made of plastic material. The invention also extends to device and machine capable of applying the aforementioned novel process.
The process according to the invention more particularly vice versa the continuous production of the crêpent clasps, this directly on their support tape, the crampons being formed starting from a plastic material, generally t hermpopasic, and clinging vigorously to the backing tape at rigorously predetermined equidstanes
This method has, compared to known methods,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
considerable advantages given that it allows the use of fully automatic machines, on the one hand supplied with the plastic material and the support tape to be covered with spikes, and on the other hand continuously producing this the same backing tape fitted, in the duly pre-established places, with its hardened spikes energetically overlapping the backing tape.
The new process according to the invention therefore systematically improves the known processes in which the pre-fabricated studs must be crimped one by one onto their support tape, with all the drawbacks that this entails, as well as certain known molding processes in which the studs are molded directly onto their support tapes, the latter having to be introduced one after the other into a mold, each operation requiring numerous manipulations resulting in a considerable loss of time and thus making this process very expensive.
The method of the invention is essentially characterized in that it consists in passing a chamber, continuously supplied with a suitable plastic material in a suitable state of fluidity, the support tape, clamped between perforated metal strips and whose the inner edge to be trimmed with studs comes into contact with a median notched strip located in the extension of the support tape, the arrangement of these openings and notches relative to the support tape being such that, when the assembly - outer strips, middle band and backing tape - leaves the feed chamber, the plastic has entered the openings and notches, so that the aforementioned assembly carries with it small masses of hardening plastic material,
delimited by the outer surfaces of the outer perforated bands and forming, around the inner edge of the support tape, a clamp which overlaps it energetically and which does not require any subsequent fixing operation.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
This extremely simple and rational process can be carried out using devices and machines which are equally simple and which operate rapidly and continuously.
In fact, the method is particularly suitable for being carried out by machines comprising molding bands in the form of endless ribbons which suffices to provide openings and notches suitable for the studs to be produced, to store the support tape therein and to pass this assembly through a chamber of fluid plastic material under pressure, the endless molding ribbons being able to be driven by duly synchronized and adjustable drums and arranged so that the endless ribbons embrace the support tape heading towards the chamber molding, to gradually abandon it on leaving this chamber, while ensuring such relative movement between the molding tapes and the support tape that the release of the studs is carried out normally.
On the basis of this conception, it is possible to execute fully automatic machines which are extremely rapid and relatively very simple compared with known manufacturing, crimping and molding devices.
The essential characteristics of the method according to the invention as well as of the device and of the machine capable of carrying it out will emerge clearly from the following description of an exemplary embodiment, with reference to the appended drawings in which: FIGS. 1 and 2 are, respectively, a perspective view and a longitudinal section of an assembly schematically showing the process of the invention; Figures 3 and 4 are perspective views with partial sections of the studs; Figures 5 and 6 are, respectively, a perspective view with partial section, and a vertical radial section
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
diagrams of a molding device applying the method of the invention;
FIGS. 7 and 8 are, respectively, a side view with partial section, and a plan view with partial section, of a molding head provided with its device for adjusting the molding bands; Figures 9 and 10 are, respectively, a schematic elevational view and a perspective view of the essential part of a machine applying the method of the invention.
In Figures 1 and 2, illustrating the process according to the invention, the chamber is noted; permanently supplied with a fluid plastic material, crossed by two perforated outer bands 2-2 'and a narrower middle band 3, housed between the bands 2'2'; the free space remaining between the bands 2'2 'being occupied by the support-tape 4 to be fitted with studs.
The openings 5-5 '. bands 2-2 'respectively. are arranged perfectly opposite each other, while the notches, provided along the inner edge of the median strip 3 are arranged in the axis of each addition 5, respectively 5 ',
If the assembly thus formed is given a continuous movement in the direction of the arrow F, the part of the assembly located inside the supply chamber 1, therefore being exposed to the influx of the fluid plastic material, will see its openings 5-5 'filled. and pass through its notches of this material, which, at the sealed outlet of the chamber, will cool and be simultaneously scraped by the ridges of the outlet slit of the chamber.
The assembly moving continuously, it follows that, gradually, all the openings and all the notches will be filled, then scraped, and the assembly, by gradually cooling, can then be broken by gradually releasing the bands outer 2-2 'and the band
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
median 3, of the support tape 4 while leaving, on the inner edge of the latter, crampons 7 whose two flanges overlapping the roan 4 and forming the heads, for example semi-elliptical, have been molded by the outer bands 2-2 '. while the median strip 3 will have, by its notches 6, formed the small cross members connecting the two aforementioned flanges.
Figures 3 and 4 illustrate clearly and greatly enlarged the formation of these studs; The conventional crampons to be produced, substantially constituted by two flanges with heads, for example semi-elliptical, connected by a narrower part 2 to a base part 10, the two complete flanges being joined by a small cross member semicircular 11.
Figures 3 and 4 also illustrate the molding of the sleepers 11 by the notches 2 of the middle strip 3.
The above-described method can obviously be carried out practically according to numerous variant embodiments of devices capable of implementing said method.
Figures 5 and 6 schematically illustrate a molding head applying the method of the invention.
In these figures, there are the actual molding elements such as the outer perforated bands 2-2 'with their openings, respectively 5-5'. and the middle strip 3 with its notches 6, as well as the support tape 4 to be fitted with spikes 2 and the feed chamber l. The latter forms part of a head 12, integral with the general frame of the machine (not shown) and provided with the necessary members and known per se to ensure a continuous supply of the appropriate plastic material, in a state of fluidity and under a pre-set pressure and temperature.
All of the molding bands and the backing tape pass through the head .1 through entry and exit slots 13., duly shaped and rectified to ensure
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
simultaneously gentle friction between the outer bands 2-2 '. and the surfaces of the slots themselves, and a perfect seal of the feed chamber. The chamber 1 is vertically traversed by a post with a special profile 14, which, while allowing a normal inflow of the molding material towards the openings of the molding bands, also constitutes an additional guiding element for all the bands. movable, and a housing to keep the part of the support tape not to be treated, protected from the action of the plastic material under pressure.
For this purpose, the vertical upright 14 comprises a rear hollow 15 allowing the placement, for example of two guide rollers 16, while it has two lateral guide paths 16 towards the front, interrupted by two semi-circular notches17 s 'extending to the outer slots 13 of the mold head 12.
By means of this extremely simple device, the method of the invention can be applied continuously and very quickly.
It will suffice, in fact, to slide all the molding strips, rigorously held in their essential relative positions, through the head 123 to obtain, at the exit of this head, by promoting the cooling of the plastic material and in progressively separating the molding elements from the support tape, a support tape duly lined with its spikes, strictly conforming to the openings and the molding notches, uniformly spaced along the corresponding edge of the tape by vigorously overlapping it, this overlap being further favored by the contraction effect of cooling the plastic.
As said above, this cooling can be achieved by a simple cold or refrigerated air blower acting directly.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
ment on or around the assembly emerging from the molding head.
The control and adjustment mechanisms of such a molding device can also be designed and implemented in various ways.
FIGS. 7 to 10 give, by way of example, a part of the machine, especially the molding head with the mechanical control, adjustment and guiding organs of the molding bands and of the support tape to be treated.
In these figures, we see the molding head 12, integral with the general frame 18 of the machine, provided and surrounded by its adjustment and control elements.
The actual head 2 is fixed on a housing 12 pressing on the frame 18 of the machine. This casing 19 carries, at its upper surface, a support 20 on which bear the axes 21-22, respectively of two drive drums 23-24, and the axis 25 of an upper guide drum 26. The support 20 carries, in turn, a small support 27 in which the axle end 28 of a guide roller 29 bears.
On the lower surface of the housing 12 is fixed a support 30 on which are mounted, in an adjustable manner, the axes 31-32-33-34 of the guide drums, respectively 35-36-37-38. the vertical position of these drums can be adjusted, thanks to the oblong slots 39 formed in the support and cooperating with adjustment screws 40.
Drums 23-24. are integral with toothed wheels, respectively 41-42. meshing with each other, the toothed wheel 42 being positively controlled by the toothed pinion 43 of a motor-reduction unit or speed variator 4, mounted on the housing 19,
The outer molding perforated bands are, in this case, executed as endless bands 45-46. guided and stretched around the drums, respectively 23-35 and 24-36. whose
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
upper drums 23-24 are the driving drums controlled by the motor group 44.
The notched middle belt is also executed as an endless tape 47, guided and stretched around the drums 26 and 37, while the support tape 4, coming from a feed member (not shown) and guided by the lower drum 38, to then pass between the endless ribbons 45-46 and against the endless ribbon 4 ?, then cross the head .la to then, furnished with its crampons, disengage from its molding ribbons by the roller 29 whose the position is chosen so as to cause the normal demolding of the cross member 11 of the crampon of the notches 6 of the median strip 47.
The drums 31 and 24 therefore constitute the control elements, both of the outer ribbons 45-46 and of the middle tape 47 and of the support tape 44, because the latter two are clamped between the endless tapes 45-46.
One of the main characteristics of the invention is that an adjustment and control device is provided which systematically excludes any relative movement between the various molding elements during the operation of the machine.
For this purpose, the front edges of the three molding tapes are provided with toothing, simultaneously meshing with a toothed pinion 8 bearing on two projecting parts 49-50 of the head 12, using small sliders 51-52 . slidable in slots 54 provided in the protrusions 49-50 of the head. The toothed pinion 4µ is normally biased outwards by coil springs 55 acting on the sliders 51-52. the extreme position of the latter is limited by two adjustment screws, respectively 56-57.
This characteristic arrangement systematically excludes any break in the relative position of the molding strips and also makes it possible to permanently adjust the pressure of the molding strips.
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
molding tapes on the rollers 16 arranged in the molding head of the machine.
In FIGS. 9 and 10, it will also be noted that the set of tapes passes through, leaving the molding head 12, a sleeve 58 in which a current of cold or refrigerated air can be maintained in order to cool the mold. plastic material and ribbons to facilitate the release of the studs.
The machine also has very hot air ejectors 59-60. arranged so as to vigorously scrape the edges of the openings and notches of the molding tapes during their return stroke, in order to eject deposits or burrs which could still adhere to the molding orifices of the tapes.
It is obvious that the aforementioned elements and components only constitute the essential elements indispensable to the main operation of the device of the invention, and that the machine can be supplemented by numerous accessories considered compatible with the functioning of the machine.
In the examples illustrated, molding tapes have been shown diagrammatically having an uninterrupted continuity of molding orifices and notches; However, it appears obvious that different groups of molding tapes can be provided comprising successive series of rows of uniform or different holes, adapted to the lengths of the slide clasps to be manufactured.
The very design of the method, the device and the machine according to the invention moreover make it possible to provide the machine with several interchangeable molding tapes which could be used alternately depending on the practical case envisaged.
Likewise, it would be possible to envisage executing the supports of the drums as a removable assembly, so as to produce interchangeable drum and ribbons assemblies allowing the mounting and adjustment, separately from the machine, of the molding equipment. Or else, the guide drums of the ribbons could be made so as to be easily removable by sliding on their respective axes.
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
Also, the objects of the invention can be applied to the manufacture of all models of studs from plastics or thermoplastics, also in principle of any kind.
CLAIMS.
@ 1.- Process for the manufacture of plastic slide clasps, more particularly the crampons of the clasps, characterized in that it consists in passing through a chamber continuously supplied with a fluid plastic material, the support tape clamped between perforated metal bands whose edge to be furnished with crampons comes into contact with a notched median band situated in the transverse extension of the support tape, the openings and notches adapted to the crampons to be produced being arranged by in relation to the backing tape in such a way that when the assembly - outer bands, middle band and backing tape - leaves the feed chamber,
the plastic material is introduced into the openings and the notches so that the aforesaid assembly carries with it small masses of hardening plastic material delimited by the outer surfaces of the outer perforated bands forming a clamp around the inner edge of the support tape of which the two flanges overlapping the support tape and constituting the head of the crampon are formed by the openings of the outer bands, while the small cross members connecting these two flanges are formed by the corresponding notch in the median tape.
