<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

"Process for the treatment of fibers, installation and reel for the implementation of this process".
The present invention relates to a process for the treatment of fibers, preferably bast fibers, more particularly for the bleaching of these fibers, according to which said fibers are wound around a perforated support, preferably cylindrical, allowing the circulation of a treatment liquid, and the fibers are subjected to immersion.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
For the preparation, spinning and bleaching of flax roving and similar fibers, hitherto, on the one hand, a spool on which the roving is wound during the preparation and spinning operations has been used and on the other hand a openwork support on which the wick is wound for bleaching.
As a result, according to known methods, the wick must at least once be rewound.
The object of the present invention is in particular to remedy this drawback.
For this purpose, said support is immobilized between two flanges and 1- 'assembly formed by the flanges and the support is applied to a machine.
In an advantageous embodiment of the object of the invention, the support is immobilized between the flanges, the fibers are then wound up on the support, the flanges are removed from the support and the fibers are subjected to immersion.
In a preferred embodiment of the object of the invention, the support is immobilized after immersion of the fibers between the flanges and the assembly formed by the flanges, the support and the fibers is subsequently applied to a spinning machine.
The present invention also relates to a coil for implementing the method according to the invention.
In fact, the coils generally used comprising a hollow core intended to be threaded onto a spindle of a spinning machine, and terminated at their ends by two flanges, do not lend themselves to the method according to the invention.
The invention therefore relates to a spool for implementing the method, comprising a hollow core which can be threaded onto a spindle of a textile machine such as a spinning machine, and
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
terminated by a flange at each of its ends.
The coil according to the invention can be used in the method mentioned above because at least one of said flanges is removable.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the coil according to the invention, the removable flange has at its center a threaded orifice preferably having a rapid pitch, and capable of fitting onto a threaded end of the core.
According to a preferred embodiment, the inside face of the aforementioned flanges has an annular groove concentric with the core of the coil, and of a diameter substantially equal to that of the aforementioned cylindrical support.
The invention also relates to an installation for implementing the aforementioned method.
This installation comprises in particular a member on which at least one support can be threaded, a passage for the liquid being provided between this support and this member, while an element surrounds said support at one of its ends.
In an advantageous embodiment of the installation according to the invention, at least two supports are threaded on the same member, the aforesaid element being threaded on the member between these two supports and surrounding the adjacent ends of these supports.
Other details and particularities of the subject of the invention will emerge from the description of a process for treating fibers, as well as of an installation and of a spool for implementing this process, given below by way of non-limiting example and with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a spool according to the invention provided with a support for carrying out the process also according to this invention.

Figure 2 is a plan view of the lower flange of the coil according to Figure 1.
FIG. 3 is a schematic representation of an installation for the actual bleaching of fibers.
Figure 4 is a sectional view of part of the installation of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a sectional view along the V-V plane of Figure 4.
Figure 6 is a sectional view along the plane VI-VI of Figure 4.
Figure 7 is a sectional view along the plane VII-VII of Figure 4.
In the various figures, the same reference notations designate identical elements.
The coil shown in Figures 1 and 2 has a core 1 terminated by the flanges 2 and 3. The core 1 and the flanges are perforated along their common axis at 4, so that the coil can be threaded on a spindle d 'a spinning loom.
The upper flange 2 being. removable, the support 5 which carries the wicks during the bleaching and possibly dyeing operations can be embedded on the core 1.
The support, preferably stainless metal, can be focused on the core of the coil thanks to the presence of annular grooves 6 and 7, made in the inner surface of the flanges 2 and 3, and of diameter practically equal to that of the support . The latter can be held between the flanges by the pressure exerted by the removable flange which is screwed with rapid pitch onto the end of the core 1.
A series of cavities 8 formed in the external face of the internal flange 3, makes it possible to immobilize the coil on a drive member provided with corresponding projections, and making
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
part of a spinning machine. This organ has not been shown in the accompanying figures.
It is obvious that the material constituting the perforated support 5 need not necessarily be stainless, provided that it does not deteriorate either as a result of the bleaching operations, or during the dyeing which may possibly follow the bleaching.
The actual reel can be made of wood, as used for ordinary reels, but it would be just as easy to build it in a manner analogous to that of the support.
It is easily understood that the method according to the invention, which has been described in its essential characteristics in the preamble of the present application, can easily be carried out by means of a coil as described above.
Indeed, during the operations of the preparation of the wick, the latter can be wound around the support 5 which is held around the core 1 and between the flanges 2 and 3.
After preparing the wick, the flanges 2 and 3 can be removed from the support 5; to do this, it suffices to unscrew the flange 2 from the core 1 and remove the support 5 with the drill bit wound around the latter. The support 5 with the rolled-up wick can then be used without further ado in the actual bleaching installation. This installation comprises, for example, a container 9 (FIG. 3) with a double bottom. The upper bottom 10 has a series of orifices 11 in which members 12 are fixed hereinafter referred to as swords. It is, however, understood that the orifices 11 are not completely blocked by these swords 12. The liquid used for bleaching or, where appropriate, for dyeing, can therefore pass through the orifices 11.
A pump 13 inserted in a pipe 14 connected to the container 9, on the one hand to
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
a place 15 located above the upper bottom 10, on the other hand at a place 16 located below this bottom 10, circulates the liquid used for bleaching or for dyeing.
The swords 12 have three fins 17 forming between them angles 18.
The fins 17 have projections 19 which can carry an element 20. The element 20, which is slipped on the sword 12, has an axial channel; ends, the channel has a diameter equal to the outside diameter of the supports 5, but in the middle the diameter of the channel is smaller than the outside diameter of the supports. The element 20 therefore has a rim 21 inside the channel. When this rim 21 rests on the projections 19, the element 20 rests with its lower surface on the upper base 10.
The brackets 5 can be threaded on the swords 12.
Between two successive supports threaded on the same sword, an element 20 is placed.
It should be noted (fig. 4) that the adjacent ends of two successive supports 5 are surrounded by the same element 20. This element closes the orifices such as 22, which are present in the supports 5.
The treatment liquid passes through the orifices 11, provided in the upper bottom 10 of the container 9, and then between the swords 12 and the elements 20 and supports 5 which surround these swords. The liquid can however pass through the perforated supports and the wicks wound on these supports. These wicks are therefore impregnated with liquid.
The elements 20 surround the supports 5 at the places where the latter are not surrounded by wicks. It is in fact necessary for the orifices which are present at the ends of the supports, such as 22, to be closed so that the liquid does not escape through these orifices.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
The liquid circuit is completed by the pump 13 and the pipe 14.
After the locks have undergone bleaching and optionally dyeing, both operations being carried out by immersion, the support 5 is again placed around the core 1 of the coil and the support is immobilized between the strands. flanges 2 and 3. The support being immobilized in relation to the spool, the latter can be used in a spinning machine.
It should be noted that the spools: and installation according to the invention make it possible to bleach without any difficulty flax wicks and similar fibers before their spinning. On the other hand, the process according to the invention overcomes all the drawbacks of the known processes for bleaching and dyeing locks before spinning. Indeed, these known methods have given only mediocre results. According to these methods, the wick spun on normal spools must be rewound on special spools required for bleaching. This rewinding constitutes a difficult operation having the serious drawback of making the bit spotty. The yarn obtained from such a wick is therefore defective.
It is of course possible to replace the spinning spools currently in use with new spools suitable for bleaching machines. Such a solution would however entail the modification of the spinning equipment and also the transformation of the current equipment used for bleaching.
The coil described above is obviously only one embodiment mentioned by way of example.
According to another embodiment, the core 1 of the coil can be eliminated and the support 5 can form the core. For this purpose, it suffices to provide means for immobilizing the support relative to the flanges. In the latter form, a brooch of
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
the spinning machine can be introduced into the perforations 4 of the flanges 2 and 3.
On the other hand, it is obvious that the support 5 can have a shape quite different from that presented, provided that it is perforated and allows the fibers to be wound up. This support can, for example, be formed of a metallic wire wound in the form of a helix and of a second metallic wire wound around two turns of the wire mentioned in the first place.
Finally, it must be understood that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment described above, and that many modifications can be made to it, in particular as regards the form, the constitution, the number and available to the elements involved in its realization, provided that these changes are compatible with the spirit of the claims set out below.
