" Meuble-canapé transformable en divan-lit "
L'invention concerne un meuble-canapé transformable en divan- lit et inversement.
On connaît des meubles de ce genre dans lesquels la trans- . formation du canapé en divan-lit s'opère par un basculement en arrière du coussin formant le dossier du canapé, le coussin de siège restant immobile.
Comme les meubles-canapés sont, en général, disposes contre un mur, la transformation en divan-lit d'un meuble-canapé du genre défini ci-dessus, exige un déplacement préalable du meuble, afin de l'écarter suffisaient du mur pour permettre le basculement en arrière, du dossier, ainsi que la mise en place des draps et cou- vertures. De tels meubles étant relativement lourds et de grandes dimensions, leur déplacement constitue une opération très fati- guante lorsque celle-ci est effectuée par une seule personne.
En outre, en plus de la nécessité de tirer le meuble vers l'avant, il est souvent encore nécessaire de déplacer également d'autres

meubles, situés dans le voisinage immédiat du canapé, pour -pouvoir accéder derrière le dossier,pour le déverrouillage de celui-ci.
La présente invention a pour objet un meuble-canapé trans- formable en divan-lit et inversement, sans nécessiter un déplace- ment quelconque de la carcasse de ce meuble, cette transformation ne requérant qu'un minimum d'effort musculaire de la part de la personne qui l'effectue.
Dans ce but et suivant l'invention, le siège du canapé est monté à coulissement dans la carcasse du meuble, de façon à pou- voir faire glisser le coussin de siège en même temps que le coussin de dossier rabattu sur lui,vers l'avant du meuble, de la quantité nécessaire pour former entre le dit siège et le fond du meuble, un espace suffisant pour permettre le rabattement, dans cet espace, d'un panneau constituant normalement la paroi de fond du meuble et destiné à former, après rabattement, un support pour le coussin de dossier, après que ce dernier a été basculé en arrière, les dits coussins de siège et de dossier étant réunis entre eux par couture ou autre moyen de réunion appropriée
A simple titre d'exemple, une forme d'exécution préférée de l'objet de l'invention se trouve décrite ci-après, avec réfé- rence aux dessins schématiques annexés,

Fig. 1 est une vue de profil, en coupe partielle, du meuble, les coussins de siège et de dossier de celui-ci se trouvant dans leur position d'utilisation comme canapé; Fig. 2 est une vue similaire montrant le déplacement du coussin de siège en même temps que du coussin de dossier, en vue de la transformation du meuble en divan-lit;
Fig. 3 est une vue similaire montrant le meuble suivant Fig. 1, transformé en lit.
Comme montré dans ces Figs., le meuble transformable suivant l'invention est formé de deux manchettes 5 réunies entre elles à l'arrière, par des traverses 6 et 7.

A la partie inférieure de la face intérieure de chacune des deux mancnettes 5 est appliquée une console longitudinale 8 formant appui pour le châssis 9 sur lequel est fixé le coussin de siège 10. Ce dernier est réuni au coussin de dossier 11 par une-couture pratiquée en 12 tout le long des bords supérieurs contigus de ces deux coussins, ou par tout autre moyen de réunion approprié.
Lorsque le meuble est utilisé comme canapé, et comme le montre la Fig. 1, le coussin de dossier 11 s'appuie librement contre un panneau 13 s'étendant sur toute la largeur du canapé, le dit panneau étant appuyé lui-même contre la traverse 6 et réuni à charnière en 14, aux consoles fixes 8.
Pour convertir le meuble en lit, on rabat, dans le sens montré par la flèche x, le coussin de dossier 11 sur le coussin ae siège10,pour lui faire occuper la position montrée en traits mixtes dans cette même Fig. Les deux coussins superposés sont ensuite, comme le montre la Fig. 2. tirés vers l'avant par glis- sement du châssis 9 sur les consoles 8. Une butée 15 est prévue sur les consoles 8 pour limiter le déplacement vers l'avant du châssis 9. Ce dernier est muni de pattes rabattables 16 destinées à le supporter dans cette position avancée. On fait basculer ensuite, dans le sens de la flèche y, le panneau 13 sur les consoles 8, de façon à lui faire occuper la position montrée en traits pleins.
Dès ce moment, le coussin de dossier 11 est basculé en arrière dans le sens de la flèche pour lui faire venir occuper la position montrée en Fig. 3.
On comprend que l'opération inverse pourra s'effectuer avec la même facilité, c'est-à-dire par rabattement du coussin 11 sur le coussin 10 et relèvement du panneau 13, suivis de la remise en place du châssis 9 dans la position montrée en Fig. 1 et du relèvement du coussin 11 pour lui faire reprendre sa position de dossier. Il est à remarquer que cette disposition des coussins

a pour effet de ménager un espace 17 pour le logement des draps et couvertures.
On notera également que le système décrit et représenté permet de réduire au minimum le poids des éléments à déplacer par la force musculaire, ce qui ne serait pas le cas si le coussin de dossier 11 serait également monté sur un châssis de base comme le coussin 10.
L'effort nécessaire pour déplacer l'ensemble formé par le châssis 9 et les deux coussins 10 et 11, superposés pour les be- soins de la transformation, pourra d'ailleurs encore être considé- rablement diminué en munissant la face inférieure du châssis de supports à billes, tels qu'on en trouve dans le commerce, afin de permettre un déplacement par roulement du dit châssis sur les consoles 8. En outre, en vue de l'allègement des élé- ments à manipuler, le panneau 13 est avantageusement établi sous forme d'un châssis recouvert d'une mince couche de bois contre- plaqué, bien qu'il pourra également être constitué par un lattis, un treillis métallique ou analogue.

To the lower part of the inner face of each of the two legs 5 is applied a longitudinal console 8 forming a support for the frame 9 on which is fixed the seat cushion 10. The latter is joined to the back cushion 11 by a seam made. at 12 all along the contiguous upper edges of these two cushions, or by any other suitable joining means.
When the furniture is used as a sofa, and as shown in Fig. 1, the back cushion 11 rests freely against a panel 13 extending over the entire width of the sofa, the said panel itself being pressed against the cross member 6 and joined hinged at 14, to the fixed consoles 8.
To convert the piece of furniture into a bed, the back cushion 11 is folded down in the direction shown by the arrow x on the seat cushion 10, so that it occupies the position shown in phantom in this same FIG. The two superimposed cushions are then, as shown in Fig. 2. pulled forward by sliding the frame 9 onto the consoles 8. A stop 15 is provided on the consoles 8 to limit the forward movement of the frame 9. The latter is provided with folding tabs 16 intended for support it in this forward position. The panel 13 is then tilted in the direction of the arrow y on the consoles 8, so as to make it occupy the position shown in solid lines.
From this moment, the back cushion 11 is tilted back in the direction of the arrow to make it occupy the position shown in FIG. 3.
It will be understood that the reverse operation can be carried out with the same ease, that is to say by folding back the cushion 11 on the cushion 10 and raising the panel 13, followed by replacing the frame 9 in the position. shown in Fig. 1 and the raising of the cushion 11 to make it resume its backrest position. In addition, with a view to lightening the elements to be handled, the panel 13 is advantageously established in the form of a frame covered with a thin layer of plywood, although it could also be made of lath, wire mesh or the like.
