<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

" Speed reducer ".
The subject of the invention is an original mechanical speed reduction device in that it is at the same time simple, compact, robust, irreversible and with a very high speed ratio.
This device is characterized, substantially, by the fact that it comprises a single toothed pinion rotating in a satellite at the same time in two rings comprising an unequal number of teeth, one of these two rings being mounted on the output shaft and driven by said satellite, the second ring gear being non-rotating, but subjected to a corrective movement whose law is such that said ring gear always remains in engagement with said satellite. The latter is for example mounted
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
on an eccentric section of the input shaft or motor shaft of the reduction device. The non-rotating crown has a pitch diameter and also a number of teeth greater than those of the driven crown.
The complementary movement of the non-rotating crown can be a rectilinear or complex movement. This movement may result from a desmodromic command, an elastic reaction or any other means.
This speed reduction device is enclosed in a housing which can be perfectly sealed and therefore be fitted out as an oil bath, grease box, or be equipped with any means of lubrication.
The casing is conditioned to be adequately fixed or so as to be able to be released, for example from the action of fixing jaws, with a view to making the device reversible according to the requirements of the applications.
By way of explanation, without any limiting nature on either the embodiment or the applications of the device of the invention, the latter is described in more detail below and shown diagrammatically in the appended drawings in which: FIGS. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 very briefly show different mechanical combinations of the same speed reduction device, object of the invention.
FIG. 6 is a conventional perspective view with partial section of a combination of the order of FIG. 1.
FIG. 7 is a longitudinal radial section of a summary embodiment of the combination of the order of FIGS. 1 and 6.
Figure 8 is a cross section along the line VIII-VIII of Figure 7.
According to the mechanical combination of figures 1, 6, 7 and 8
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the speed reducer consists, in substance, of the motor shaft or input shaft .1 rotating around the axis A-B and having two eccentric sections 2-3. On the first eccentric, relatively large, is mounted a toothed pinion 4 via a friction nozzle 5; on the second, relatively small eccentric, is mounted, by means of a friction nozzle 6, a first ring gear 7.
This has a radial slot 8 in which is engaged a lug $ preventing said crown from rotating while nevertheless leaving it a certain freedom of movement. Opposite the first ring 2 is disposed a second ring 10 wedged on the output shaft or driven shaft 11, the aforesaid axis A-B is also the axis of rotation.
The toothed ring gear 2 has a pitch diameter D and a number of teeth N greater than the pitch diameter d and the number of teeth n of the second ring gear 10. However, these two rings are mounted so as to mesh, both, at the same time, with the satellite pinion 4. To achieve this condition, given that the pitch diameter of the ring gear 2 is greater than that of the ring gear 10, it will be necessary to give said ring gear 2 a variable corrective displacement in proportion to the position of the satellite 4. This corrective displacement is, in this case, produced by the cooperation of the eccentric 3, the light 8 and the lug 9.
Indeed, the operation of this speed reducer is understood as follows: the motor shaft 1 drives the satellite 4 which rotates both in the two rings 2 and 10. As the ring 10 is prevented from turning by the lug 2 , said satellite 4 is positively driven in a cyclofdal movement and drives to
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
in turn the crown 10 and, consequently, the output shaft 11 of the reducer. At the same time, the first ring gear 2 is moved by its eccentric $ and guided by the lug 2 so that it undergoes a small predetermined movement in order to maintain its permanent engagement with the satellite pinion 4.
Therefore, if we consider that the number of teeth Nn respectively of crowns 2 and 10 are 41 and 40, a complete revolution of the motor axis will cause a rotation of the output axis 11 equal to one tooth, i.e. 1 / 40 th turn. The speed ratio between the input and output shafts of the reducer will therefore be 1:40. It is possible to achieve practically any ratio and more especially surprisingly high ratios.
This speed reduction device is irreversible * In fact, any torque directly applied to the output shaft will systematically cause the satellite pinion to be wedged} between its eccentric axis 2 and the non-rotating ring gear 2.
The element of originality of this reducer is therefore mainly found, apart from its general design, in the complementary or corrective movement of the crown 7. This movement can be achieved in many ways, the choice of which will also depend on the envisaged applications.
FIG. 2 very briefly shows a variant of a means for generating this movement by the combination of cams 12 and a return spring '13; Figure 3 provides for the use of a positively controlled balance 14; Figure 4 introduces the application of a small piston 15 capable of being arranged in the form of a small pump and, finally, Figure 5 reduces the means for generating said corrective movement to a simple elastic reaction, for example to the 'intervention of elastic elements 16.
We can obviously consider any other means to achieve the same effects.
The invention also extends to the device as it is
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
than such a reduction device combined with any training device and any generally any driven device.
Finally, the invention also extends to any embodiment in the form of a speed reducer provided that it comprises such a reduction device, the main subject of the invention.
