<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
La figure 1 est une vue détaillée d'une extrémité d'un fer à souder fabriqué suivant la présente invention;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Improvements made or relating to electric soldering irons, soldering devices or soldering devices.
The present invention relates to electric soldering irons, soldering devices or similar devices of the type comprising a support with devices intended to fix the working parts to this support, such as the copper to be soldered or the electrode of welding, so that this part is easily replaced by another of a different shape, or else renewable or else so that its position can be adjusted.
Considering the high temperatures and temperature changes to which such supports and such working parts are normally subjected, the rough handling which such tools are forced to withstand, and the low price the user is willing to pay, any fastening device intended to fasten the copper or the electrode must be simple and its handling must be easily understood by a worker who, although accustomed to the use of a
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
such tool is not necessarily a mechanic capable of using and appreciating a new fastening device.
For this purpose the usual fastening constructions are such that one part has been formed in or provided with a socket and the other part has been provided with a complementary stud-shaped end, and they constitute certain simple clamping devices. by screw, such as a screw located in a threaded opening in the socket part, so that the end of such screw can be tightened around the side of the inner stud-shaped part.
The main drawbacks of such a fastening construction are that the screw which is screwed into the threaded opening wears out quickly or works easily, which puts the tool out of operation until it stops. it is repaired, whereas a screwdriver, olef, or some special tool is needed to loosen or tighten the screw unless it has a relatively large head so that it forms a projection which quickly prevents the free use of the tool in confined spaces. In such cases the use of the tool results in wasted time and reduces the usable efficiency of the tool.
The object of the present invention is an improved device intended to hold the working part which, while being of simple construction, eliminates the drawbacks mentioned above.
According to the present invention a fastening device for fastening the working part of a soldering iron, a soldering apparatus or a similar device to a support, and in which said working part fits in its support according to an engagement complementary with stud and sleeve of cylindrical cross sections, characterized in that the sleeve is provided with a cylindrical end surface close to
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
and eccentric with respect to the inlet opening of the socket, and by a collar fitting to said surface and having a corresponding eccentricity opening, said collar being rotatable to bring its opening into alignment with the socket to release any stud located in the opening or socket,
or alternatively being rotatable on said surface to move away from such a position such that said opening is no longer in alignment with the socket so as to attach and hold any stud in the socket.
Said collar may not be attached or fixed to any part excepted by frictional engagement when tightened to secure the working part.
In the annexed dassin:
Figure 1 is a detailed view of one end of a soldering iron made in accordance with the present invention;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of Figure 1.
Figures 3 and 4 are partial detail views showing some modifications.
In the embodiment of the present invention shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings a soldering iron has an electrically heated head. At the end of this head is a sleeve b intended to receive the rear end in the form of a cylindrical bar or rod .0. of a copper d .. At the end of the socket the head is provided with a cylindrical annular edge e eccentric with respect to the socket, and to complete the construction we find a completely detached collar having a base disc-shaped! with an eylindrical flange g intended to reopen the aforementioned annular edge and having at its base an opening h of the same size as the sleeve and of the same eccentricity. The disc-shaped base of the collar fits over the end of the socket.
During use, the collar can be turned on edge e to a position so that its opening to is aligned.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
ing with the socket b, and then the copper rod can be introduced through the opening of the collar in the socket. Then the collar can be turned on the edge and by this action its opening will be put out of alignment with the socket so that it will be tight both on the edge and on the rod of the copper. The outer periphery of the collar is knurled to provide an especially good grip.
In order to indicate in which direction to turn the collar to release the hole, the collar is provided with a smooth surface
1 on its knurled periphery, on which is engraved an index line J, which forms the complement of an index line j 'on the sleeve, the lines being arranged so as to coincide when the collar is in the socket. loose position
Assuming that the collar is in the locked position, it will be tight, but by a slight rotation, which can easily be provided by a finger and the pouae, it will easily be found by which direction of rotation it will be released. When the collar is released, the copper will be free and can be removed and replaced with another, or adjusted to be put back in place.
A slight rotation of the collar in either direction will bring the collar to a position where it meets some resistance. The rotational force which is then applied to the collar will tighten it and simultaneously fix the copper and the collar.
Of course, the same construction can be used to maintain a weld electrode or rod while making modifications without departing from the scope of the present invention. For example, as shown in Figure 3, instead of the collar having an eccentric flange fitting over an eccentric edge on the sleeve, the collar k has an eccentric protuberance k 'fitting into an eccentric recess in the sleeve m .
Although it is preferable, to have a collar completely
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
free and detached from both the socket and the copper when not in the locked position, it may be desirable to keep the collar captive, as shown in Figure 4, where a similar collar n to that shown in Figures 1 and 2 has a rivet c the inner end of which is normally engaged in an annular groove p 'in the edge p of the sleeve. An entry groove p2 allows the collar to be removed if desired, but it is placed so as to be diametrically opposed to the rivet in the normal or "free" position of the collar.
Thus the collar cannot accidentally leave the end of the sleeve because as long as a copper is in the sleeve the eccentricity of the parts is such that the collar cannot be turned to bring the rivet. in register with the entry groove.
