<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

Motor vehicle.
The present invention relates to a new type of motor vehicle, the principle of which, while being of general application, is particularly advantageous in its application to a military tractor or to a combat tank of a new type. The vehicle may be used on land, or may be set up so as to have sufficient own buoyancy to enable it to stand on water ;, while still being able to be propelled therein.
Some of the advantages of the invention can be listed as follows:
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Since the tank is armored in a uniform manner and with a minimum of articulations, it does not have particularly vulnerable parts. When tilted onto its side, it automatically returns to its normal upright position. It can be tilted or swiveled in a small area; which ensures a large firing range with a second weapon.
The steering to the right or to the left can be made at such a sharp angle that the vehicle can turn as short as the branch one way around the other branch. Therefore; the tank can turn and reverse when it is in a narrow path with no exit or where a concentration of higher enemy forces occurs. The tank is easy to maneuver, so that the driver can also act as a gunner (gunner or machine gunner). The sphericity of the surfaces increases resistance to destruction and deflects projectiles.
The side parts being hemispherical, the vehicle instantly returns to its normal position in the event of a lateral rollover, the vehicle's center of gravity being located lower than the center of its height. The hemispheroidal side parts are provided with ribs or mud beads , which are used to improve traction when the tank is driven in mud, snow or sand. These ribs, which run from the tread to the top of each of the hemispheroidal parts, allow the tank to exit a trench, while no other known vehicle has traction members on the side.
The design of this vehicle is such that the number of elements used in its construction is extremely small, so that these elements are 'more robust and resist destruction better. moreover, this vehicle will move on muddy ground, whereas a usual tank would be stuck and immobilized.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In summary, the tank according to the invention comprises an armored chamber which carries the engine, the crew and the weapons.
This chamber is located between two wheels whose outer parts are hemispheroidal. The center of gravity of the chamber is located below the center of the sphere, so the chariot always tends to straighten up when it rolls over sideways. In. variant of the invention, two crutches are attached to the armored chamber, one of which is at the front and rests on the ground when descending, while the other is at the rear and leans on the ground during a climb. A variant of the invention employs a single crutch wheel.
The invention will be better understood with the aid of the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of an embodiment of the vehicle.

The body 1 rises in fig. 1 is generally spheroidal and is established in three parts 2, 3 and 6, the parts 2 and 3 rotating like wheels with respect to the body 6. Parts 2 and 3 are provided on the outside t surrounded by a tread 4 and ribs 5 which can act as crampons or bulges for mud on land and as blades in water. The space between the two hemispheres is closed by the body or passenger compartment 6, provided with a skylight 7.
To the body 6 are fixed the :: crutches 8 at the front and 14 at the rear, serving respectively for the descent or the ascent on an inclined plane. Retort shown ¯ in fig. 2; the hemispheroids can be hollow and closed by the plate 9, so as to ensure the buoyancy of the vehicle on the water. The hollow part can be divided into watertight compartments.
The propulsion of the vehicle can be carried out by means of a reduction mechanism as shown in figs. 2 and 3, where a motor M mounted inside the body 6 controls, through the differential 10, the gears II, 12 and 13, the latter being wedged on the shaft 14 carried by the flange 9 which is in turn secured to the hemispheroidal elements 2 and 3.
The rear stand wheel 14, which rests on the ground when climbing, prevents, when it touches the ground, the rotation of the body 6 around the axle, the platform 15 no longer being horizontal at this time. The motor and the gears are supported by the frame 15a of the body 5, this frame being pivotally suspended on the rockets 14x.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
In the embodiment according to fig. 4, the transmission from the differential can be effected by means of chains and gears 16, 17, 17a and 18, the latter being wedged on the axle. 14x. The front wheel stand 19 may be provided with a spring damper 19a. When the weapon 20 (fig. 1) fires, the platform tends to rotate around the axle in the anti-clockwise direction. so that in the assembly shown, this tendency to rotate is absorbed. The front wheel stand can be removable. It can also be lowered at will to allow partial rotation of the cockpit, so that the weapon can be pointed upwards.
As shown in fig. 5 and 6, there is provided on the outside and 3a and around each element 2a / a rubber tread 4a, while these elements are provided internally with toothed rings 5a and 6a. The two hemispheroids are united by a shaft 7a around which they can rotate independently. The space between the two hemispheroids can be closed by a metal plate 8a supported by the frame 10a and which can be pierced with a skylight 9a.
As shown in Figs. 6 and 7, the frame 10a is provided with driving pinions 11a and 12a, the latter being controlled in the usual way by the transmission shaft 12b coming from a motor M and by the usual differential of which only the housing 13a is shown. The gears 11a and 12a of the frame mesh with the toothed rings 5a and 6a, as well as the stabilization or safety gears 14a supported by the frame 15a mounted on the frame. A seat 16a can be provided for the occupant.
It will be understood that the two hemispherical elements 2a and Sa turn independently of one another around the shaft 7a.
To steer the vehicle, the motor shaft brake is applied on one side of the differential (fig. 7) so that the other continues to rotate, as does the corresponding hemisphere, thus allowing a very low angle. turning point. Various steering mechanisms can be used for this purpose. Like my-
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
In FIG. 7, brake drums 17a and 18a can be mounted on the rear axle of the chassis to be controlled by independent brake pedals 19a and 20a connected to the brakes by rods 21a.
Instead of pedals, a steering wheel 22a, Fig. 8, which can turn right and left to apply the right or left brakes respectively, can be used to control the brakes, the movement being transmitted by the rods 23a. provided on each side and articulated to the steering lever 24a.
In the variant according to FIG. 9 the habitacla is equipped only with a crutch wheel 14 for a shock absorber 14s. The latter can be constituted by a pneumatic chamber 14t in which the piston l4u moves.
When this vehicle is used as a one-person battle tank, the weapon 20 can be mounted in the habitat 6 using the universal joint 20u.
In the variant according to FIG. 10 'the wheels 2 and 3 are not perfectly spheroidal, the ribs 5 having parallel sections 5a. An oval-shaped tank overturned on the side even more easily resumes its normal position, while the parallel ribs 5a provide better traction than in the variant according to FIG. 1.
In the variant according to FIG. 11, the vehicle is propelled and steered using a hydraulic transmission.
The engine M is carried by the passenger compartment 6, while the hydraulic transmission 31 is mounted on the crankshaft 30.
This transmission comprises a part 32 which cooperates with the adjacent part 33. Two brakes 34, one on each side; can be controlled independently to slow down or immobilize part 33, thereby delaying or immobilizing the adjacent wheel 35, allowing the vehicle to be steered.
This construction eliminates the need for differentials and gearboxes. We can imagine that other brakes little, - @
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
wind can be used to stop or slow the movement of the vehicle. This arrangement can be used in the construction of an automobile or a simplified battle tank.
In the variant according to FIG. 12, the usual members are provided, namely the motor M, the control gears 11, 12, 13 and 14, the driving wheels 3 and 3 and, in addition, the platform .36 to auto -rightening is pivotally suspended from frame 37 for stabilization.
In the variant according to FIG. 13, a stabilizing gyroscope 40 is mounted on the platform 15 of the cockpit 6. During the rotation of the wheels 2 and 3, the cockpit 6 tends to rotate around the axle. This can be prevented by the use of crutches or a giroscope. These two different devices can be used separately or in combination.
For steering, it is also possible to provide for a wheel carried by an arm which projects between the spaced hemispheres, to be rotated by the deflection wheel.
