<EMI ID=2.1>
Date of filing of the patent application in FRANCE:
The present invention relates to a mechanical pencil characterized by a pencil-shaped tube comprising a notch or transverse notch forming a slide in a ring through which the lead passes, this ring being pushed by a. spring so as to pinch the lead against the inner wall of the tube and block it, the unlocking of the lead being obtained by pushing the ring in its slide to compress the counter spring.
The appended drawings show schematically, by way of non-limiting example, one embodiment of the invention.
Figures 1 and 2 show two views of the mechanical pencil which has been given a hexagonal section.
FIG. 3 shows on a large scale a partial longitudinal section of the mechanical pencil. <EMI ID = 1.1> figure 3.
In the drawings, we see at 1 the body of the mechanical pencil which has been given the usual shape of a sharp pencil with a hexagonal section.
This body can be of cast metal or of wood or any other cast material. It comprises along its longitudinal axis a rectilinear channel 2 in which the mine 3 is placed and whose section is a little greater than that of the mines used.
Perpendicular to this longitudinal axis is arranged a cylindrical cavity 4, the edge of which has a threaded part 5. In this cavity 4 can slide a cylindrical part 6, one end 7 of which is turned off to form a button 8 which passes through a ring-shaped nut 9 screwed into the thread 5; the thickness = of this nut is less than the length of the neckline part 7 so that the button 8 protrudes on the outer surface
<EMI ID = 2.1>
of the cavity and tends to press it against the nut 9. The part 6 is drilled perpendicular to its longitudinal axis with a channel
11 with a section a little larger than that of the leads to be used in the mechanical pencil. the section of the channel 11 may be circular or square depending on whether the leads used are of round or square section, but it may advantageously be oval or elliptical or formed by two semi-circles joined by a rectangular part, as in the example shown in Figure 4, to maintain the circular section mine 3 over a larger area.
It can be seen that the lead 3 placed in the channel 2 of the mechanical pencil and passing through the part 6 is blocked by the latter when the spring
10 relaxes. To unlock it, press button 8 and slightly compress spring 10, the mine can then slide into channel 2.
The interior of channel 11 reserved in part 6 can be grooved to further block mine 3.
The mechanical pencil can advantageously be provided with a clip 12.
There is thus a mechanical pencil of economical construction, not comprising any complicated mechanism and which allows instantaneous locking or unlocking of the lead by pressing a single finger.
This device for locking and unlocking the lead makes it possible to produce mechanical pencils with two uses either for two colors or for two degrees of lead hardness.
