<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
l'enroulement.
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

IMPROVEMENTS CONCERNING A PROCESS AND DEVICES FOR MANUFACTURING ARTICLES FROM MATERIAL IN COIL SHEETS
OR 'COILS.
The object of the present invention is to provide a method for winding chopsticks or other articles with a sheet material. The subject of the invention is also a machine for carrying out the method and a core serving for winding the material into sheets.
The object of the invention is to implement devices which allow mass production of rods made from sheet material such as, for example, rods for skiing or other articles. As sheets for the manufacture of such articles, one can use artificial fiber products, paper or preferably according to the present invention thin sheets of pressed wood.
By rolling up this kind of leaves in chopsticks it is very
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
important to ensure a smooth and secure contact between each separate part of the sheet as well as with each separate part and other parts with which the sheet comes in contact so as to ensure complete adhesion of the glue used to hold the sheets together. different layers together.
It is also important for the production of this kind of rods to have a core inside the rod, either a core that can be removed when the rod is finished or a core formed for example in the form of small - the parts that remain inside the wand as reinforcement pegs after the wand is completed.
The invention especially claims a suitable form of core of the latter type.
It is further important in carrying out the method to prevent the coiled rod from unwinding in any way when it is removed from the coiling machine and at the same time it is important to remove the rod as quickly as of the machine in order to allow the latter to be used immediately for the manufacture of a new rod.
The invention therefore comprises a device for the solution of this problem. According to the invention, the winding of the sheet is used in a weighted curtain which is led into an opening between two rotating rollers which has. whereby the winding is done in such a way that the core is placed in said opening and the sheet is guided thereto, whereupon the two rollers are brought closely against each other and rotated so that the sheet is pressed into the opening and wound around the core at this point. As the size of the rod gradually increases, it will push itself from the curtain into the opening while constantly being subjected to radial pressure on all sides.
As soon as the winding of the rod is finished, the curtain having completed its function can be used for the manufacture of a new rod; however, since the glue takes some time to adhere the parts, the wand cannot be removed for a certain period of time.
In order to avoid the resulting loss of time, the method according to the invention comprises, inter alia, a rope which is guided between the curtains and wound around the strip while it remains under pressure in the curtain.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
in a clamping device extending over the entire length of the rod.
The machine can be constructed in such a way that it ensures a fully automatic operation, thanks to the placement of a reel on which the rope is placed so that it can slide in the axial direction of the machine and by means of a device of adequate clamping directed axially when the machine turns, which has the effect that the rope will be wound around the rod following the movement of a screw.
The method and the machine according to the invention are independent of any particular kind of core for winding the rod. A metal core can be used, the latter being able to be removed when the rod is finished or even a core made up of a certain number of small pins or reinforcing rings, these can be used. be spaced from each other and form ribs inside the rod.
This will go a long way to strengthening the wand without increasing the weight of it.
According to the present invention, it is possible to use cores provided with a notch in such a way that it is possible at this location to temporarily fix the axial edge of the sheet before inserting it into the winding machine.
Certain difficulties occur during the engagement of the pressed wood sheet in known winding machines and during the preliminary phase of winding the pressed wood sheet around the core, also certain difficulties may be encountered, for the Attachment of the terminal edge of the sheet after winding it on the core or in the winding machine.
The present invention further and inter alia provides a method for eliminating said difficulties.
At the same time it presents a practical device to prevent the pressed wooden sheet from cracking during the winding operation around the core.
In addition, according to known manufacturing methods, the material is used in its natural form, which often has the disadvantage that the pressed wooden sheets split during the winding operation, since they are not flexible enough to withstand without damage the excessive stress to which
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
they are exposed to obtain a rigid product.
For this reason, it is important in the production of rods or tubes according to the present invention that the material be as thin as possible so that the winding can take place easily, and in view of this circumstance it is necessary. It has been found difficult to wind articles of pressed wood in this manner.
According to another characteristic of the present invention, this problem has been solved in a simple manner by subjecting the base material used to a rolling operation, which has the effect of reducing the thickness thereof.
In order to make the invention clearly understandable, several embodiments thereof are described below on the basis of the appended drawing.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 schematic top view shows the main parts of the machine, object of the invention; Figure 2 shows a side view of the same parts; Figure 3 shows the final rolled-up wand; Figure 4 shows an end view, on a considerably enlarged scale, of a core with an uncoiled sheet; Figure 5 shows an end view of a rod after the end of winding; Figure 6 shows an edge of the sheet with several parts of the core placed in the exact position before winding and Figure 7 shows a part of the sheet with strips of paper stuck to it.
In Figures I and 2, 1 and 2 show two rollers intended to rotate in opposite directions and which can be moved in the horizontal plane forward and backward towards each other.
3 represents a heavy cylinder which can be loaded strongly and resting in the lower corner of a curtain ¯4 which passes over rollers I and 2, being guided downward between these two rollers in an opening 2.
6 represents the. sheet used for winding the stick and 7 is the core around which the sheet is to be wound.
In Figures 1 and 2 there is shown the position in which the different parts will be placed, when the core and sheet have been put in place to begin the operation of
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
winding. Starting the winding, the rollers I and 2 are brought together and set in motion in the direction indicated by arrows 8 and 2.
The curtain ± will then pull the sheet 6. downwards, this will wind itself around the core 7 and if the sheet 6 has been provided with a suitable adhesive substance, a strip will be formed.
On the side of the rollers I and 2 is arranged a shaft 10 provided with a screw thread II and a shaft 12 forming a support for a coil of rope 13, the latter having a guide 14 which rests on the shaft 10 between the threads II. - A rope 15 is directed downwards from the spool between rollers I and 2 and at the moment of the next rotation of the machine, the spool will move in the left-right direction; at the same time the rope 15 will be wrapped around the finished rod 16 as shown in Figure 3.
As soon as the rope has been wound around the rod, it can be removed from the machine and started to wrap a new rod.
Fig. 4 shows a construction of a core 71. This core is made of small and short pieces and is provided with an axial notch 17 for receiving the coupon 18 of the sheet 6 before the start of winding.
During the winding operation the sheet will curl and wind itself around the core 71 as shown in figure 5.
The short pieces of the core form reinforcing ribs inside the rod, the said ribs having the purpose of reinforcing the strength and elasticity of the rod.
According to Figure 7, a pressed wood sheet Ia is provided along the two longitudinal edges with glued paper ribbons 2a. One or both ribbons may have on their base a sticky part 3a.
In addition, suitable paper strips 4a can be placed transversely to the pressed wood sheet which are intended to prevent undesirable breaks of the pressed wood sheet in the direction of the fibers.
When this sheet of pressed wood is used to wind it into a stick one of the paper edges 2a is pulled in the winding machine or is pushed around the core in some other way. When the whole leaf Ia
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
has been wrapped around the core, the other edge of the @paper tape will be used. to complete the winding operation and the sticky end 3a can be used for the preliminary fixing of the paper tape in such a way. Coiled wand keeps its shape until the glue is dry.
According to another method according to the invention it is also possible to use coiled pressed wood for the manufacture of several other articles where it was previously not possible to manufacture in this branch, since 'it has been shown that the base material (including 7¯' enlargement by covering or gluing several parts is very limited for practical reasons, particularly as regards the.
length) can be extended in a much more sensitive way to an extent of, for example, up to four meters and that by gluing together several layers it can be given such strength that these coiled sheets can be used for the manufacture of pipes, for example pipes for water conduction.
The process for this part of the method is as follows: After having joined several sheets of pressed wood by overlapping and possibly by gluing different layers, these pressed wood panels are directed through a laminate which pushes the stretching to to such a degree that it completely eliminates any roughness caused by overlap.
This semi-finished product can then be used for winding pipes or other items.
It has been shown by tests that it is possible, for example, to take two pieces of pressed wood each 0.8 mm thick, place them one on top of the other and glue them together, after which this double sheet of pressed wood which may have been glued either crosswise or otherwise with respect to the fibers of the two pieces placed at a certain angle is fed through a rolling mill or the thickness of the. sheet made of pressed wood reduced from about 1.6 mm to about 1 mm; even for very small objects such as ski sticks etc. it is possible to use a material having a thickness of I mm for
EMI6.1
1. ' roll up.
Having described and established the nature of the Invention and the manner in which it is to be performed, I declare that my claims are as follows:
