APPAREIL A SOUDER A CHAUFFAGE ELECTRIQUE.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

ELECTRIC HEATING WELDING DEVICE.
The present invention relates to tools for welding by electric heating. ,
An exemplary embodiment will be described below in relation to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a side view of an electrically heated welding apparatus constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a front view of this device and,
Figure 3 is an end view of part of the device, the solder tip holder.
Two conductive arms 11 and 12 project in two parallel directions, one being above the other, a flange 13 located at their rear end. The upper arm 11 penetrates at its end into the steel tip holder 14, said arm being riveted and brazed in the tip holder so as to ensure a good mechanical and electrical connection. The tip holder 14 has roughly the shape of a rectangular block.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
gular disposed in the plane of the ends of the arms and, perpendicular to the latter, an ear 15 being provided in the middle of its upper end to receive the upper conductive arm.
The lower end has a groove 16 extending from one end to the proximity of the other end without however reaching the latter. This groove has the shape of a keyhole when viewed from one end, i.e. it has a lower part with straight walls, extending to the end. lower part of the part, and an upper part of form situated entirely inside the mass of the part.
The soldering tip 17 is made of copper, and in the form of a comb, the rear of which is located in the lower straight-walled portion of the groove 16, the teeth extending downward beyond the lower end of the tip holder. Grub screws 18, are arranged in the front part of the tip holder near its lower end, and are intended to secure the comb.
In the circular upper part of the groove 16 there is a high resistance carbon rod constituting the heating element. The inner end of which the groove 16 is tapered, terminating at an angle of about 60 degrees, in which fits a similarly shaped end of the carbon rod, which in this way is centered exactly at this end, near the outer end of the groove, the latter comprises a slightly larger part 19 in which fits a short sleeve in a substance insulating to heat and electricity,
such as, for example, the substance known by the trade name of "vitroesil" this sleeve having a bore of smaller diameter than that of the notch in which the carbon rod is placed so that the outer end of this rod is also precisely centered. Behind the charcoal rod is a plug 20 which freely engages the groove and the end of which is tapered on the side where it contacts the charcoal.
The second of the two conductive arms, that is to say the lower arm 12 is bent, so that its front end is located
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
above the opening of the channel in the part where it is circular in shape at the end of the purlin holder 14, and has a hole located in the same axis as the channel. This hole serves as a passage for the socket 20 which is fixed by a screw 21, mounted on the end of the arm. two @ The rear ends of the front conducting arms 11 and
12 are connected to the supply wires 22 and 23, this supply preferably being of low voltage, and / of high intensity, and may be constituted for example by a step-down transformer supplied by the mains.
When the current is turned on, the latter passes through a circuit consisting of the upper arm 11, the tip holder 14, the conical part of the end of the carbon rod, through the carbon rod itself, then by the socket 20, and the lower arm 12. The coal having a high electrical resistance will heat up, and the heat will be conducted to the teeth of the comb 17. Except at its ends, the coal rod is not contact either with the tip holder or with the tip, because otherwise, a short-circuit would result. The comb-shaped soldering tip can be constructed so that it can be used for any multiple soldering operation and its shape is chosen to suit the parts to be soldered.
On the other hand, the soldering tip or its end may consist of one or more sets of combs, each comb being heated by a separate carbon electrode.
Thanks to this welding process, the weld such as the flux and the actual weld can be placed on the parts to be welded, and the comb used only for the purpose of heating the part to complete the welding. This can also be applied with the use of solder paste. This process is possible because, with the comb-shaped soldering tip heated by a carbon electrode, the soldering temperature is reached quickly and uniform heat is distributed over the entire length of the comb and maintained during work. .
The tip holder can be used, or adapted for the job

either by hand or with a pedal-operated machine.
Although the present invention has been described in relation to an exemplary embodiment, it is clear that it is in no way limited to said example and that the latter is susceptible of numerous variations and modifications, without depart from the day of the invention.
