<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Method of radiography of internal organs, in particular of the respiratory tract and apparatus for the use of the method,
The present invention relates to a method for radiography of internal organs, in particular of the respiratory tract, consisting in introducing into these organs a fluid making them opaque to X-rays and capable of printing an X-ray plate. the known methods of radiography of the respiratory tracts, the practitioners had until now three methods of investigation: the pure and simple examination, the tomographic examination and the bronchographic examination, To be able to radiograph with clarity the contours of the bronchi, they must be made opaque to X-rays by a deposit of fluid.
The fluid used until now was based on iodine and was introduced into the bronchi by a special device.
This way of proceeding has many drawbacks. First of all, the patient, having the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
affected respiratory tract and consequently hypersensitive, suffers during the introduction of the fluid into the bronchial tubes, in spite of the previous anesthesia to which he had to undergo. The psychological effect is generally not very encouraging. On the other hand, the dingnostic turns out to be imperfect, it only related to the parts really rendered onac in X-rays by the introduction of the fluid, which in fact is limited to one or more large bronchi or even in many from case to part of these.
In this way, the practitioner only has an unmistakable and often misleading view of the lesions. The aim of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks.
For this purpose, in the radiography process according to the invention, the aforesaid fluid is a non-toxic and inert gas.
In an advantageous embodiment of the object of the invention, the aforesaid gas is a mixture of carbogen with a gas of high atonic weight, such as argon or xenon.
The present invention also relates to an apparatus for carrying out the process referred to above.
By way of example and without limitation, it comprises, according to the invention, a device for supplying the fluid, a device for supplying the fluid, a device for discharging the latter, an expansion chamber, on the other hand an adjustment means. flow, a fluid suction device, such as a mask, connected to the aforementioned evacuation device. The gas aspirated by the patient being despite everything expensive, it is necessary to be able to reuse it after expiration,
For this purpose, according to the invention, the apparatus operates in a closed circuit. The exhaled gas is charged with carbonic acid and must be removed. Pipes bringing the gas and directing it towards the mask nassent by means of filtration.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In an advantageous embodiment of the object of the invention, the aforementioned filtering means is such that the pipes located (! In the expansion chamber are embedded in a substance absorbing carbonic acid. , such as caustic notasse or aged lime or any other chemical absorbent.
@ 'Other details and features of the invention will emerge from the description of a particular embodiment of the subject of the invention given below by way of non-limiting example and with reference to the accompanying drawing.
This gives a view in elevation and in section of an apparatus according to the invention. The use of a gas, in so far as it is not toxic has the advantage of being easy, of not causing pain when entering the respiratory tract. This gas must also be opaque to X-rays, have no harmful effect on the pulmonary fabric and allow ordinary breathing. The gas which best meets these requirements is a mixture of carbogen, which allows easy resnpiration, with argon, a high molecular weight gas. This particularity of the high value of the atomic weight, precisely allows the diffusion in all the targeted organs.
By studying the opacity of bodies to x-rays it has been found that that of argon is comparable to that of calcium, while that of xenon is greater than that of iodine.
For reasons of cost price, argon is considered to be the most suitable. this usage. However, by the theory of x-ray absorption, it has been found that multimolecular gases are even better suited for use, at
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
conditions that they are not harmful.
The x-ray process therefore consists in making the patient suck a quantity of carbogen-argon gas, on carbogen-xenon, and to impress the radiographic plate during the aspiration of the fluid in the airways, which thus become opaque to X-rays during aspiration, thanks to the gas with which they are filled and that in their entirety.
For the implementation of the above radiography method, it suffices to apply a suction mask to the respiratory tract of the patient to be diagnosed and to connect the latter to an apparatus where the mixture of argon and carbogen gas is made and which is also used to mark the patient's inspiration and expiration amplitudes.
The carbogen is brought by a pipe I, joined by a three-way valve 2, called a "Babinet valve" to a pipe 3 bringing in argon. The pipes 1 and 3 branch off on the one hand, through a pipe 7, into an expansion chamber 4, and on the one hand through a pipe "to a gas suction device; @el a mask 5 bearing flexible connectors 19, preferably of rubber.
From the expansion chamber 4, starts a pipe 6 which is also directed towards the mask 5.
The chamber 4 is formed by a container 9 open at its upper part and containing a substance absorbing carbonic acid. The latter will be for example the caustic pot or the soda lime indicated in 10.
The expansion chamber 4: is closed by a cover II, made of a light material, such as aluminum for example, and consisting of a cylinder open downwards, which covers the receptacle 9. The receptacle 9 and the cover are placed
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
in a vessel 12 filled with liquid paraffin, in which the lower part of the cover II is immersed. The cover II is suspended by a link 13, which is guided by pulleys 14, and at the end of which a counterweight 13 is fixed. A stylet 16 attached to the link will plot the diagram 17 of the patient's lung amplifications. The pipes 6 and 8 are also controlled by a multi-way valve 18, such as a Babinet valve.
He. It is of course understood that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment described above and that many modifications can be made to it, in particular as regards the form, the constitution, the number and the arrangement of the elements involved in its implementation, without departing from the scope of the present patent application, provided that these changes are compatible with the spirit of the claims set out below.
