DEMANDE DE BREVET D'INVENTION Messieurs Rager TEMMERMAN & Maurice TEMMERMAN Appareil. ouvre-boïts.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Le levier 14 étant horizontal, on pose sur la plaqua la boîte @ 9 à ouvrir,et on règle la hauteur de la ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

APPLICATION FOR PATENT OF INVENTION Messrs. Rager TEMMERMAN & Maurice TEMMERMAN Apparatus. can opener.
The object of the present invention is an apparatus intended for the automatic opening of metal boxes containing, for example, preserves, this device being more particularly designed, for businesses (restaurants, bars, shops, etc.) where a large number of boxes. all dimensions must be open imper - cablament,
This device is to be fixed to the horizontal shelf of a table, a counter, etc., and it essentially comprises a knife, substantially vertical, but capable of a slight angular pivoting, a knife holder part, normally fixed in the device, but capable of a slight pivoting, a horizontal knob, capable of coming into engagement with the cylindrical wall of the box to be opened, at the level of the base to be cut,
a vertical axis carrying this wheel, an operating lever, capable of being brought into a vertical position to force the knife holder to pivot slightly and thus to slightly separate the knife from / the wheel, this lever then being able to be brought back into the horizontal position, to bring the knife closer to the wheel - under the action of a return spring -, and being able, in this hearth position to be rotated, to rotate @
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
the wheel, all these components being carried by an upper head, integral with a lower vertical rod which slides longitudinally in a vertical sleeve to be fixed, by suitable intermediaries, to the horizontal shelf of a tabla or a counter,
etc., said head comprising, above its knob, a projecting stop by which it rests on the upper edge of the box to be opened.
The wheel, with special teeth, protrudes slightly from said head, and can thus come into engagement with the cylindrical wall of a box placed on the shelf and applied against the vertical rod carrying the head.
To open a box, the device being in place, we raise the tâta so that a box to be opened, placed against the vertical tigs, is located under the lower tip of the knife, by which the device therefore rests on the bottom. top of the box; the operating lever is then rotated to its vertical position, while maintaining the box, then pushes its head in, which has the effect of making the knife penetrate into the metal of the upper base, right against the edge of the box, the protruding stopper of the head coming to rest on this edge; the operating lever is then folded down and it is rotated. The box is thus rotated by the wheel; and the upper base, while rotating, is cut openly by the knife which remains fixed.
Once the box is open, lift the head of the device and remove the box.
In order for the invention to be fully understood, the appended drawing shows: in a vertical section of the apparatus, before the insertion of the knife and in FIG. 2, the marl seen, during the cutting of the bottom.
1 designates a fixed horizontal shelf to which the device must be attached. The fixed part of the device comprises a plate or base 2 resting on the shelf 1, a vertical sleeve 3 pressed against the edge of the shelf, a tab 4 integral with this sleeve and parallel to 2, and a screw clamp 5 to removably fix this fixed part to the shelf 1.
In the socket 3, can slide a vertical rod 6, which bears at its upper end, the movable head 8. In the vertical part c

of this head is rotatably housed a metal wheel 7, the teeth of which protrude slightly on the vertical face of this part facing the base 2, so that a box, 9 placed on said base, and applied against this vertical face is in contact, by its cylindrical surface with case teeth.
The wheel 7, which cannot be moved vertically in its housing, is integral with a vertical axis 10 extending freely in the vertical part of the head, and extending upwards beyond the head, its end upper ending in a flat 11, engaged in the forks 13 which ends the operating lever 14; the. plate 11 and the fork 13 are connected by pivot 12.
The axle passes freely through a part 15 with a conical outer surface, which cooperates with an opening 16 of tapered marl provided at the upper part of the head 8, the two bases of this part being taken between the lower edge of the fork 13 and the 'end of a lever 17, housed in the horizontal part of the head 8, and which pivots at 18.
The lower edge of the fork 13 is slightly eccentric relative to the pivot 12,. And a spring 19, housed in the hollow 20 of the head 8, acts to pivot upwards. lever 17.
The wheel and its axis being fixed in the vertical direction, the pivot 12 is itself fixed vertically; it follows that when the operating lever is rotated from the horizontal position to the vertical position, the edge lower da its terminal fork forces the part 15 to descend slightly by resting on the conical wall of the opening 16 ,. and that the lever 17 pivoted downwards, compressing its spring to return
Said lever 17 comprises a lower arm 21, normally vertical, armed with a projecting lower knife 22 which ,. if the maneuvering lever is horizontal, presses against the protruding teeth of the wheel.
This knife passes between the teeth of a projection 23, provided at the head 8 directly above the teeth, projecting from the wheel,
Under these conditions, the device operates as follows:
The lever 14 being horizontal, the box @ 9 to be opened is placed on the plate, and the height of the;
head, so that, this box 9 being applied against the projecting part of the head 7, the sharp lower point of the knife 22 rests on the upper bottom of the box, the lever 14 is then brought into its vertical position. .
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the (fig.l) and then exerting a pressure or a shock downward on the head 8, so as to force the knife 22 to penetrate into the bottom of the box, the projection 23 thus coming to rest on the upper edge of this one .. The. The lever 14 is then folded down, the knife 22 remaining engaged in the box, and the lever 14 is rotated in the horizontal plane.
This results in a rotation of the wheel 7, the teeth of which, when the box 9 held pressed against them by the knife and the stop 23, determine a corresponding rotation of the box, the upper bottom of which is cut automatically by- the knife 22 remaining stationary. After a complete turn of the box, the bottom is completely cut, and it suffices to lightly rewash the head 8 to be able to remove the open box.
