<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

DESCRIPTIVE MEMORY filed in support of a patent application JEAN FRANCOIS VYVERMANS, domiciled at AUDERGHEM,?, Avenue Henri Schoofs STEEL SHEET BOILER WITH AUTOMATIC FEEDING AND DECRASSAGE WITH RETURN OF FLAMES.
The present invention relates to a boiler with a fuel store, with automatic feed and scouring, constituted by the juxtaposition of vertical elements made of sheet steel welded in such a way that no weld is apparent in the combustion chamber.
A preferred embodiment of this boiler is moreover described below with reference to the appended drawings in which: FIG. I represents a vertical section through the boiler / FIG. II represents a horizontal section through of the boiler, according to plan CD. fig. I.
- Figure III shows a front elevational view of the same boiler.
The device comprises:
A largely dimensioned fuel tank (I), provided at its base with a longitudinal opening (2) and an inclined bottom (3) ensuring the evacuation of the fuel by simple gravity; it is fitted with a hermetic cover (4) controlled internally by a screw and nut mechanism (5)
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
operated by an external steering wheel.
The body of the boiler itself, attached to the fuel tank and composed by the assembly of a variable number of individual vertical hollow elements in sheet steel, with water circulation, communicating individually with the inlet manifold (6) by a flanged pipe (7) located at the lower part and at the water or steam outlet manifold (8) by an identical pipe located at the upper part (9) which ensures regular circulation in all the elements and prevents the formation of vapor pockets favorable to the destruction of the boilers.
The front element (IO) receives the single door (II) of the fireplace and the ashtray as well as the access door (12) to the smoke box, the rear element (13) constitutes the bottom of the boiler, while the intermediate elements (14) all similar and of special shapes as indicated in the accompanying drawing, delimit the combustion chamber (15).
Laterally and indifferently on the left side or the right side of the boiler, all the elements are individually extended by recuperators (16) integral with the elements, conforming to the shape of a U ensuring intimate contact of the gases with the surface of the boiler. heating and providing a large development of the heat exchange surface, Sounds a low volume. Easy cleaning of their surface and ducts is provided by means of movable plates (17) closing off the upper part of the recuperators and the sealing of which is ensured by a layer of sand or heat insulation.
Under the recuperators is fitted a smoke box (18) easily accessible by a door (12) placed on the front.
The combustion chamber (15) delimited as indicated above is largely dimensioned and its volume increases in proportion to the number of elements which make up the boiler.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The inclined grid formed by the alignment of the fixed bars (19) with water circulation adjoining the elements is completed by two sets of mobile bars (20 and 21) composed of cast iron elements placed in the extension of one of the 'other, alternating with the fixed bars and pivoting separately each around an individual axis (22) and (23) controlled externally by a single lever (24) specially established to avoid the simultaneous operation of the two sets of grids.
It should be noted that the mobile grates (20) ensuring the slagging of the inclined grate are provided at their lower part with a heel extended downwards, so as to prevent the sieving of the charcoal towards the ashtray as well. that the descent of the coal from the hopper towards the grid, during the cleaning maneuver.
Under the grid is arranged a blowing box (25) which simultaneously serves as an ashtray. A movable ash pan (26) is permanently located under the horizontal part extending the lower part of the grate, to receive the ashes knocked down by the operation of the mobile grates at the time of cleaning.
The coal is lowered onto the grates through a succession of openings (27) made in the side walls of the sections, facing the recuperators and located in the extension of the inclined bottom of the hopper.
A range of interchangeable registers, with variable profiles, maneuverable from the outside, makes it possible to limit the height of the fuel layer to its most favorable value, while a full shutter register makes it possible to stop the fuel layer at any time. descent of fuel.
A gravity-closing door (28) tilting around an axis placed at its upper part, ensures the permanent closing of the access opening to the register.
The air required for combustion is blown into the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
wind box located under the grille, by an air intake, the opening of which can be adjusted by an intake valve communicating with the outlet of the fan (29). A complementary air injection above the layer of fuel is provided by a special steel transverse tube (30) possibly cooled by water circulation, provided with regularly distributed nozzles and connected to the fan discharge with the interposition of a control register.
In order to ensure uniform operation, adjustable according to requirements, the fan can optionally be controlled by a thermostat or a pressure switch acting on the motor contactor. In the event of a power failure, combustion takes place at idle speed under the influence of natural draft.
Said boiler can be built in different dimensions, adapted to the size of the required heat output.
The construction provides for a removable assembly.
OPERATION.
The boiler is commissioned and operated as follows:
After having placed respectively in their housing the shutter register and the layer regulator suitable for the charcoal available - like 2/5 -5/10 - 10/20 and the like, preferably anthracite - we light a wood fire on Grid. When the combustion is well started, the fan is started and a slight blowing is allowed under the grate, while gradually introducing small quantities of coal through the door of the hearth. The shutter register is then removed from its housing, as soon as combustion is perfectly assured, so as to allow the coal from the hopper to directly and automatically feed the fireplace.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
If the first wood fire is sufficiently substantial, it is possible to admit the charcoal from the hopper directly onto the grate, without prior handling, but it is necessary to operate in such a way as to avoid the complete covering of the burning wood by the fresh charcoal. which could cause the transient formation of carbon monoxide, the ignition of which could be detrimental.
When the grid is clogged, following the formation of meltable bottom ash, the cleaning is carried out, which for economic purposes is carried out in two phases. The first involves stopping the fan, then folding down the mobile grids (21) side to the recuperators, so as to tip the bottom ash accumulated on the lower horizontal area of the grate during the previous scrubbing into the ashtray, with a view to their complete cleaning. combustion. The evacuation of large caliber bottom ash is favored by their grinding carried out by a series of teeth placed at right angles to the mobile bars of the grid and which, being integral with them, are entrained in the rotation during the folding of the grids under the action of the operation of the lever placed on the front.
When these bottom ash are removed, the mobile grid (21) is returned to its normal initial position and the inclined grid is cleaned by lifting the mobile bars (20) by a new operation of the lever.
The bottom ash and the small charcoal carried along, are brought down on the lower horizontal part of the grate where they finish burning, while the mobile grate brought back to its initial position, releases the coal embankment and allows the fresh fuel to cover at new grids. The fan is put back into service and the boiler is ready for a new period of operation.
