EXEMPLE 3 :

Process for obtaining high value hydrocarbons.
---------
For the treatment of relatively high boiling point hydrocarbons, the process of catalytic dissociation is increasingly adopted. According to this process the high boiling point hydrocarbons are dissociated or cracked into benzines, or essences, at temperatures between 400 and 700, by means of suitable dissociating or cracking catalysts or contact bodies. , among which aluminum silicates occupy the first place. In this case, certain quantities of gas are always formed. Methods of this kind have often been described in the literature.
In addition, it is known to also transform hydrocarbons belonging to the boiling zone of benzine, on similar contact bodies and at similar temperatures, into benzines of a higher etane number.
The benzines or gasolines thus obtained have, in the non-hydrogenated state, octane numbers of the order of 60 to 80.
The process described below indicates a new way to obtain, by a dissociation process carried out in a special way, in combination with a simultaneous isomerization of low boiling point hydrocarbons, high yields of benzines. or gasolines of maximum or extremely high value, that is to say, benzines or gasolines which can be used, for example, for high power aircraft engines. Particularly suitable for the new process are paraffinic or saturated hydrocarbons in a high proportion, especially those obtained in the hydrogenation of carbon monoxide, with or without pressure, on catalysts or contact bodies with cobalt, iron or nickel. .
It has been found that it is possible to obtain particularly high yields of high-value hydrocarbons when the dissociation is carried out in the presence of large quantities of water vapor and activated aluminum silicates, for example. example, bleaching earth or acid activated kaolin, at temperatures of around 500.
The partial tension of the hydrocarbons used in the process amounts in this case mainly to about 1/10 atmospheres. The residence times in the presence of the contact mass are approximately 5 to 20 seconds. Under these conditions, a dissociation of about 40% by weight is carried out in a single pass, the dissociation products, being constituted in this case, in an amount of about 70%, of unsaturated hydrocarbons at low boiling point, which can be converted, for example on phosphoric acid contact bodies, into benzines or gasolines with very high octane numbers.

This process has the particular advantage of making it possible to introduce into the dissociation process, in addition to hydrocarbons boiling above about 150, which are put into a process to be dissociated, also unsaturated hydrocarbons, 9 low point. boiling, namely, mainly C4 to C5 and C hydrocarbons, replacing part of the water vapor by these hydrocarbons. The latter undergo only a weak dissociation, being, on the other hand, isomerized in an excellent way. It was thus observed, for example, that the unsaturated portions of a C fraction were polymerized in an amount of approximately 50% on leaving the dissociation or cracking installation.
However, the paraffinic or saturated portions of a C fraction also had, on leaving the installation, a content of about 50% of C isocompounds. It is a surprising fact that this partial water vapor replacement can be carried out without any detrimental influence on the dissociation process or on the quality of the corresponding dissociation products. It is useful not to replace all of the water vapor, but to keep large or essential amounts of water vapor. It has been found that it is particularly advantageous to work with a quantity of water vapor such that the ratio of the partial tensions of the hydrocarbons used in the process to that of the water vapor is less than 0.2.
The particular advantage of the method lies in that the installation becomes very flexible. Most often, a dissociation or cracking installation, whether of the catalytic type or of the thermal type, is required to treat the most diverse products obtained in the corresponding synthesis plant or in the corresponding petroleum refinery. This is particularly the case for catalytic installations which are often incorporated into large already existing production units and which then receive the materials to be treated according to market needs, respectively according to production. Most often these installations are combined with thermal installations.
These thermal installations in their turn inevitably give relatively high quantities of unsaturated hydrocarbons, at a low boiling point, which, however, do not make it possible to obtain benzines or gasolines of great value, because they contain too few isocompounds. In plants for the catalytic hydrogenation of CO to hydrocarbon-benzines or gasolines, up to about 20% of low-boiling point hydrocarbons, partially unsaturated in a high proportion, are also obtained, which are advantageously treatable. according to the present process.
A process of catalytic dissociation or catalytic cracking making it possible to carry out simultaneously, besides its own task, also the transformation of hydrocarbons in C, C5 and C6 at low boiling point, necessarily obtained in other processes, of high value hydrocarbons, practically without any increase in expenditure, is of the greatest industrial importance.
EXAMPLE 1:
A reaction vessel 1 m o and 2 m in height, loaded with 1400 l of a dissociation or cracking catalyst, is passed through a reaction period, 39 kg. of a fraction of the Fischer synthesis boiling between 180 and 350, 48 kg. of dissociation or cracking return product and simultaneously 113 kg. steam, both preheated to the reaction temperature. The average temperature of the catalyst charge is 500. The reaction period lasts 40 minutes. After the latter
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
steam blowing is applied for 1 minute and then an air treatment for 15 minutes, at a flow rate of 200 m 3 / h, to buckle the precipitated carbon.
After a further short steam blowing, comes the next reaction period. The dissociation of the product used in the process is 45% by weight. Next to 3% by weight of carbon, 7% by weight of C1 and C2 hydrocarbons and hydrogen are formed, as well as 17% by weight of hydrocarbon-benzines or gasolines boiling between 50 and 180.73% by weight of C4 and C5 sen hydrocarbons, convertible, with a yield of 64% by weight, by polymerization, into benzines or special gasolines of great value.
It is possible to obtain in this way, from 39 kg. of dissociation or cracking products, obtained per reaction period, 18.2 kg. of a gasoline or gasoline boiling between 50 and 165 which has, in the completely hydrogenated state, after an addition of 1.2 cm3 of tetraethyl lead per liter, an engine octane number of 97.
EXAMPLE 2:
Pass through a 1 m. # By 2 m reaction vessel. in height, charged with 1400 1. of a dissociation or cracking catalyst, per reaction period, 39 kg. of a fraction of the Fischer synthesis boiling between 180 and 350, 48 kg. of dissociation refractory product, 105 kg. of steam and 20 kg. of a C fraction having an olefin content greater than 90% and a branched chain hydrocarbon content of about 10%, preheated to the reaction temperature. The average temperature of the catalyst charge is 500. The reaction period lasts 40 minutes.
After the latter, a steam blowing is applied for 1 minute, then an air treatment for 15 minutes for the buckling of the precipitated carbon, the air being applied at a flow rate of 200 / hour.
After blowing again, with short steam, comes the next reaction period. The dissociation of the fraction boiling between 180 and 3500 is 45% by weight, as in Example 1. The dissociated products, respectively transformed, give 47 kg. of polymerizable products, from which 36.5 kg are formed. of a gasoline or gasoline boiling between 50 and 165 which has, in the completely hydrogenated state, after addition of the: 2 cm3 of tetraethyl lead per liter, an engine octane number of 97.
EXAMPLE 3:
If the 20 kg were not passed simultaneously through the reaction vessel. of the corn fraction, which was carried out directly to their polymerization and then added to the benzine or gasoline obtained according to Example 1, only 28 kg would be obtained in all. of a gasoline or gasoline boiling between 50 and 165 which would have, in the completely hydrogenated state, after the addition of 1.2 cm of tetraethyl lead, an engine octane number of 94.
