A process for the manufacture of higher polymers of cyclic atoms.
It has been found that by heating cyclic lactams having more than 6 cyclic chains after addition of linkages causing the formation of polyesters or linkage mixtures, valuable polycondensation products can be obtained.
The lactams to be considered for this reaction must have more than 6 ring chains. These are, for example, caprolactam, suberone isoxime, 2-, 3-, or 4-methyl-cyclohexanone isoxime and octanic acid lactam. As regards the bonds or mixtures of bonds giving rise to the formation of polyester, mention may be made of: oxycaproic acid, oxyundecanic acid, bxystearic acid, mixtures comprising substantially equivalent quantities dicarbonic acids and glycols, such as, for example, malonic acid, adipic acid, suberic acid, sebacic acid as well as butanediol, hexamethylene glycol , octamethylene glycol.
Condensation is generally carried out at temperatures between 170 and 320, however preferably at temperatures above the melting point of the resulting polymer.
We work advantageously on the molten material; it is however possible to use diluents. Condensation is carried out at normal pressure or in a closed vessel. To achieve certain goals, it is advantageous to perform vacuum treatment or to combine different processes.
If desired, viscosity stabilizers, mat products and so on can also be added. The proportions in which the substances or mixtures of substances giving rise to the formation of polyesters are added vary within wide limits.
If only the dissociation of the lactam ring is continued, it is preferable to work with an amount of 1 to 15%. If it is desired to obtain mixed polymerizates, the dosage can be increased.
The products obtained according to the present process can be used to be transformed into the most diverse shaped products, optionally in admixture with products.

highly polymerized known synthetic or natural, natural resins, materials giving a matt appearance, coloring materials.
Example 1:
100 g of air-dry caprolactams and 5 g of a mixture of equivalent amounts of sebacic acid and hexamethyleneglycol are heated in a heating bath, at 2400, in a carbonic acid atmosphere serving as protective gas. After a few Moors we clearly notice an increase in viscosity. After 15 hours we have a product with very good plastic properties.
Example 2:
100 g of caprolactam and 10 g of a mixture of equivalent quantities of adipic acid and deoamethylene glycol are intimately mixed and condensed. In a heating bath at 240. After condensation for 12 hours, a product is obtained having good plastic properties.
