<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

"Automatic Vending Machine It
It is known in automatic vending machines with movable goods pockets, for example in an elevator, to control the movement of the pockets in such a way, with respect to the goods distribution door, that a filled pocket. goods is moved into a position opposite to the door during the last part of the latter's closing movement which is carried out after access to the space behind the goods distribution door has been made impossible. Thus the commodity for sale will have been moved to a point behind the commodity distribution door through which it is to be sold, before a subsequent sale is made.
It is further known to arrange the merchandise pockets of a vending machine in rotating drums divided into compartments in the form of sectors, said drums being able, before purchase, to be adjusted by the purchaser in such a way. my-
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
that the merchandise he wishes to buy can be directed to a position behind the dispensing door, when the latter is to be opened, after a coin has been inserted beforehand.
It is also known to move the drum gradually, with the drum moving mechanism released each time a coin is inserted. Usually a poius or spring is allowed to turn the drum, while a ratchet mechanism is released when the coin is inserted; by this means the drum can rotate by one division, corresponding to the width of a baggage bag, measured at the periphery of the drum.
In automatic vending machines of this type, however, it is necessary that all the pockets, or in any case the pocket which is to be placed behind the door on the next rotation of the drum, is placed so that it is visible from the outside. outside, because when a buyer approaches the machine the pocket behind the door will be empty, since the previous buyer precisely emptied this pocket.
In order for the new buyer to be able to assure the nature and quality of the merchandise he wishes to purchase, he must have access to at least inspect the contents of the continuing bag prior to purchase. These drum machines must therefore have fronts facing at least two different sides, and for this reason it has not heretofore been possible to assemble them in such a way as to form several columns of drums. sale rising side by side.
This only becomes possible by virtue of the present invention, which is characterized in that the drum is controlled by a stop mechanism driven by a blockable goods distribution door, which is known per se, and is only released after the introduction of a coin, so that it can be opened by hand, there said stop mechanism serving, during the last part of the closing movement of the door, to release the goods drum, which described as
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
if a rotation of an angle corresponding to the angle at the periphery of a cargo pocket.
By inserting this stopping mechanism at the desired point of the machine, the advantage is obtained that the merchandise for sale, immediately after the previous sale, will be moved to a point behind the dis- tribution, which is provided with a glass window, so that it will not be necessary to provide a special glass pane panel along the door. However, this improvement of the drum machine means elimination. of the need to have two front faces as is known to be necessary until now in these machines, and thus it becomes possible to build several machines together side by side, each having the door with / its window in glass placed in the front of the machine.
The other characteristics of the invention are mentioned in the following in connection with the embodiment of the invention shown in the drawing.
In the drawing: fig. 1 shows a sales machine, in side elevation and partially in section, FIG. 2, the same, plan view, after a similar partial cut. fig. 3, a corresponding section of an alternative embodiment. fig. 4, part thereof, in side elevation after partial cut, freezes the machine constructed and assembled with several similar machines, and FIG. 6, a drum machine of the known type.
In the drawing, 1 denotes several rotating merchandise drums arranged coaxially one above the other and divided into three pockets in the form of sectors, by means of partitions 2.
The drum is located directly behind the doors to
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
corresponding goods 3 in the front face of the machine, said doors being mounted on pivots 4. A pair of arms 5 and 6 are rigidly connected to the door, and when the latter turns the arms cooperate with a member 8 mon- tee on a pivot 7.
When the door 3 is open, the arm 6 presses against a pressure plate 9 on the member 8, which by its resulting rotation moves a carriage 10 which in a manner known per se can cooperate with the stop bars 11 of 1 '.-. machine and a control bar 12, until a pawl 14 suspended from the carriage and loaded with a pivot 13 has passed another pawl 15 suspended from a frame on the intermediate plate of the drum, and is engaged with that pawl and left it again.
The cooperation of the arm 6 and the pressure plate 9 takes place only during the first part of the rotating movement of the goods door 3. When the goods are removed from the goods pocket, the door is again. closed, during the last part of the closing movement t, the arm 5 presses against another pressure plate 16 provided on the member 8, and returns the latter to its initial position.
during this movement, which is not initiated before the cargo door has engaged with various stops known in themselves and prevent the door from being opened again before the introduction of a new coin, the pawl 14, which is now supported by a latch 17, rotates the pawl 15 which also engages the drum, in such a way that it prevents the drum from spinning under. the action of the spring shown in FIG.
2, which on a toothed sector 19 with a gear wheel @ on the shaft of the drum, thanks to the pawl 15 being placed in the path of some juts 21 on the bottom of the drum. Therefore when the pawl 15, by means of the pawl 14, is released from the tabs or stops 21, and then slides itself out of engagement with the pawl 14, the drum 1 is rotated, and therefore the stop which has just been
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
released hits an extension 22 of the pawl 15, which is thus quickly returned to the stop position and will meet the next stop 21 on the drum, so that the latter will only be moved by a third of a turn.
The pawl 15 can still be actuated by a spring, which, however, is not shown in the drawing.
The drum 1 is further actuated by another pawl 23 which is mounted on a vertical pivot 24 and which by engaging in a notch 25 in the lower edge of the drum prevents any unauthorized rotation of the drum in a direction opposite to the direction of rotation. main drum, so that it becomes impossible for a dishonest customer to spin the drum backwards and therefore steal the contents of the other pockets.
However, such rotation must be possible when the vending machine is to be filled, and therefore a vertical shaft 26 is provided which by means of stops 27 can rotate the pawls 23 out of engagement with their drums, since the stops 27 are born to press against a part 29 of each pawl directed towards the rear and actuated by a spring 28.
It may happen that a merchandise pocket has not been filled; consequently when the pocket which immediately precedes it has been emptied and the pocket which has been emptied all the time is brought by pivoting opposite the goods door, the customers will no longer continue to withdraw from the merchandise from the drum in question, which they will consider to be entirely empty of merchandise.
This drawback is avoided by the present sales machine by ensuring that the pocket which stops opposite the goods door is always full, unless of course the drum has been completely emptied. This advantage is obtained by the arrangement shown in FIGS. 3 and 4. Each merchandise pocket is provided with a curved bar 30 which firmly grips the merchandise 34 which is introduced into the pocket, and is
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>

6 sulking to make the bar 30 pivot inside the pocket.
This rotation of the curved bar takes place as soon as the merchandise is removed, and by this rotation the pivot will be pushed upwards, as a stop 37 at the lower part of the pivot is moved along an inclined surface. 8 against which the stopper is kept pressed by the spring

Figs. 2 and 5 showing how the drum machine
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
according to the invention can be constructed and assembled to form a vending machine comprising a large number of merchandise drums side by side, because each drum requires only a front face on a part of the front face of the machine corresponding mainly to the diameter of the drum.
In contrast to this, fig. 6 shows an old drum machine, the goods drum of which needs a front face in two directions, because it must have a goods distribution compartment 32 as well as an exhibition compartment with window 31, through which buyers can inspect the goods before the introduction of a coin, which rotates the drum of a compartment forward in the direction of the arrow and releases the goods distribution door, if one is provided. .
The sales machine according to the invention shown in the drawings and described above can be constructed in many other ways coming within the scope of the invention. Thus in FIGS. 1 and 2 the toothed sector 19 can be replaced by a rack actuated by an external spring or a weight, or the drum 1 can be actuated directly by a spiral spring inserted under the bottom of the drum. The engagement points, in the drum, for the pawls 15 and 23 can be changed, and in addition the pawl 15 can be suspended with its pivot on the carriage 10.
Finally, the arms 5 and 6 do not necessarily have to be connected / firmly to the goods door 3 considered, but it will suffice that they are forced to move with the latter, and the rotary member 8 can be omitted entirely. ; in this case the arms 5 and 6 are made to produce the movement of the carriage 10 in the desired manner by means of suitable pressure surfaces provided thereon.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
In addition, the pawl 33, as well as the pawl 14, can be actuated by a weight instead of by a spring.
CLAIMS.

1. Automatic vending machine comprising a clean tanbour rotating by a vertical axis and containing a number of merchandise pockets arranged in a circular row, characterized in that the drum 1 is controlled by a stop mechanism 7 10 which is moved by a merchandise distribution door 3, which is known per se, and is suitable for being blocked or locked, and is only released, to be opened by hand, after a coin has been introduced, said stop mechanism serving, during the last part of the closing movement of the door,
in releasing the goods drum is thus led to describe a rotation by an angle corresponding to the peripheral angle of a goods pocket.
