<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

PROCESS FOR CUTTING FIBRO-CEMENT AND SIMILAR MATERIALS, AND MACHINE FOR CARRYING OUT IT.
The present invention relates to a method for cutting fiber cement materials or the like.
According to the invention, this operation is carried out by imparting to a tool of suitable shape a sufficiently fast reciprocating movement so that the cutting is carried out in an uninterrupted manner as the product to be cut advances. of the tool is thus comparable to that of the needle in a sewing machine, only the speed combined with the length of its cutting edge ensures the continuity of the cut.
This cutting method has the advantage of allowing the use of less expensive tools and of giving the cut greater sharpness.
The machine intended for carrying out this die-cutting process can take different construction forms depending on the industrial application for which it is intended.
The drawing appended to this specification shows by way of example one embodiment.
In this drawing, Fig.I is an elevational view of a

machine, of which Fig. 2 is a cut by AB (with a tool of different shape).
Fig.3 and 4 show respectively in view and in section supports for cutting corrugated and tubular surfaees.
On a frame I, made of cast iron or profiled iron, a cylindrical upright 2 is bolted, on which an arm 3 terminating in a vertical bush 4 is fixed, which serves as a guide for a tool holder 5.
This tool holder is drilled at its upper part with several holes 6,6 ′, one of which is crossed by a pin 7 intended to connect the tool holder to a horizontal bar 8 pivoting at one of its ends around a axis 9 carried by arm 3. At its other end the bar 8 is articulated on a connecting rod 10 mounted on the bent shaft II carried by bearings 12 fixed to the frame 1. On the shaft II are wedged a flywheel 13 and a pulley 14; to this a transmission member, pulley, chain, etc., transmits the required rotational movement.
To the tool holder 5 is fixed by a clamping screw 15 the cutting tool consisting of a rod 16 ending in a cutting edge 16 'forming the large base of a truncated cone (Fig.I). is disposed a blade in the form of a crowbar 17 fixed to the socket 4 and intended to prevent the piece to be cut from rising. Under the blade 17 is fixed to the frame I a workpiece support plate 18 pierced with a hole passage 19 for the tool.The shape of this plate depends on the profile of the surface to be cut; it will therefore be flat (Fig.I), curved (Fig.3) or pipe-shaped (Fig.4) depending on the application envisaged, which will also facilitate the disposal of waste.
It is easily understood that by giving the tool 16 a sufficiently fast reciprocating movement, the working surface introduced under the presser foot 17 will be cut in a continuous manner.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The arrangement of the parts of the machine will depend on the surfaces to be cut; for large surfaces the arm 3 will in particular be supported from above so as to facilitate maneuvers. On the other hand, in the same vein, it is possible to use, without departing from the scope of the invention, a support in the form of of carriage equipped with an automatic advance synchronized with the movement of the tool. Moreover the tool can move, while conversely the surface to be cut will be fixed.
The shape of this tool will also vary according to the applications.In the case of rectilinear cutting, the cutting edge 16 'will advantageously present a projection 16' '(Fig. 2), in the form of a punch, which will also serve as a guide member. In this case, it will be necessary to lower the attachment point of the tool holder 5 to the bar 8.
It is also understood that the reciprocating movement of the tool 16 can be obtained by any suitable motor means.
