<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Grinding machine.
The invention relates to a grinding machine comprising two grinding cylinders in rotation relation by a gear train and one of which is in a fixed position so that the other is mobile.
With the effect of allowing a relatively large variation of the center distance of said cylinders without resulting in a detrimental variation of the meshing and the proper functioning of the gears set on the spindles of these cylinders, 1- ' invention provides for the interposition of a gear train.
This gear train is produced in such a way that the zone of engagement of the pinion fixed on the movable cylinder with the intermediate pinion which cooperates with it, is substantially parallel to the movement towards or away from the cylinders. In other words, the aforementioned point of engagement is chosen such that the displacement of the axis of the movable cylinder is substantially parallel to the tangent conducted in the area of engagement with the two gears in question.
This embodiment therefore allows the use of gear teeth of lower modulus than that used to date, which results in a larger population of these teeth and consequently

Quence less vibrations detrimental to the good performance of the grinding.
Various construction features possible by the present invention emerge from the description below.
The appended drawings show by way of nonlimiting example one embodiment of the invention. This extends to the various original features included in the arrangement shown.
The fig.l is a view of the machine according to the invention; the right part of this figure is a section through the gear housing; the left part shows the part of the housing supporting the engine in its lowered position,
Fig. 2 is a view of a detail of the aforesaid machine.
It is known that in devices at. milling cylinders in particular, two independent pairs of rollers are incorporated in the same frame, each pair having its own operating members. In these machines, the control of each pair of cylinders is effected on either side of the frame and generally by a pulley wedged on the fixed cylinder transmitting to the other end and in a suitable speed ratio, the movement to the second roller, through, for example, a pair. of gears.
Similarly, in one of the proposed construction forms, a pair of cylinders has the attack on one side and the gear train on the opposite side,
In the application of the present invention, the gears carried respectively by the fixed cylinder 3 and the movable cylinder 2 and their intermediate gear train

diaries, are contained in the same housing. The lower part 5 of this casing which is mounted so as to pivot about an axis 6 makes it possible, as can be seen in fig.l, to ensure correct lubrication by an oil bath and thereby obtain a smooth operation. smoother and quieter. This casing is also provided with a closing cover 7.
For operation, this housing is fixed in the position shown on the right side of fig.l. It will be understood that this embodiment allows easy access to the internal components of the casing and even to carry out the removal without dismantling of the lower part thereof, of the milling cylinders.
A stop provided on the side of the frame supports the lower part of the housing in the lowered position by a suitable stop.
For cleaning and examining gears, the neck

The lower part of the housing carries the intermediate gears 8 and 9, on their respective axes.
Since there are intermediate axes whose speed can be appropriate in the desired ratios, one of these axes can be the extension of the axis of an electric motor 9a and can carry a small pinion 8 which is used for the direct drive of a toothed wheel 10 wedged on the axis of the fixed cylinder 3.
On the other hand, two toothed wheels 12 and 9 attack a toothed wheel 14 wedged on the axis of the mobile cylinder 2. It should be noted that the point of engagement of the pinion 9 with the pinion 14 is chosen so that the displacement of
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the axis of the movable cylinder 2 is substantially parallel to the common tangent, conducted, in the mesh area it, to the pitch circles of the meshing pinions.
One embodiment consists in fixing the electric motor on the side of the casing enveloping the gearboxes. In this way, the main drive and the reduction gear are located on the same side of the device,
This embodiment makes it possible to have the two individual attacks possibly on the same side, of each of the two pairs of rollers contained in the same ti of a double machine.
The roller spacing is controlled in roller devices by means of a lever 15.
It is possible to use the movement of this lever to start and stop the rotational movement of the pair of rollers concerned. To this end, the ir ention provides, in a non-limiting manner, that a part of this lever 15 is made in the form of a cam 16. After a certain stroke, this cam actuates the movement of the - clutch and shift members. clutch. In the case of the electric drive, the cam 16 ensures the functionning of a trigger mechanism 17 which cuts off the arri @ ed of electric current to the motor.
The cam-shaped part 16 of the lever 15 is made in such a way as the diE; uncteur only works after the separation of the cylinders 2 and 3; when starting, the cylinders do not begin to move together until the engine is started.
The invention is not limited to the embodiment

described by way of example, but extends to any grinding machine which falls within the spirit or scope of any of the following claims.
