<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
La figure I est une ooape radiale par l'accouplement;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Coupling device for a centrifugal apparatus and in particular for a cream separator." (he
The present invention relates to all centrifugal devices comprising a rotary device driven by any motor means, with the intervention of a coupling.
The invention relates more expressly to this coupling, with the aim of producing flexible and progressive transmission, until perfect synchronism is obtained between the driving and driven members. Particularly when it comes to the application of this device for driving the bowl of the cream separator, the device according to the invention is placed between the drive axis of the bowl and the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
usual transmission components. with the effect of obtaining a soft and flexible transmission, which allows direct attack by an electric motor, for example, without it exceeding at any time its normal torque.
The coupling device is produced, substantially, by two independent elements, but concentric, carried respectively by the driving axis and the driven axis; the progressive connection between these two con @entric elements and, consequently, between the two axes, is carried out, by the effect of the centrifugal force, with the intervention of free members and guided radially in the in of the concentric elements and leaning dona on the second.
As the pressure force of these members determining the connection between the two concentric members is progressively increasing with the increase in the speed of rotation of the driving element, it follows that on starting, the centrifugal force being practically zero, the engine will only be required to a minimum force. As the force increases progressively, the motor will therefore be loaded according to the same progression, until perfect synchmcism, in the angular speed of the two concentric members, respectively driving and driven.
It will immediately be understood that, by means of such an original device, it is possible to achieve an extremely flexible and docile coupling between all driving and driven members, driven by a rotational movement.
This application is particularly effective for the training of cream separator bowls.
In order to bring out the essential characteristics of this original coupling, an embodiment is described in detail below, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Figure I is a radial ooape through the coupling;
Figure II is a section taken on line II-II of Figure I, partially showing the actual coupling device.
In this embodiment, amber 1 is connected directly to the bowl or turbine of the centrifugal apparatus, by means of the organs generally used in this type of apparatus.
This shaft therefore rotates at the same speed as the turbine.
According to the illustration, this axis is hollow, so as to allow the passage of the rod 2, which supports the turbine itself, to which it transmits its speed through the intervention of a pin 3, for example, L axis 1 is duly guided, at its ends, by bearings 4,5 and carries a friction drum 6, as well as a final 7.0e gear is mounted idle on the central axis 1 and is engaged with a drum 8, which is therefore driven at the same speed as the gear 7, but can rotate freely by the central axis 1 * In this drum are formed radial orifices 9, thus opening to the internal face of the friction drum 6.
In these orifices are arranged masses in the form of small pistons, balls or other, placed there freely or urged outwards by any elastic means, damentally calibrated, in order to create, if necessary, a some initial resistance.
The apparatus is completed by a helical toothed wheel or the like 10, driving the gear 7, this wheel itself being actuated, directly or not, by the motor means.
It follows from this arrangement that the driving members are therefore constituted by the toothed wheel 10, the gear 7 and the mass-carrying drum 8, while the driven members are formed by the friction drum 6, the central shaft. 1, the rod 2 and the bowl or turbine or other device to be driven.
Therefore, when the gear 7 is driven by a movement
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
rotation, it drove the drum 8 at the same angular speed.
The masses 11 are urged outwardly by the centrifugal force and therefore rely on the friction drum 6. In debate, the resistance is practically zero and this resistance increases as the speed of the machine increases. drum 8. The pressure between the masses 11 and said friction drum is sufficient to drive the latter and the members which are integral with it.
It should be noted that, by this arrangement, the motor, generally an electric motor, which operates the apparatus, has perfect time to start. This characteristic is of the greatest importance, not only from an electrical point of view, but also from a mechanical point of view, in order to counteract the sudden initial shock arising from the inertia of the masses. It is to be noted, moreover, that the gear 7 and with it the drum 8, being launched very quickly at the speed of mode, the masses 11 will act gradually, but sufficiently quickly to bring, in a reduced time, the organs between - born at the same angular speed as the trainers.
It should be noted, as a further characteristic consequence, that modifying the number and / on the shape of the training mass or by modifying its weight, dimensions, etc. , the driving power of the device can easily be changed, which is also of great importance for ensuring good operation of centrifugal apparatus.
On the other hand, equivalent devices could still be produced by simply modifying the shapes, the dimensions or the relative position of the various components which have just been described, which moreover makes it possible to conform the device perfectly to each case of practical application.
