<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
disponible.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
rotation RF.
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>
@
<Desc/Clms Page number 14>
<Desc/Clms Page number 15>

The present invention relates to improvements made to automatic and semi-automatic telephone systems and the object of the invention is more particularly to provide an improved device ensuring better use of the bank contacts of the switches employed in various systems. such systems. The invention finds particular application in selectors serving groups of lines in P.B.X. or single lines or lines of both categories, although it is not limited to such lines its application to the establishment and distribution of grouped lines is greatly facilitated.
For example, if it is required to extend a group of lines in P.B.X. it is no longer necessary to have free contacts adjacent to the group and it is possible by the means of the invention to group together reserve contacts distributed in undefined positions and to associate them with any group. of lines in PBX.
According to one of the characteristics of the invention, if the final selector encounters a busy line, a signal is transmitted to an apparatus common to a certain number of these selector switches and the subsequent control of the selector, including its return to position on a different line terminating in the same direction or the transmission of a busy signal if no line is available is carried out by the common switchgear. By this means modifications to existing final selectors are minimized.
According to another characteristic of the invention, if a busy line or a group of busy lines is encountered, means have been provided to meet this condition and to release and reset the switch to a free line with access. to the same subscriber connected to another part of the switch bank or to give a busy signal if there is no such line
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
available.
According to another characteristic of the invention in order to allow the switch to be put back in position in the event that the line or the group of lines tested in the first place is found busy a switch having access to a certain number of different groups 'final selectors are provided to enter service in this case, with this switch is associated the apparatus indicating the particular line or the group of lines which must be tested, the apparatus making it possible to determine whether there is a free line terminating at the desired subscriber and the equipment controlling the reset to position of the final selector on this line, if no free line is available it causes the sending of a busy signal.
According to another characteristic of the invention with the aim of allowing the switch to be returned to its position in the event that the line or the group of lines tested first, the place has been found occupied, a device common to a certain number of final selectors is intended to be associated with these, it includes the components determining the level on which the switch has remained, the components causing the switch to advance step by step to a determined position in the level so that 'it determines the contact on the level, the devices making it possible to determine whether there is a free line terminating at the desired subscriber and the devices causing the switch to be returned to position on such a free line.
The invention will be better understood from the following description of one of its applications for which reference will be made to the appended drawings comprising FIGS. 1 - 6 of these, FIG. 1 is a junction diagram while Figs. 2 - 5 assembled as shown in fig. 6 give the connection circuits.
Referring now to the junction diagram, FS

represents a final selector to which the possibilities of Grouping have been given. GP represents common group pilot devices which, according to convenience, can be provided in duplicate for about a hundred final selectors such as FS. The GP group pilot apparatus is associated with a finder F, a marking switch L ,, both with two Louvenents and one or more switches for selecting AIR auxiliary lines with a single movement and a pulse control switch S.
The operation is as follows:
When the final selector FS encounters any busy line a start circuit is established to the common group pilot device GP. This causes the search for the final selector in question by the researcher F. When it is found the marker F begins to work, firstly it is placed on the level on which the final selector FS remained in position, secondly the appliances. of rotation of the two switches work in synchronism until the final selector FS has reached a determined position - say the eleventh - at this moment the movement of the two switches ceases and the marking switch M remains on the contacts corresponding to the contacts on which the final selector found a busy line.
If this contact has no associated auxiliary line, the group pilot device is immediately released and the final selector sends the busy tone 1 = the caller. If, however, the contact in question is part of a P.B.X. which has auxiliary lines the final selector is released on the field and a start circuit extends to the auxiliary line selector switch ALH which first searches for the first line of the auxiliary group associated with the line or group PBX selected, and if this line is busy and is not the only one in the auxiliary group, it will search for a free line in
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
the auxiliary group. When it finds a free line, it is immediately marked as busy.
The final selector is then placed in position following the ascent and rotation movements by the pulse sending switch S, that in turn is controlled according to the line selected by the switch ALH. The final selector switch relay then operates to connect this to the selected line and the group pilot device is released and made available for other uses.
It will be noted that the invention can be applied to final selectors of existing types, whether they have access to single lines only or to lines grouped in P.B.X. only or both kinds of lines, P.B.X. and simple, as well as it can be incorporated into new circuits.
Referring now to the operation of the circuit, it will be noted that only the elements of the final P.B.X. type, necessary for the understanding of the invention are represented, they are to the left of the vertical dotted line of FIGS. 2 and 4. With the exception of the case of occupancy, the operation of the P.B.X. is carried out in the usual manner and the modifications of the circuit necessary to adapt it to the case of occupation and to start the group pilot apparatus will be fully explained in the description which follows.
When a P.B.X. encounters a busy case its relay G attracts and at contact gl or g2 connects a negative through a resistor respectively to the start wire of the odd or even levels OLS or ELS leading to the group pilot device , at the same time at contact g5 or g4 it extends a negative marking towards the vertical AWF bench of the researcher to indicate the level on which the final selector is located. The dotted connection bypassing the main contact is

click only at level 0.
The provision of starter leads, for the odd and even levels, terminating in the group, main and auxiliary pilot units respectively, equalizes the load on the equipment and allows one to work as the same. 'auxiliary of the other in the event of fault. Connecting a negative through resistor to the odd level start wire causes the SA relay to pull in series with the SB relay which is a marginal pulling relay only when two or more final selectors on odd finder levels encounter the occupation simultaneously.
In this case, the function of the SB relay is to extend the starting circuit to the auxiliary group pilot device so that the two searchers are put into service and the waiting time is reduced.
Relay SA to the armature sal attracts the starting relay ST in fig. 5 which in turn to the frame stl, fig. 1, completes the search engine's own VE ascension electro control circuit. The searcher brushes search for the marked level and when this is found the FK relay circuit closes through its two windings in series through the AWF vertical bank. The relay LK to its armature lkl connects the control circuit of the electro-ascension and closes the blocking circuit of LK by means of its left winding - which has a resistance low enough to mark the selected level. to occupation for other researchers.
In the armature lk2 the own control circuit of the search engine's RF rotation electro closes as follows: positive at the switch contacts sm, fig. 2, S1 brush and first transmitter bank contact, rm switch springs, marker springs, re3 armature, seeker rf switch springs, NML shaft springs du. marker, co3 armature, researcher NF1 shaft springs, 1k2 armature, electro de

RF rotation. Seeker brushes F1 to F8 rotate the search for the final selector in question and when this is found a positive coming from the relay G circuit is taken by the seeker brush F8, it causes the pull of the comparatively high resistance relay RS in series with electro RF.
The YF resistor in parallel with the RS relay is of comparatively low value, it is used to test the operation of the electro. The LRB metal rectifier prevents the connection of a positive coming from the electro circuit to the RS relay and to the F8 brush.
The RS relay by attracting to the rsl frame disconnects the YF resistor, to the rs2 and rs3 armatures it extends the polarity through the VT relay and the searcher brush F7 to mark the vertical AWP bank of the final selector, at the rs4 armature it extends a corresponding marking up to the AWM vertical bench of the marker, to the rs5 armature, fig. 2, it connects the high resistance HR relay to the finder's brush? 2 so that it attracts in series with the final selector switch relay which is not attracted at the moment, finally to the rs7 armature, fig. 2, it closes the own control circuit of the ascension electro WM of the marker which therefore performs a vertical search.
It should be noted here that the vertical AWM bench of the marker, fig. 4, is multiple with the AWP vertical banks of all the final selectors served by the group pilot in question so that it will be assumed that the marking polarity applied to the VT relay is extended through the vertical bank of the final selector to mark a particular level of the vertical marker bank corresponding to the level on which the final selector brushes have remained.
Therefore when the marker brushes are brought up to the marked level, the VT relay attracts and the vtl armature, fig. 2, open the electro VM control circuit and remove the short circuit of the high resistance VTR relay
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
which therefore attracts in series with electro, the latter however does not attract in this circuit.
Retort the markers of the two group pilots can be searching at the same time for simultaneous calls it is important to ensure that the respective 7T relays will be operated only by their own marking switches and for this purpose the vertical broom of the marker number 1 is connected to positive and the vertical brush of marker number 2 is connected to negative as the counter of the alternate connections of the plane.
In addition, as the VT relays are known to be each connected to the central point of a resistor mounted as a potentiometer, it is necessary to incorporate MRA metal rectifiers in their circuit connected in opposite directions so that there is no there is no danger of a marker stopping on a level marked by a researcher associated with another marker.
It can also happen that the two VT relays are switched together because the seekers of the two group pilots are on corresponding levels. Under these conditions, the rectifiers have no effect, but as the two VT relays have the same polarity, no current flows and therefore cannot result in active operation.
The HR relay by attracting the hrl armature closes a local circuit for blocking the ST relay, fig. 5, at the hr2 armature it disconnects the SA and SB relays and '2 the hr3 armature it provides a local blocking circuit to the RS relay. Coming back asfokctionnetent of relay VTR we see that at armature vtrl the comrt-circuit of its winding is open at another point,: armature vtr2, fig. 4, the electro of rotation RM of the marker is attracted and to the armature vtr4 a positive is connected to the F6 brush of the seeker to attract the electro of rotation IM of the final selecter.
When the RM rotating electro attracts
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
fully the rm switch springs open and disconnect the short-circuit positive on one side of the GA relay winding, and furthermore when the IRM rotation electro of the final selector operates fully , the associated springs r close and connect the positive to the brush and to the researcher's bench F5 to attract the relay GA 'by means of a winding in series with the resistors YA and YB. The GA relay to the ga2 and ga3 armatures opens the circuits of the two rotation electros which release.
An interaction is therefore established between the final selector and marker rotation electrodes and the GA relay so that when the final selector brushes reach the eleventh position, the marker brushes will have been brought to a complementary position corresponding to the busy contact in question.
In the eleventh position the cam springs S of the final selector operate and connect a positive through the bank and the finder brush F4 to maintain GA in series with the EC relay which also attracts. The GA relay, remaining blocked, prevents any subsequent interaction between the rotation electrodes, while the EC relay to the ec2 and ec3 armature connects the EL and 00 relays respectively to the finder brush F1.
It will be noted here that. All the contacts of the bench Fl of the researcher corresponding to the final selectors serving the same group of one hundred lines are easily connected and connected to a particular brush of the marker as shown in the plan and it is therefore obvious that the Finder brush F1 selects the correct group of 100 lines, the marker brush selects the contact in the group of 100 lines which has been selected and found occupied by the final selector.
If the contact in question does not have associated auxiliary lines it is connected directly to the positive which extends through the marker brush and the research brush.

chear to attract the CO relay. The Co relay blocks the neck armature and the co2 armature short-circuits the winding. (The high resistance of the HR relay to attract the switching relay H of the final selector. The attraction of the relay when the brushes are in the eleventh position causes the busy tone to be sent to the calling line and the HR relay is short-circuited and released by the H relay blocking armature.
The hr relay in turn releases the ST and Rs relays at the respective hrl and hr3 armatures. As a result of the release of the rs3 armature, the own control circuit of the RM rotation electro of the marker closes, the marker brings its brushes to the end of the bench and returns to the rest position for which the circuit is opened to the RMl shaft springs and transferred to the seeker's RF rotation electro. The researcher in his turn advances his brushes to the end of the bench and returns to the normal position, the circuit is open to the shaft springs NFl.
During the operations of returning the switches to the rest position, a circuit is closed in the group pilot unit by means of the shaft springs NM2 or NF2 and the armature at rest st5 to attract. the RG relay, fig. 5, ce- him-: ci gives a release guard by opening the attraction circuit of the SA and SB relays and temporarily transferring the starting circuit to the other group control device.
If the switch does not return to standby within a reasonable time, the permanent connection of a negative through the armature rg, fig. 5, to common wire 13 causes the arcing of a release alarm.
If the line in question has associated auxiliary lines, the marker bank contact will be connected to an ALH4 bank contact of the corresponding auxiliary line finder, the first line of the group of auxiliary lines.
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
As in these conditions the marker does not find a positive, a short-circuit is not placed at the terminals of the high resistance EL relay, fig. 2, it therefore attracts in series with the CO relay which remains in the normal position. The relay EL is blocked by means of the armature el3 in series with the electro of ascension VM of the marker, h the armature e12 it extends the positive by the intermediary of the brush F1 of the researcher and the brush of the marker selected to mark the first contact of the group of auxiliary lines in the ALH4 bank, at the ell armature it extends the positive through the winding / low resistance of the EC relay to the finder's brush F6 for attract the final selector rotation electro.
The final selector is therefore placed in the twelfth position from or. he rinsed in the normal position. The EL relay to the e14 armature, fig. 3, closes the own control circuit of the electro ALM of the AIH auxiliary line finder which thereby drives its brushes in search of the position marked by the marker and corresponding to the first line of the auxiliary group associated with the busy line in question.
When this is found the lG relay attracts when the alm switch springs open and the lg5 armature temporarily disconnects the control electro ALm, to the lgl armature it prepares the circuit of the upper winding of the lH relay in series with the lower winding of the 1G relay leading to the brush and the ALH3 bench which connect to the private contacts of the auxiliary lines. If the first line is occupied the ALH3 brush will encounter a positive so that the lH relay will not attract and that when the alm switch springs close the lG relay will be short-circuited and release, the result is that the ALH switch will advance. of a new step.
This action is repeated automatically until a free line is found and it will be understood that the contacts of the group in the bank ALH1 cor-

respondaat to the auxiliary group of lines are connected to the sand and ..: is to the earth through the intermediary of the marking circuit so that the relay 1G can attract and prepare the test circuit of the relay 1H at each step of the switch ALH.
When a free line is found, the 1H relay attracts via the negative supplied by the cut-off relay of the subscriber's line circuit, it is blocked by the intermediary of its lower winding and the preliminary contact lhl, , armature lh2 the upper high resistance winding of relay lH is short-circuited and relay 1G is blocked by its low resistance lower winding in series with the called party's line circuit cut-off relay.
The file selected is therefore kept and the 1G relay to the lg5 armature keeps the electro control circuit open, to the lg4 armature it connects a positive to the brushes and to the ALH5 and ALH6 banks to give two markings in the transmitter bank S3, as determined by the flying connection shown in the plan, to control the emission of a train of pulses necessary to put the final selector in position on the auxiliary line found by the switch ALH.
The 1H relay, therefore, the lh3 armature extends the positive of the springs of the electro of the emitter sm towards the brush of the seeker F4 in order to attract the ascension electro of the final selector which. consequently raises the brushes by one step, at the end of the attraction of the electro the springs v close and connect a positive through the bench and the brush F5 of the seeker to attract the electro control of the SM transmitter.
The electro SM therefore prepares the advancement of the brushes Sl to S3 on the next group of contacts and at the end of the attraction of the electro opens the springs sm which releases the ascending electro of the final selector. This action is repeated until the final selector is brought to the desired level,
<Desc / Clms Page number 13>
at this moment the S3 broom of the transmitter meets the first earthed mark and when the springs open the SS relay draws in series with the ascension electro.
The SS relay is blocked by means of its armature ssl and n the armature ss3 attracts the relay SZ which is blocked and in turn, to the armatures sz2 and sz3, transfers the control circuit of the electro d The 1VM rise to the rotary solenoid RM of the final selector and at the same time short-circuits and releases the SS relay. When the ss2 armature returns to the normal position, the final selector rotation electro works in conjunction with the transmitter control electro and when the final selector brushes have been placed on the desired contact. the transmitter S3 brush meets the second grounded marking. When the springs sm open, the CO relay attracts in series with the final selector rotation electro and causes the H relay to attract to connect the final selector to the auxiliary line.
The final selector makes the connection and performs its functions in the usual way, while the release of the HR relay, coming after the pulling of the relay II of the final selector causes the release of the group pilot device which returns to idle and remains available for a new job.
If the auxiliary line finder does not find a free line, the BC relay attracts through the brush and the ALH2 bench at the start of the second revolution, to the bc3 and be4 reinforcements it marks positions 1 and 11 in the bench of l 'emitter S. The relay BC to the armature be2 attracts the 1H relay which blocks and makes the emitter work in connection with the final selector as described so that the brushes of the latter are brought to the eleventh position on the first level. Thereby the final selector transmits the busy tone to the calling line in the manner described above and the group pilot apparatus is released and becomes available for new use.
@
<Desc / Clms Page number 14>
j in the event that the final selectors are arranged to serve groups of 200 lines, the WS relay in the group pilot unit attracts, under suitable conditions, via the positive coming from the final selector%: through the brush and the bank F3, to the wsl frames at:; s- # it swaps the connections to the marker brushes so as to establish the link to the correct group of 10C lines.
The TA and RG delayed alarm relays, fig. 5, are intended to supervise the operation of the group pilot apparatus and in the event that it does not fulfill its function within a determined time an alarm is emitted and the group pilot in question is taken out of service.
With regard to the operation of these relays, it should be remembered that the ST relay operates immediately as soon as the group pilot is put into service and consequently, in its armature it connects the TA relay to the common wire terminating at the cam S controlled by a motor. The cam is also controlled on the same axis as the cam S and the function of these is to give positive pulses alternately to the common wires shown, at intervals of 6 seconds for example.
When the S pulse is sent, the TA relay attracts and blocks on its other winding, at the armature ta2 it prepares the relay RG for the reception of the pulse 2, at the armature ta3 it prepares the circuit to wire 10 going to the supervisory alarm device. if the group pilot device does not fulfill its function during the allocated period - the TA relay remains attracted and upon receipt of laapulasion 2 the RG relay attracts and blocks in series with the ST relay.
The RG relay the rg2 armature connects a negative through resistor to wire 10 to operate

the supervisory alarm device, to the rg5 and rg4 armatures it connects a positive to the common wires 11 and 12 to operate the rack and office alarms,; .. the rg5 armature it routes the other calls intended for. this group pilot towards the other group pilot, at the rg6 frame it opens the marking to occupancy towards the vertical bench; on the rg7 armature it opens the research finder's ascension electro circuit and on the rg8 armature, fig. 5, it causes the lighting of the supervision lamp LP, individual to the faulty group pilot device.
The office supervisor is informed of the fault that has occurred and by following the chain of alarms the faulty group pilot is quickly located and the fault can be resolved without delay.
It should be noted that if the circuit of the final selector referred to here is intended for switches which at the moment of release advance to the twelfth step in a level and then fall back vertically, the invention is also applicable. There are final selectors of other constructions in which the release is effected by a retrograde movement following the path taken for the positioning of the brushes. Furthermore, the invention is not necessarily limited to switches with two movements, it can be applied to switches having a uni-directional movement.
It is also possible by suitable modifications of the circuit to use the eleventh contacts of the different levels as auxiliary lines and in these conditions it is arranged so that the occupancy circuit is rendered ineffective when the switch is switched on. brought directly to eleventh position.
