<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"DRIVE PLATE MECHANISM
The present invention relates to a drive plate mechanism.
According to one embodiment of the invention, the mechanism comprises a shaft surrounded by a tube or a tuba / lar member joined to the shaft, and a drive plate member which also surrounds the shaft and is moved by the tube. (or else the driving plate transmits the movement to the tube), via at least one annular bearing arranged between the tube and the driving plate in a direction transverse to the shaft.
According to another embodiment of the invention, the mechanism comprises a shaft surrounded by a tube or an element
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
tubular joined to the shaft and to a drive plate element which also surrounds the shaft and which receives its movement from the tube (or else the drive plate transmits the movement to the tube) via at least two annular bearings which surround the tube and are separated from each other and which are each housed between the tube and the drive plate.
The invention makes it possible to considerably reduce the harmful thrust force which was exerted until now along the shaft.
Preferably, the annular bearing surrounds the tube and the drive plate surrounds the annular bearing. Also preferably, the two rings or cages of the annular bearings are arranged at a distance from each other on the opposite sides and equidistant from the point of meeting of the tube and the shaft.
The tube may be mounted at a fixed angle relative to the shaft, or it may be pivotally mounted on the shaft and be provided with means for adjusting the angle it forms with the shaft and fix it in the adjusted position, or the tube may be pivotally mounted on the shaft and be provided with weights, so that the weights act by central force to increase the angle formed by the tube relative to the shaft , when the speed of the shaft increases. The drive plate member is preferably non-rotatable and can be pivotally joined to a compass circle by means of pivots or journals, which compass circle in turn can be pivotally mounted to a fixed frame or housing. by means of other pins or journals.
In this manner, the drive plate member receives a rolling or "gyroecope" motion during rotation of the shaft, when the tube is disposed at an angle to the shaft.
In order to better understand the invention and its practical realization, it will be described below with reference
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is an axial sectional view of a drive plate mechanism produced according to the invention, and
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken along line 2-2 of FIG.
A designates the drive shaft in which the pivot A1 is mounted transversely on which is mounted a sleeve or tube B provided with weights B1, B1, at the opposite ends thereof and arranged on the opposite sides of its axis, c 'that is to say offset with respect to each other by 180 degrees.
This tube is cut at B2, B2 to allow it to oscillate around the pivot A1 and each cut portion is offset with respect to the weights, to. this same end, 180 degrees. Two cages or ball bearing raceways B4, B5 surround these tubes or sheaths B and are mounted on them.These raceways are arranged on either side of the pivot A1 and equidistant from it for purposes balancing. A non-rotating drive plate C surrounds these raceways and is mounted on them. The bearing B4 is interposed between the tube and the drive plate in the transverse direction of the shaft A, rod indicated by the line X - Y.
Likewise, the bearing B5 is interposed between the tube and the drive plate in the direction of the line X1- Y1, transversely to the shaft A. This drive plate is provided with pivots or journals C1,0 ci, mounted in a circle of compass D, which in turn is journalled to a housing E by pivots or journals E1, E1.
The drive plate loses a projection C2 which is joined by a ball joint connection C3 to an element F which must be moved in a reciprocating motion, this element being able to be joined to another device such as a saw frame. F1 carrying a saw blade F2 acting on the part F3.
When the weights B1, B1 are near the shaft A,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
tube B is in its neutral position and no driving action results, but when the speed of shaft 4 increases, the weights B1, B1 move apart under the effect of centrifugal force, so tilting the tube B by an increasing amount relative to the shaft A and therefore increasing the length of the stroke of the reciprocating member. The transmission of the force from the tube B to the driving plate C is effected by the bearings B4, B5
