ARTICULATED FAIRING for AIRCRAFT RODES.
The present invention consists of an articulated fairing covering the wheel of an aircraft in order to reduce its resistance to. advancement in the air and can be opened or closed by means of a control actuated by the pilot.
It is characterized by the fact that in the flight or closed position, the wheel can be completely enclosed in the fairing which, therefore, presents to the air flow, a continuous surface, resistance to the advancement is then minimum.
In the landing or open position, part of the fairing opens, revealing the wheel, or the part of the wheel which must make contact with the ground. The continuity of the surface of the fairing then being broken, the resistance to the advancement of the latter becomes important. This phenomenon is used to allow a more pronounced plunoment angle and to constitute an aerodynamic brake and, in certain cases, an increase in lift.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In a first form of the invention (FIG. I), the lower part of the fairing opens in two parts articulated around two substantially horizontal axes located approximately at the level of the axis of the wheel.
In a second form of the invention (Fig. 2), the lower part of the fairing opens in one piece around a substantially horizontal axis and placed on one side of the wheel.
In a third form of the invention (Fil ;. 3), the fairing opens for the most part in two or more parts around axes located near the upper part of the wheel.
In a fourth form of the invention (Fig. 4), the lower parts of the fairing pivot about transverse axes.
The forms listed above are illustrative and not limiting.
