<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

2. L'organe
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Two-stroke internal combustion engine with equicurrent sweeping.
Two-stroke internal combustion engines with equicurrent sweeping, in which the air is admitted through openings on one side of the working chamber, and the flue gases are discharged out of the chamber. cylinder by valves arranged on the other side of the working chamber, have the drawback that not only these valves are subjected to very high temperatures, but also, because of the dimensions given by the power of the engine, the section available for the outlet of the combustion gases is relatively small.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks and to make it possible to run at high speed internal combustion engines with equicurrent scanning,
The invention consists in that the exhaust of the combustion gases is divided into at least two phases, these gases leaving the cylinder, in the first phase, through openings provided on one of the neutral sides of the cylinder. cylinder and controlled first by the piston, then by a special device and, in another phase, by openings placed on the other side of the cylinder's dead center and controlled independently of the piston, the exit of gases from the cylinder. combustion by the member controlled by the piston being interrupted at the latest after the start of the sweeping operation.
The exhaust openings controlled by the piston and by a special device can, after completion of the preliminary exhaust, be connected in parallel with other openings released later by the piston and be connected to the same pipe. scanning. The organ governing the lights controlled first by the piston preferably has the shape of a rotary slide which turns n and 1/2 times faster than the motor, n being any integer.
An exemplary embodiment of the subject of the invention has been shown in the appended drawing in which:
Fig. This is a schematic section.
Figs. 2 to 5 represent the mode of operation of the object of the invention in the case of an internal combustion engine represented schematically and differing slightly from that of FIG. 1.
Fig. is a time section diagram.
In the drawings, details which are not necessary to understand the invention have been left out for the sake of clarity.
The piston goes back and forth in cylinder 2 which is in-

surrounded by a casing 3 and it transmits to the crankshaft (not shown), by means of the connecting rod 4, the forces exerted on it by the combustion gases. In the cylinder head
6 provided with cooling chambers 5 are arranged the exhaust valves 7 and 8 as well as the fuel valve 9. The exhaust valves are controlled in a known manner, for example by means of actuated cams 10 and 11. from the crankshaft, and at the end of the expansion stroke, they cause the working chamber 13 of the cylinder to communicate with the exhausts 13 and 14 which may, for example, be provided with cooling liners 15 and 16.
At the neutral point opposite the cylinder head, openings controlled by the piston are provided, which can be divided into rows of openings 17 and 18 successively discovered by the piston. These rows of lights communicate on the one hand with the free air through rooms 19 and 20. The row of lights
17 can be joined, by a controlled member 31 or 22, to the exhausts 23 or 24. The arrival of fuel to the cylinder can be done in any way, with or without air injection, by means of controlled valves or open nozzles.
The slots 17 and 18 controlled by the piston can extend over the entire circumference of the cylinder. The two rows, or only one, can open out tangentially into the cylinder, as also a part of the openings can be directed towards the cylinder head, while the others open into the working chamber perpendicular to the axis of the cylinder. Instead of a single exhaust valve, several could be provided.
The engine which is the subject of the invention operates as follows:
Towards the end of the expansion stroke, the crank 30, which rotates in the direction of the arrow 31, and the piston 1, are in the position shown in fig. 2. The organ
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
control 22 puts in communication the exhaust 24 and the working chamber 12 of the cylinder, before or as soon as the piston 1 in position a has uncovered the ports 17. The exit of the combustion gases takes place in a first phase by the lights 17 which, however, cease to be in communication with the exhaust 24, for example from position b of the crank, as soon as the crank 30 has come to position c (Fig. 3).
At this time, the exhaust valve 8 is already open or begins to open, so that in another phase the combustion gases can leave the working chamber of the cylinder through the exhaust 14. After that the pressure has equalized in the cylinder, from point c (fig. 4) takes place through the ports 18 and, after the member 22 has been suitably controlled, by the lights 17, l Air inlet, for example from the compressed air container.32 to which is connected a compressor not shown. By means of this air the cylinder is completely swept and filled with fresh air for the subsequent combustion.
The exhaust valve 8 is closed from point e (fig. 5), so that the cylinder is still charged up to point f, by means of air arriving through ports 17.
When the piston has reached the vicinity of the upper dead center, the fuel is injected in a known manner into the compressed air, after which the expansion stroke begins and with it, a new driving stroke of the piston.
In fig. 6, there is shown ah by means of a diagram, the operating mode described above. above the time axis t on the upper part of the figure, sections .9 have been transferred. released by the exhaust member 8 and in the lower part of the figure, the sections released by the slots 17., the arranged on the side affixed to the exhaust member 8. and the surface V the section as a function of time for the escape through the openings 17 and the surfaces El, E2, the admission through the openings 17 or 18.
While the combustion gases leaving the cylinder through the exhaust 24 (fig. 1) due to the pressure drop inherent in them, the exhaust gases exit through the valves 7 and 8. advantageously, thanks to the fact that a device known per se, produces a vacuum. When the gases which exit through the exhausts 13 and 1.4 in the two xth phase are further cooled, the device necessary to obtain the vacuum may be smaller than previously, which is another advantageous advantage of the subject of the invention.
