Selle-ci prend fin aussitôt que le piston moteur proprement dit, après avoir opéré une nouvelle aspiration d'air, est revenu au point mort du bas de sa course. A partir de là, l'air comprimé ainsi produit et surchauffé, est refoulé dans le cylindre moteur;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Engine with internal combustion and air compression.
This invention relates to a prime mover with internal combustion and air compression, provided with a piston compressor of compressed air and strongly heated to be introduced into the engine cylinder at the beginning of the fuel charging phase and of heating. air under pressure. The compression of the combustion air takes place in two stages, the first taking place in the engine cylinder on the side of the piston opposite the combustion chamber and the second, which forms the high pressure stage, taking place in the compressor cylinder.
The compressor cylinders are inclined approximately 30 in the direction of rotation and the eccentric axes for controlling the compressor pistons make a greater angle with the main elbow, namely: an angle of 180 minus 50, which is the injection angle, plus the inclination of the compressor cylinders with respect to the main axis, which makes 160, so that a good mass balance results.
A method of constructing the engine according to the invention is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawings.
Fig.l shows a partial longitudinal section of the machine provided with an air cooling system.

opening into the engine cylinder. The ring or distribution discs required for the controlled valves are placed on the elbow shaft.
The ring 5, fixed on a part4de main shaft and provided with corresponding cams, is used to control the exhaust valve r; the curved, disc-shaped arm 6 located near the rear bearing carries the distribution ring 7 which actuates the fuel and compressed air valves, which are not shown in the drawing.
The fresh air intake valves. !!! (fig. 2) are controlled by the cam disc 8 fixed on the other side of the bearing. At the end of the bent shaft is further arranged a cam disc 9 for actuating the fuel pump 10, which is connected to a reservoir 11 of pressurized fuel. A toothed wheel 12 in the form of a helical wheel, by which the lubricating oil pump 13 is controlled, is mounted on the bent shaft d, between the two discs 0 and 9.
As shown in fig.l, the pistons arrive in their lower position almost as far as the fand of the cylinders f.
The injection of the mixture of compressed air and fuel takes place in a channel o, which is formed in the bottom of cylinder f.,
The engine operates as follows: the air intended for combustion is drawn from the side of the engine cylinder where the stuffing box is located; it enters through the suction valve m and then is returned, through the channel n, into the space which, in the meantime, has been released by the piston. ±. inside the compressor, which causes it to undergo a first compression corresponding to the reduction in volume produced. The second compression stage, to achieve 30 to 33 atmospheres, is then operated by the compressor piston, which is currently performing its upward stroke.
This saddle ends as soon as the engine piston proper, after having operated a new air intake, has returned to the bottom dead center of its stroke. From there, the compressed air thus produced and superheated, is forced into the engine cylinder;
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
it scrapes the walls and goes beyond the tank through which the fuel is discharged. It is into this current of hot air that the fuel preheated to ignition temperature is injected, and this, so that combustion, which begins immediately, is maintained at the rate of a surplus of air remaining, the quantity of which remains as constant as possible in the aforementioned air stream throughout the duration of the injection.
The instant the compressor piston passes through its top dead center, injection is complete. The combustion gases carry out their expansion until, in a known manner, the relief valve opens, shortly before reaching the neutral point of the top of the stroke and thus the pressure equilibrium is established, then the gases are expelled by the return stroke of the piston. During (this journey, there has already been on the other side of the piston a new intake of fresh air which is, once again, accompanied by a driving stroke, after that, as we have already seen noted, the following power stroke has already started during the phase just described.
In this way, with a single cylinder of normal dimension in correspondence with the stroke space and the adjunct of a smaller cylinder, whose stroke only has a length of about a third of its own, equal work is done. '., that of two cylinders as large as each other and operating as usual according to the four-stroke cycle.
Several groups of cylinders can be installed as described, in the known star shape, which is recommended for practical use in the control of aircraft and for the purpose of obtaining a better balance of the components. masses. In the present case, this arrangement has been omitted in order to simplify the drawings.
