BREVET D'INVENTION Pièce de liaison pour des constructions minières au --------------------------------------------------- moyen de montants en fer.
---------------------------
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

PATENT OF INVENTION Connecting piece for mining constructions at -------------------------------------- ------------- medium of iron uprights.
---------------------------
To make constructions by means of iron uprights sufficiently flexible with respect to the -resion of the rocks in the mines, one inserts, as is known, in suitable places in the uprights (railway rails or other profiled bars), so-called crushing timber, ie wooden beams which at the same time serve for longitudinal stiffening of the construction. It is also necessary to insert connecting pieces between the ends of the uprights and the wooden beams.
There are many, many forms of such connecting pieces in use. Most of them consist of suitably folded flat irons which are provided on the one hand with slots and on the other hand have perforated tabs by means of which they are fixed to the uprights by bolts.
The installation of all these connecting parts requires
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
considerable work and great expense; furthermore, they cannot be made with the wall thickness that would be necessary for the incalculable pressures of the rocks, otherwise they would become too expensive. Finally, they have the drawback that the angles arising from the stamping promote tearing when high stresses are present.
In addition, Z-shaped or double T-shaped profile sections have already been proposed for reinforcing the ends of the uprights and at the same time for receiving round crushing timber. According to the present invention, a section of a double T iron with wide wings which is deformed in a particular way is used for forming the connecting piece. The deformation consists of placing the wing halves on one side of the web at an outward angle and folding the angle legs of the other wing halves so that 'it forms a hoof embracing the head and the pad of the upright.
This deformation can be carried out in a very simple and inexpensive manner; notches in the wings, with the drawbacks indicated above, are not necessary. Neither should any means of fixing be provided between the connecting piece and the upright nor between the connecting piece and the crushing wood, because by means of an appropriate choice of the angle of the angle of the halves of wings which embrace the crush wood, the latter first does not touch the soul and therefore, by the pressure of the rocks, the other wing halves are moved towards each other so that they clamp the end of the upright together.
The drawing shows an embodiment of the object of the invention. fig. 1 is a front view.
Fig. 2 is a top view.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Fig. 3 is a side view.
The jiaison piece is manufactured using the section of Gray joist shown in chain lines in fig. 1.
The wing halves a located below the web b are angled outwards so that the wooden beam (crush wood) can be inserted without coming into contact with the web b. The other wing halves d are angled inward so that their interior surfaces are perpendicular to the web and the angle legs are folded over such that they properly surround the mushroom and the shoe of the rail shown in dotted lines in fig 2. The bending of the wing halves is such that the wood beam comes into contact only with the wing halves at the following goal.
As soon as the finished construction comes under pressure, the wing halves a are forced outwards and rotate, as the web b is notably weaker, somewhat around the x axis with the halves d The wings d so that the wing halves d pivot inward and jam the upright and that attachment of the connecting piece to the upright is unnecessary. A fastening to the wooden beam is also completely superfluous, as can be seen directly in the drawing.
In the exemplary embodiment shown, a railway rail has been indicated as the upright in broken lines, but the upright may consist of other suitable profiled bars, as has been indicated for example by the dotted lines at the bottom. fig.
