L'invention a pu être réalisée grâce à la connais- sance de la cause et de l'effet du renversement latéral des motooy- clettesoLa cause d'un renversement de l'espèce est le dérapage de la roue avant ou de la roue arrière hors du sens de la marohe.Quand la roue arrière dérape vers la gauche(ou vers la droite)la motocyclette tombe à droite(ou à gauche);
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
1 En cas de renversement latérale la machine doit être ténue à une distance suffisante au dessus du sol pourque la jambe du con- ducteur qui se trouve en dessous ne soit pas écrasée entre la moto- cyclette et le sol;
2 L'enfoncement de la roue avant dans le sol et la créa- tion corollaire d'un point de freinage dangereux à l'extrémité avant du véhicule doivent être rendus impossibles;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
La tige protectrice offre ensuite au conducteur une protection lors du choc du véhicule sur un mur ou une clôture;
La tige protectrice ne gène d'aucune manière le moto- cycliste.L'optimum de position de la tige protectrice est détermi- né par la position du centre de gravité du véhicule.La tige proteo- trioe se trouvera de préférence directement en dessous de la tige du guidon sur le cadre de la motocyclette;ses bras peuvent être rectilignes ou courbés, Les bras de la tige protectrice peuvent être recourbés vers le haut sur la direotion circulaire que suit le gui- don quand on guide le véhicule afin de ménager une distance aussi grande que possible entre le point d'appui créé par la tige protec- trioe et le centre de gravité du véhicule.La tige proteotrioe peut être d'une pièce ou bien être formée par deux bras séparés ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
La figure I montre en perspeotive une motooyolette pourvue d'une tige protectrice p formée par une tige transversale;cette tige est fixée à demeure sur la partie antérieure du cadre A.Dans ce des- sin et dans tous les autres dessins,la tige protectrice p est repré- sentée sous forme de tige reotiligne.Les lignes d'assemblage à points- barrés entre les points terminaux de la tige protectrice 2,du marche- pied 1. et du bord arrière du coffre à outils w forment un triangle dont la surface coïncide avec le sol en cas de chute latérale du vé- hicule;

"Protector device for motorcyclists"
The present invention relates to a safety device for motorcyclists; its objective is to protect the motorcyclist from injuries which may be caused to him when the motorcycle tilts sideways. The technique has not yet been realized. hitherto read protective device for this purpose.
The invention was made possible thanks to the knowledge of the cause and the effect of the lateral overturning of the moto-cletteso The cause of a reversal of the species is the skidding of the front wheel or the rear wheel out of the direction of travel. When the rear wheel skids to the left (or to the right) the motorcycle falls to the right (or to the left);
in this case, the front wheel is directed obliquely to the right (or to the left) in front of the engine with a considerable weight when the front wheel skids to the right (or to the left) the motorcycle-, falls on the left side (or the right side) and the front wheel is directly in front of the engine
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Seen horizontally, the engine is supported by the footboard when the motorcycle strikes the ground laterally. The handlebars when it strikes the ground pushes the front wheel into .. the latter.
There is thus produced at the front end of the vehicle an extremely dangerous braking point which the main weight of the machine incorporated in the engine must resist and this weight must rear up and tend to overturn over this braking point. When overturning, the driver's leg which is caught under the machine is in danger of being crushed by it, so the machine overturns, it can reach the whole body of the operator and injure him in several places.
To protect the motorcyclist from this danger, the following desiderata must be fulfilled:
1 In the event of a lateral overturn, the machine must be kept at a sufficient distance above the ground so that the driver's leg, which is below, is not crushed between the motorcycle and the ground;
2 The sinking of the front wheel into the ground and the corollary creation of a dangerous braking point at the front end of the vehicle must be made impossible;
3 The mass projected on the ground in the initial direction of rolling must be away from the conductor which has been overturned.
These desiderata are realized by the present invention. The device which is the subject of the present invention consists of a transverse rod assembled rigidly with the front part of the motorcycle frame; this transverse rod protrudes to the right and to the left below the handlebars and in the event of lateral overturning of the motorcycle. machine, it keeps it at a sufficient distance above the ground so that the operator is not injured - by his machine. This protective rod receives the main shock during the overturning and supports the machine above the leg of the machine. driver.
Furthermore, the protective rod is arranged in such a way as to prevent the penetration of the front wheel into the ground during overturning and thus
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the creation of the dangerous braking action. Then, this protective rod keeps the overturned vehicle away from the driver.
The protective rod then provides the driver with protection when the vehicle hits a wall or fence;
it protects the fuel tank from impact on the ground, prevents it from being defonated and thus prevents ignition of the fuel which could be caused by the formation of sparks in contact with stony ground, While the conductor of until now very often avoided braking suddenly for fear that the maohine does not slip, tip over and fall on him, he will no longer have to fear this danger in the future with a motorcycle fitted with the rod of protection, that to a much lesser extent and by suddenly activating the rear wheel brake it will be able to avoid many accidents.
The protective rod does not interfere with the motorcyclist in any way. The optimum position of the protective rod is determined by the position of the vehicle's center of gravity. Preferably, the protective rod is located directly below the vehicle. handlebar stem on the motorcycle frame; its arms may be straight or curved, The arms of the protective post may be curved upward on the circular direction that the handlebar follows when guiding the vehicle in order to provide a distance as large as possible between the fulcrum created by the protective rod and the center of gravity of the vehicle. The proteotrioe rod can be in one piece or be formed by two separate arms;
the tion on the frame can be done using one or more sleeves provided on the frame, by screw devices, clamps or by a homogeneous assembly, for example by welding. A neck can be introduced. - sheet of elastic material at the point of attachment or at the points of attachment between the protective rod and the frame of the machine. The proteotrioe rod can be reinforced by struts which reach the various points of the frame, for example under the fuel tank to the upper frame tubes or to the frame tube which leads
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
to the engine from the steering head.
the shock in the event of a fall is distributed over various points of the frame. The protective rod can be used as a support for leg guards. As raw material for the manufacture of the protective rod, it is preferable to use strong shatter-resistant steel, U-T-profile or tubeo
The ends of the protective rod have a suitable shape for impact on the ground, eg flattened, rounded or have a wide part. On the protective rod, shock absorbers can be provided.
The accompanying drawings show an embodiment of the invention.
Figure I shows in perspective a motorcycle equipped with a protective rod p formed by a transverse rod; this rod is permanently attached to the front part of the frame A. In this drawing and in all the other drawings, the protective rod p is represented as a reotilinear rod. The assembly lines with crossed-out points between the end points of the protective rod 2, of the step 1. and of the rear edge of the tool box w form a triangle whose surface coincides with the ground in the event of a lateral fall of the vehicle;
they show that the danger of crushing the leg under the machine due to insufficient space is avoided Figure 2 is a top plan view of the motorcycle showing the mudguards k, the carrier luggage ±, the saddle s, the fuel tank b, the side steps f and the arms protruding to the right and left of the protective rod p. the swivel handlebar located above 1 is indicated by dotted lines. assembly between pf and.!. are in this figure also in crossed out points.
Figure 3 shows a motorcycle without a protective rod when it is overturned when. its lateral part hits the ground. The left handle h of the handlebar 1 is
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
pushed by the shock violently towards the left of the machine, the front wheel v thus sinks into the ground so that at the front end of the vehicle, at r,
There is an extremely dangerous braking action. The mass of the motor m is lifted by the foot pedal f so that it is much higher than the braking point r We can clearly see that only one short distance between the ground AB and the overturned vehicle which, as a result of the ohoo and the forward projection, constitutes a danger for the leg of the motor trapped under it
Figure 4 shows in perspective a motorcycle provided with the protective rod in the case of an ohute similar to that of Figure 3. As seen,
the steering head o is lifted by the protective rod p so that the handlebar 1 can no longer come into contact with the ground the front wheel v which is not driven into the ground o retains its rolling ability so that it can continue to roll in the direction AB towards which the mass tends to progress by virtue of the force of inertia.
As the mass of the engine m is behind the protective rod 2 the overturned vehicle must pivot around the braking point d created on the ground by the lower end of the proteotrioe rod p. The figure also shows that the protective rod reserves sufficient clearance for the placement of the rider's leg.
Figure 5 is a top plan view of the vehicle tipped to the left as a result of the front wheel skidding to the right. This is a particularly dangerous fall. The reference AB denotes the initial direction of travel in which also acts the propulsive force of the mass. The longitudinal axis of the vehicle which is indicated by the assembly line of the normal running points c, cl1 of the front wheel and the rear wheel. of the force AB at an acute angle <. ; therefore the front wheel v is in the direction of the force A = B directly in front of the motor m.
When tumbling to the left and impacting the handlebar 1, it occurs as a result of penetration @
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
of the front wheel v in the ground a dangerous braking point r by which the mass of the motor m lifted by the step f and therefore being hurozontally higher is - tumbled in the direction of the arrow Y in which the driver is also knocked down.
Figure 6 is a top plan view of a motorcycle provided with a protective rod p in the event of a fall similar to that of Figure 5. The lower end of the protective rod p touches the ground at a point obliquely to the left in front of the mass of the motor m which tends to progress in the direction aB The steering head o is lifted from the ground by the left arm of the protective rod p and the mass of the machine m is pushed to the right in the direction of the arrow! .. The front wheel will retain its rolling ability; it therefore continues to roll and bearing the weight of the vehicle supports the pivoting of the motorcycle around the axle p (point d in figure 4) in the direction of arrow Z.
