<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Elle vise plus particulièrement un certain mode d'ap- plication,ainsi que certains modes de réalisation, desdites dispo- sitions;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

"Improvements made to internal combustion engines, especially those with solidett injection.
The invention relates to internal combustion engines; and it concerns more particularly, because it is in their case that its application seems to offer the most interest, but not exclusively, among these engines, those with solid injection, that is to say in which the injection is ensured without the intervention of air, under pressure,
Its object, above all, is to make these engines such that combustion takes place there under better conditions than hitherto.
It consists, mainly, in extending the outlet orifice of the injectors to be fitted to the engines of the type in question by a duct formed in a room subjected to the heat of the combustion chamber, in order to cause heating, or even vaporization of the injected charge,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
It consists, apart from this main provision, of certain other provisions, which are preferably used at the same time and which will be discussed more explicitly below.
It relates more particularly to a certain mode of application, as well as to certain embodiments, of said provisions;
and it relates more particularly still, and this as new industrial products, to the engines of the type in question comprising application of said provisions, the special elements specific to their establishment, as well as the fixed or mobile assemblies comprising such engines.
And it can, in any case, be clearly understood with the aid of the additional description which follows, as well as the appended drawing, which supplement and drawing are, of course, given above all by way of indication,
The single fig of this drawing shows, in axial section, the combustion chamber of a cylinder of an internal combustion engine constructed in accordance with the invention.
According to the invention, and more particularly according to that of its modes of application, as well as those of the embodiments of its various parts, to which it seems that preference should be granted, proposing to To establish an internal combustion engine with solid injection, one goes about it as follows, or analogous manner.
The whole of this engine is established, with the exception of the injector to be made to include it as well as the elements which must constitute its combustion chamber, in any suitable manner, for example so as to constitute an engine with cy - vertical linder 1 in which moves a piston 2 and whose cylinder head is located at the upper part.
As regards, now, the injector 3, as well as the constituent elements of the combustion chamber 4, they are established in such a way that the outlet orifice of the solid injection injector is extended by a duct. 5 spared
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
in a room 6 subjected to the heat of the combustion chamber, in order to cause heating, or even vaporization, of the injected charge.
For this purpose, for example, an ordinary injector is used, but, instead of mounting it in such a way that its face carrying the outlet orifice is directly in the combustion chamber, the aforesaid part is attached to this face. - this 6
Preferably, the duct 5 is given a very small cross section, either constant over its entire length, or variable and for example gradually increasing while approaching the outlet again, for example / a circular cross section of 0.5 millimeters for an engine of the order of 500 cm3 of cylinder capacity,
This section must moreover be determined experimentally in each case so that the velocity of the liquid injected is sufficient to prevent the deposition in the interior of the conduit 5 of coke or the like resulting from the cracking of the injected hydrocarbons or from a deposit. analogous reaction.
It is understood that said section must depend, in particular, on the volume injected per cycle, on the length of the duct 5, on the number of cycles per unit of time, on the thermal conductivity of the part 6 as well as on the heating at which is subjected this part because of its shape or its position in the combustion chamber. which means that it is impossible to give general rules for the determination of said section and that, as already said, this determination must be made experimentally in each particular case in order to obtain heating or total vaporization or partial load without the duct 5 being blocked.
In order to regulate the heating of the part 5, it is possible, if necessary, to make it include fins to increase the heat transmission. This piece is also made of any suitable metal, for example a steel
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
special heat resistant well if the operating conditions make this desirable.
It is also possible, in order to allow the heat of the combustion chamber 4 to act sufficiently on the part 6, extend the latter towards the inside of the combustion chamber by a significant amount, for example from one to two centimeters for an engine with a displacement of the order of 500 m³, which leads to giving the duct 5 a longer length which may be two to three centimeters in the particular case envisaged, the thickness of the walls surrounding said decreasing duct, preferably progressively approaching the outlet.
Thus, in the example given above of a 0.5 mm duct peroé in a part 6 extending 15 mm into the combustion chamber, the thickness of the walls surrounding said duct can be given a value decreasing from 8 to 10mm at the base to 1.5 to 2mm at the outlet.
In any case, an improvement in combustion will be obtained, and it will be possible, with certain suitable embodiments, to use fuels heavier than those presently employed, for example fuel oil at the link of. gas oil,
It is obvious that the arrangements just described can be applied whatever the shape of the combustion chamber 4; however, it seems particularly advantageous to use these arrangements in combination with a combustion chamber surrounding part 6 on all sides,
Preferably, this ohambre is given a shape of revolution around the axis of the duct 5, this axis advantageously coinciding with the axis of the cylinder.
Part 6 is then carried perpendicular to the bottom of the combustion chamber and directs its jet towards the piston.
In order to avoid a torch effect on the latter and to distribute the load well in the combustion chamber, we
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
advantageously provides for an element 7 disposed in the vicinity of the outlet of the duct 5, at least during the time of the injection. this element being such that the jet leaving said outlet strikes it, is sprayed even more on it if it is not already in the vapor state and, in any event, is deflected laterally, preferably in all directions if room 4 surrounds room 6, -
The element 7 is advantageously carried to the piston itself, which is located very close to its top dead center during the extremely short time in which the injection takes place,
This element is then formed in the form of a projection carried by the piston at its center if the part 6 is placed axially, this projection being such that its top, preferably plane, is at the desired distance, for example 0 , 5 mm from the outlet of duct 5, when the piston is at its top dead center,
The arrangements just described lend themselves particularly well to the establishment of a combustion chamber of the type described in patent application n prov.

3'Iocto'brp I933 f with the same name as the present application, that is to say a torus-shaped combustion chamber formed by a cavity carried by the cylinder head and with which the annular peripheral surface of the piston base when the latter is in the vicinity of its top dead center,
It is in fact possible to give the piston base a shape of revolution such that the projection carrying the element 7 is connected tangentially with the peripheral part of said base (which is given, for example, a generally conical shape),
Likewise, the part 6 can be arranged in such a way that its outline extends without detachment on the one hand the walls of the cavity constituting the combustion chamber and,
on the other hand oelle of the central part of the piston base, the whole being made such, as shown in the drawing, that the delimited space
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
by part 6. the internal walls of the aforesaid cavity, and the central part of the piston base, constitutes a volume substantially in the form of a torus,
Preferably, part 6 is given a length such that its outlet is above the median plane of said torus (ie the plane A perpendicular to the axis around which the generator of the torus rotates, at equal distances of the two extreme tangent planes to said torus).
Then from what we obtain, in all cases, an engine whose operation emerges sufficiently from what precedes so that it is useless to enter about it in any additional explanation,
As goes without saying and as it emerges moreover already @ from the above, the invention is in no way limited to that of its modes of application, -no'-, more than to those of the embodiments of its various parts, having been more particularly considered; on the contrary, it embraces all the variations.
