Régulateur automatique de sécurité pour valve automa- ----------------------------------------------------- tique d'alimentation de gaz des brûleurs à gaz.
-----------------------------------------------

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Automatic safety regulator for automatic valve ------------------------------------------ ----------- gas supply gas for gas burners.
-----------------------------------------------
The object of the present invention is an automatic safety regulator intended to be interposed in the control circuit of automatic gas valves, supplying gas burners.
The present device is characterized by the fact that a special valve, interposed in a gas line, is controlled by an expandable and contractable thermostatic cartridge, provided with a conduction capillary tube, so that under the simple heating effect of the tube by a burner flame, the expansion or contraction of the thermostatic cartridge causes the opening or closing of the special valve, thus opening or cutting the supply circuit of the automatic valve, which is thus fixed in turn in the 'open' or 'closed' position.
As soon as the capillary tube is heated by a burner flame, the thermostatic cartridge expands and, by its position in relation to the special valve, opens the latter, which opens the control circuit. of the automatic valve. As soon as there is a voluntary extinction
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
flame of the burner, the heating effect ceases, the capillary tube cools and the thermostatic cartridge contracts, allowing the special valve to close, which closes the valve control circuit automatic.
The appended drawing gives, by way of example, the representation of one of the embodiments of the object of the invention. In this drawing:
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of the complete apparatus, showing the position of the capillary tube around a gas burner.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view.
A thermostatic cartridge a and a capillary tube b, together forming a hermetic thermostatic receptacle, filled with any fluid having a great expansion and contraction property, are arranged so as to house the thermostatic cartridge a in a protective sheath c between a damping spring d and a return spring e and to allow the capillary tube b to have its end f in contact with the flame of a gas burner. The damping spring d, pressed by the thermostatic cartridge a, rests against a special cap with a central hole h, allowing the capillary tube b, screwed into the bottom of the protective sheath c, to pass through. The tightening position of the special plug adjusts the pressure effect of the return spring e on the thermostatic cartridge a.
The protective sleeve c is attached to the special valve! so as to form a single piece of the whole of the apparatus.
The special valve i is formed by a cylindrical body 1 with a polished inner surface, provided with a seat k on which a special valve 1 is placed, controlled on one side by the pressure spring m and the another by the needle in two pieces, nc, provided with a head p, revant
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the needle of the thermostatic cartridge a. The head r of the special valve 1 is fixed to the body j so as to trap a flexible membrane s, forming a sealed wall-seal, of the gas chamber. A plug t with a fixed seal closes the other end of the special valve 1 and presses the pressure spring m, which applies the special valve 1 to its seat k, when the thermostatic cartridge has stopped pressing on the special valve 1 .
The gas enters the special valve 1 through the inlet port u and after passing through the orifice of the seat k and the recessed sides of the special valve 1, escapes through the connection port v.
The device thus described operates as follows:
The safety regulator being installed near the gas burner, the capillary tube b is arranged so as to surround a burner or the flame of an ignition pilot w, in order to be heated by the latter, while the gas inlet and outlet are connected in u and v.
, In its "open" position, the special valve 1 allows the gas to enter through u to let it out through v. The "open" position is obtained after a time of heating the end of the capillary tube b, and the special valve i is kept in this position as long as the capillary tube b is subjected to the heating effect. In this state, the thermostatic cartridge a is expanded, the needle acts on the head of the two-piece needle n-o, which keeps the valve 1 away from its seat k, by compressing the pressure spring m against the plug t. The gas circuit u, v being thus free, the control circuit of the automatic valve is open and allows gas to be supplied to the burners.
The expansion force to be provided by the cartridge a is set once and for all when the device is assembled by
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
screwing the plug ± into the protective sheath c, so as to increase or decrease the stroke of the needle q of the thermostatic cartridge a. The distance the needle .1 is away from the head of needle no, the longer the stroke will be, which requires heating the capillary tube b long enough to obtain sufficient expansion of the thermostatic cartridge a, so that the needle no can release. the special valve 1 of its seat k; on the contrary, the contraction effect will be felt all the more rapidly by the return action of the return spring e, when the capillary tube b will no longer be heated, intentionally or unintentionally, and the cartridge thermostat a will contract.
When the flame of the burner or the pilot w goes out, the capillary tube b cools, the cartridge a contracts and its needle g no longer acts on the head of needle n-o. Under the effect of the relaxation of the return spring e and the effect of the thrust of the pressure spring m, the special valve 1 is applied against its seat k. The special valve i is thus in the "closed" position, this closing causes the obstruction of the control circuit of the automatic valve, which thus cuts off the passage of gas to the burners.
The degree of expansion of the thermostatic cartridge a being able to have an influence on its resistance owing to the variable intensity of the heating of the capillary tube b, the damping spring d allows a backward movement of the bottom of the thermostatic cartridge a, when the point - the g water is at full speed and there is excess heating.
The described safety regulator provides a perfect solution, with maximum flexibility and guarantee of tightness, for the perfect functioning of gas burners, allowing their supply only when the gas discharged burns at the outlet.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
or when an pilot pilot is in continuous operation. In the event of intentional or accidental extinction of the burners or the pilot, the gas supply circuit to the burners is cut automatically and quickly.
Contacting the flame through a conduction capillary tube allows the special valve i to be moved away from the burners and no component to be subjected to the action of heat.
The arrangement described as a whole and represented in the same way only represents one embodiment given by way of nonlimiting example and which can be modified at will without the principle of the invention being changed.
