Jeu d'adresse.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Les différentes caractéristiques et détails de l'invention ressortiront mieux de la description détaillée ci-après d'une forme de réalisation particulière du jeu, représentée à titre d'exemple non limitatif aux dessins annexés, dans lesquels: Fig.l est une vue supérieure en plan du jeu; Fig.2 est une coupe verticale suivant la ligne 11-11 de la Fig.1;
Fig.3 est une coupe horizontale suivant la ligne III-III de la Fig.2;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>

Skill game.
The present invention relates to a game of skill comprising balls which it is a question of directing on a rolling surface towards determined objectives by using directing means of a new kind,
The game according to the invention consists in its essential parts of a plate carrying objectives of any kind to be reached or avoided by the balls, means for bringing the balls to this plate and means for imparting to said plate a movement such as that its perpendicular central axis describes a surface of a vertically oriented cone, this movement being possible at will in either direction,
It immediately appears that an abandoned ball on this board that the player animates due to the movement indicated above, is subject to different movement tendencies.
On the one hand, the successive lifting, step by step of all the portions of the plate located on the same circle around the center, tends to move the ball straight ahead, that is to say therefore in a centrifugal direction. , in the direction of progression
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of the movement of raising or lowering of the edges of the plate, this centrifugal direction movement of the ball, increasing with the speed of the movement of the plate. On the other hand, the ball has a natural tendency to descend along the slope of the plate, and this all the more quickly as the plate is animated by a slower movement.
The player must therefore deal with these two tendencies to study the direction and the speed of the movement that he must impart to the board in order to properly direct the ball, whatever its location on the board, towards the target objective.
The various characteristics and details of the invention will emerge better from the detailed description below of a particular embodiment of the game, shown by way of non-limiting example in the appended drawings, in which: FIG. 1 is a top view in game plan; Fig.2 is a vertical section taken on line 11-11 of Fig.1;
Fig.3 is a horizontal section along the line III-III of Fig.2;
Fig.4 is a vertical section along the line IV-IV of Fig.l; Fig.5 is a detail view, enlarged of a mechanism appearing in Fig.4, and
Fig.6 shows this same mechanism, seen at 90 compared to the view of Fig.5.
The game is enclosed in a box 2 of collars or metal, carried by feet 3 and closed at its upper part by a glass plate 4. It comprises as an essential part a plate 5 at the center of the lower face of which is fixed a rod 6 having a disc 6a by which it is fixed to the plate by screw or the like, and by the triangular ribs 6b of which the plate rests on the upper edges 7a curved with a frustoconical socket 7 fixed by its base on the bottom of the body 2 and inside which extends said rod 6
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
passing through the orifice made by the upper edges of the said bush ... Inside the frustoconical bush 7, is fixed to the bottom of the body,
in the axis of the aforesaid orifice a vertical pivot 8 on which is mounted a loose angle wheel 9 comprising an eccentric lug 9a which penetrates into the hollow end of the rod 6 forming the axis of the plate 5 and thus achieves the permanent inclination of the tray. A shaft 10 journalled in the front side wall of the body and in the support 11 carries a bevel gear 12 introduced into the sleeve 7 through a cutout thereof and attacking the angle wheel 9, It results from the arrangement below -above that by turning the crank 13 wedged on the outer end of the shaft 10, the eccentric lug 9a of the angle wheel 9 forces the axis 6 of the plate to describe a conical surface whose apex corresponds to the upper orifice of the sleeve 7, and consequently, causes the inclination of the plate to pass through all successive directions.
The mechanism set out above, producing the movement of the plate described, could naturally be replaced by any other mechanism capable of performing the same function.
Thus, for example, instead of toothed pinions 9 and 12, pinions with friction drive could be provided.
The teeth of wheel 9 could also be straight to allow the wheel to be driven by a rack. We could also replace the wheel 9 by a chain driven pinion, or finally replace it with a pulley to which the movement is transmitted by leather cord or by cable.
The upper face of the plate 5 constitutes a rolling surface for the balls 14 brought onto it by the fixed rolling track 15 attached to the front side wall of the body and inclined gently towards the plate. This path is formed for example by a metal wire folded parallel to itself with a spacing less than the diameter of the balls, and the folding part of which forms a large loop 15a located previously.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
ference in the center of the plate and through which the balls fall on it. It is obviously established sufficiently high above the plate so as not to form an obstacle to the rolling of the balls over the entire extent of the latter.
The plate is pierced with holes 16 arranged for example on ooncentric circles and some of which constitute objectives to be achieved by the balls, while the others are objectives to be avoided.
These are generally those located near the periphery of the plateau; in fact, since the balls have a natural tendency to always move towards the edge of the board, as a result of the inclination of the latter, there is no merit for the player if the balls reach these holes, and it is logical not to give him any points in this case. The holes located towards the center being the most difficult to reach, they are assigned conventional point values. Practice will teach the player to skillfully maneuver it. crank 13 to impart to the plate 5 the useful movements to direct the balls towards the targeted holes.
The balls stumbling in the holes 16 fall on two inclined planes 17 and 18, sloping downwards in the direction of arrows a and b in Fig.1, and completely hiding the bottom of the body 2. These inclined planes supported by the tabs 19 fixed to the side walls of the body 2 and by the two partitions 20 resting on the bottom of the body are separated by a passage 21, the bottom partition 22 of which is assembled with the two aforementioned partitions 20 which form the sides, this bottom partition 22 comprising two parts sloping towards the same point or connects another corridor 23 sloping towards the front side of the game and separating the inclined plane 18 into two parts.
It is in this corridor 23 of width corresponding to a ball, that the balls played meet one behind the other, after having been directed by the inclined planes 17 and 18 in the corridor 21. The collector corridor 23 is interrupted. at a distance from the wall
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
front of the game, a little larger than the diameter of a ball, and at this point, a shutter 24 in the form of a sector is provided, mounted oscillating on a support 25 consisting of a flat iron bent at right angles and fixed to the bottom of the body, on the side of the side wall of the corridor furthest from the underside of the entrance to the raceway 15 bringing the balls to the plate 5, This shutter normally closes the passage 23 under the action of the attached spring 26 with aeux nipples 24a and 25a respectively of the shutter and its support.
A tab 24b of the shutter, bent at right angles, constitutes a stop abutting against the support 25 to limit the oscillation of the shutter in the closing direction, In the front wall of the game body is mounted a pivot 27 whose rotation in one or the other direction is controlled by the external button 28, and which carries inside the body, an arm 29 which, in the vertical position which it normally occupies by its own weight, has its enlarged end 29a in the form of a ring, in the small gap between the shutter 24 and the front wall of the set.
By turning the button 28 clockwise, the arm 29 is made to oscillate in the corresponding direction, which by its end 29a pushes on a lateral lug 24c of the shutter and forces it against the spring 26, to oscillate outside the corridor 23, this opening of the shutter being limited by the stop against the support 25 (see representation in phantom lines in FIG. 5), of the stop 24d formed by a tab of the shutter, bent at right angles. The opening of the corridor 23 allows the advancement of a ball, which is placed in front of the end of the arm 29.
Said arm 29 is then oscillated in the other direction, the end of which, during this movement, pushes the ball into a sheath 30 of suitable curvature and discharges it at the top of the latter, at the entrance to the path. bearing 15, located in a corner of the ci, 1? se. During this time the shutter 24 is returned to the closed position, under the action of the spring 26. This sheath
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
30 contiguous and fixed to the front wall of the body naturally presents over its entire length a slot 31 for the passage of the arm 29. Similarly, the inclined plane 18 also has a cutout 32 through which the sheath passes and which is sufficient to allow the oscillatory movements of the arm 29.
It should also be noted that the axis of oscillation of said arm is located at a level lower than that of the top of the sheath, so that in its upper unloading position, the arm has a certain inclination which causes the ball transported escapes by itself from the ring 29a to pass over the entrance to the unwinding path. To prevent, as a result of a sudden maneuver of the arm 29, the ball escaping from the ring 29a of said arm does not fall outside the raceway, the top of the sleeve 30 and the start of the raceway 15 are sheltered by a partition 33 forming a bridge forcing the ball to follow said raceway 15.
This has, inside the aforesaid bridge, an elbow 15b in the passage of which the balls brought with violence on the raceway undergo a loss of speed, which is essential.
The use of the game depends on the starting up of an hour meter 34 operating with prepayment and of known type.
The introduction of a coin into the counter through the passage 35 opening into the front wall of the game, releases the zipper 36, the external traction of which ensures the winding of the clockwork mechanism and the downward oscillation of the lever 37 extending externally to the meter and which, by pressing on the arm 38 carried by the axis 39 supported at 40 and 41 immediately above the bottom of the body, forces said axis to rotate by a certain angle in the direction arrow c (Fig. 2). this rotation of the axis 39 causes, on the one hand, the lifting of the arm 42 carried by said axis, by triggering it with a notched wheel 43 wedged on the control shaft 10 of the movement of the plate,
and on the other hand the lifting of the arm 44 also carried by the axis 39 and
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
the forked end 44a of which thus frees the oscillating arm 29 which it trapped during the non-use of the game. Therefore the various control members are free and the game can be used.
The end of the clockwork movement, occurring for example after a quarter of an hour, ensures the initial return of the zipper 36 and at the same time the oscillation of the lever 37 upwards, which causes the lowering by their own weight of the arms 42 and 44, one 42 thus engaging with the notched wheel 43 to lock the control of the movement of the plate the other 44 trapping in its fork 44a and thus immobilizing the oscillating arm 29 normally hanging in the path of this fork. Stopping the counter therefore blocks the various game controls, making it unusable.
It is important to stress the fact that the construction described and shown of the game has been indicated in the present patent only by way of illustration and that in no case can the invention be considered as limited to this form. of achievement. On the contrary, all means, devices and arrangements capable of replacing in their functions those used in the construction example described above can be substituted for them without departing from the spirit of the invention.
It has already been mentioned above a few equivalent means that can be used for controlling the movement of the plate. Likewise, one could cite as an example of possible replacement of the reciprocating lifting mechanism comprising the shutter 24 and the arm 29, a continuous mechanism formed by an endless chain passing over two pinions, one of which is controlled, said chain carrying buckets collecting the balls at the end of the collecting corridor and unloading them on the raceway 15.
All game rules and conventions can be applied at will. As has been said more, the holes in the plate generally represent different values, the holes closest to the periphery of the plate logically having to be
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
those of lesser value. Some of these holes may even represent zero values, i.e. it is important for the player to avoid them. Some may even have negative values. It can also be agreed that the tumbling of a ball above the rim 5a presented by the plate leads to the elimination of all the points acquired until then by the player.
The invention provides optionally also to have on the plate 5 other objectives than the holes. For example, reversible pins can be provided on the board, to be avoided under penalty of total or partial loss of the points acquired, these pins being liftable by any external control connection system. Instead of being at. avoiding these pins could also constitute additional objectives to be reached by the balls before being directed towards a hole. A certain order can also be imposed for the overturning of the various pins.
We could also replace the pins with hoops under which the ball must pass in a certain order before it can reach a hole. Ramps, hollows, and in general any kind of obstacle could also be provided on the plateau. It can therefore be seen that it is possible to make the game according to the invention a kind of miniature golf game. It also immediately appears that the different possibilities for adapting the game extend to infinity.
As regards the commercial exploitation of the Game, the possibilities of carrying out this one are practically as limitless, Instead of the solution used in the example represented of realization of the game, one can also use that according to which the introduction of the coin in a special counter ensures the opening by this one of a shutter of the collector passage, for the time exactly necessary to let pass a determined number of balls, after which it closes again to reopen only when the introduction of a
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
new coin. The balls released by this shutter are then brought one by one onto the plate by the lifting system formed by the arm 29 and the shutter 24.
It goes without saying that the game can be done in all sizes.
The game can also be without feet and simply sit on the table. According to an inexpensive form of construction, the game box can rest on the table by short legs leaving sufficient space between the box and the table to allow the hand to reach the control members of the movement of the table, which would be. preferably provided on the underside of the body. The construction could also be simplified by leaving the body open at its upper part and by providing an external bucket in which the ball collecting corridor ends, not hampered by a shutter, the player taking the balls in this bucket to place them for example. hand on a designated spot on the board.
Finally, it goes without saying that the invention is also independent of the shapes and proportions of the game as well as of the details and the material of construction thereof, and that it should be interpreted broadly within the framework of the summary below. after which the protection requested for the means and arrangements indicated must be regarded as extending also to the means and equivalent arrangements.
