PERFECTIONNEMENTS A LA FERMETURE DE CONTENANTS, EN PARTICULIER DE CONTENANTS EN VERRE MINCE.
L'invention est relative à des perfectionnements nouveaux et utiles apportés aux récipients fermés, et concerne spécialement les récipients établis en verre mince, comme un verre à boire, et leur fermeture.
, Il existe déjà diverses formes différentes de récipients en verre actuellement d'usage courant, qui sont fermés ou scellés après avoir été remplis, mais ces récipients sont formés de verre épais, dont la résistance est suffisante pour supporter l'opération de fermeture, et comportent une lèvre épaisse autour du bord auquel la fermeture est fixée. Les verres dits "à confiture" sont des exem- ples de ce type de récipient.
L'invention envisage l'utilisation d'un certain type de verre ou gobelet à paroi mince, que l'on peut actuellement se procurer sur le marché, comme récipient ou contenant pour une gran- de variété, de produits alimentaires, comme les confitures, fromages

de ferme, conserves, olives, et analogues en sorte qu'après que le contenu a été utilisé, le verre,puisse être employé,par exemple comme verre de table pour le bénéfice de l'acheteur. Elle vise éga- lement l'utilisation de tous autres récipients, not ment en verre, à paroi mince, pour l'emballage de ces et d'autres produits.
Le problème qui se pose et les difficultés que rencon- trent ceux pour qui semblable emballage de la marchandise présente de l'intérêt, résultent en premier lieu de ce que les verres ou go- belets, ou autres récipients,à paroi mince ne présentent pas la ré- sistance nécessaire pour supporter la pression qu'il est indispensa- ble d'appliquer pour réaliser la fermeture, et en second lieu du fait que les bords ne présentent aucune prise permettant d'assurer l'accrochage du couvercle de fermeture.
L'industrie produit actuellement des verres ou gobelets, notamment en verre ,à paroi mince,pourvus d'un bourrelet à leur ou- verture leur permettant de résister à la manutention et au trans- port.
La demanderesse a découvert que grâce à ce bourrelet,qui renforce sensiblement le verre ou gobelet et procure également une légère saillie, et grâce à un couvercle ou élément de fermeture conformé d'une manière spéciale et confectionné à l'aide d'une ma- tière appropriée, il était possible de réaliser une fermeture pos- sédant toutes les qualités des meilleures fermetures jusqu'à pré- sent proposées, unissant une étanchéité parfaite à une grande faci- lité d'ouverture.
Le couvercle doit être constitué d'une matière suffisamment souple en sorte de permettre que ce couvercle puisse être effectivement amené en engagement avec le bord en bourrelet du verre ou gobelet, par une pression qui ne soit pas suffisante pour rompre la paroi mince, mais ce couvercle doit en même temps être suffisamment rigide pour conserver sa forme après applica- tion,de façon à coopérer avec le bord en bourrelet pour emprison- ner effectivement le contenu. En pratique, on a trouvé que de 1' aluminium relativement mince convient très bien dans ce but, l'in-

vention n'étant toutefois pas limitée aux couvercles établis en cette matière.
Le couvercle est en outre organisé de façon particulière, en sorte d'améliorer la fermeture et de procurer dans certains cas ' un soutien à la paroi ou bourrelet @ durant l'opéra- tion de fermeture.
IL'invention a donc pour objet de prévoir en combinaison un contenant constitué par un gobelet ou verre à boire, notamment en verre, à paroi mince, et un couvercle pour ce verre ou gobelet qui puisse y être simplement appliqué et qui ferme néanmoins effec- tivement l'ouverture du contenant, L'invention englobe non seulement la combinaison ci-dessus, mais également celles dans lesquelles le notamment contenant est constitué par un récipient,/en verre, à paroi mince de toute autre conformation.
Et, afin que l'on puisse bien comprendre comment l'inven- tion peut être réalisée, on la décrira ci-après plus en détail dans certains de ses modes d'exécution préférés, représentés, à titre d' exemple, aux dessins annexés, dans lesquels :

En se référant aux dessins, 1 désigne un gobelet ou ver- re à boire, en verre mince, comportant un bord en bourrelet 2, de section sensiblement circulaire et possédant un diamètre plus im- portant que l'épaisseur de la paroi du verre ou gobelet.
Un couvercle 3 en matière mince pliable, de diamètre lé- gèrement supérieur à celui de l'ouverture du gobelet ou verre, et portant sur sa face supérieure 4 tous dessins ou images désirés, comporte essentiellement un siège annulaire 5 (figo 4) dans lequel est placé une composition 6 de consistance plus ou moins molle,avan- tageusement en caoutchouc, et un bord tourné vers le bas, 7. Lors- que le récipient ou contenant est prêt à être fermé, le couvercle 3 est placé par dessus l'ouverture du gobelet ou verre, son bord 7 vers le bas, sensiblement parallèle au côté du verre ou gobelet.
Une machine à sceller comportant une tête de scellement,par exemple du type à galet, comme 7', rétreint alors doucement le bord 7 au- tour et en dessous du bourrelet 2 du verre ou gobelet comme il est clairement représenté à la fig. 1. Le bord ou bourrelet du verre ou gobelet est imprimé dans la composition molle 6 et le bord 7 é- tant accroché sous la partie formant bourrelet résiste effective- ment à toute pression venant de l'intérieur et qui tendrait à fai- re sauter la fermeture.
Dans la réalisation représentée à la figure 2, la garni- ture 6 a été supprimée, ce que l'on peut faire par exemple lors de l'emballage de certaines marchandises sèches, l'agencement étant sinon identique à celui de la figure 1.

On remarque- ra que cette forme peut être utilisée à la manière d'une fermeture rapide,la partie inférieure du bord du couvercle étant engagée au delà du bourrelet 2a en amenant ainsi le bourrelet dans la composi- tion de scellement 6a placée dans le siège 5a.
Si une fermeture plus résistante est désirée, la partie
7c peut être appliquée intimement contre le bourrelet de sorte que le couvercle se trouve effectivement accraché sous la partie inter- ne du bourrelet.: Cette application peut s'obtenir à l'aide d'un galet tel que 71 (fig. 1) mais placé à l'intérieur de l'ouverture du verre ou gobelet.
Dans les figures 6 et 7, le couvercle est conditionné pour être accroché sous le bourrelet tant à l'intérieur qu'à l'ex- térieur du verre ou gobelet. Cette disposition fait usage des carac- téristiques des figures 2 et 3. La figure 6 montre un gobelet lb é- tabli avec un bourrelet 2b, et montre un couvercle en matièremince 3b comportant un siège annulaire 5b et un bord rabattu 7b. Le couver- cle est établi pour s'adapter dans l'ouverture du verre ou gobelet, le siège annulaire se prolongeant vers le haut et par dessus le bord 2b, le bord 7b pendant au voisinage de la partie externe du bourrelet.
Dans la fig. 7 on a représenté un dispositif désigné dans son ensemble par A et comportant deux galets opposés B et C organisés pour accrocher simultanément le couvercle sur les côtés interne et externe du verre ou gobelet en dessous du bourrelet,

lorsque le verre ou gobelet est entrainé en rotation par tous moyens appropriés, non représentés. Lorsque l'opération d'accrochage a été complétée les galets sont dégagés, en soulevant la poignée D ce qui permet aux galets de s'écarter et de libérer le verre ou gobelet fermé.
Dans la Fig. 8, le couvercle comporte une portion inter- ne 7d sensiblement au diamètre de l'ouverture du verre ou gobelet à l'endroit du gros du bourrelet et un bord rabattu extérieur 7, en ménageant un siège annulaire 5 qui reçoit une composition de scel lement comme dans les exemples précédents.
Lorsque le couvercle est placé sur l'ouverture du verre ou gobelet, la portion 7d s'applique contre le bourrelet et forme un soutien pour ce dernier pendant l'opération de fermeture,
Cette dernière s'exécute avantageusement comme il est re- présenté schématiquement fig. 9, dans laquelle le bord 7 est entou- ré d'un organe en lui-même élastique, comme un ressort en hélice E formant un anneau continu, soutenu par un support F, et mécaniquement contracté par un organe G en forme de tronc de cône qui est abaissé vers le support F par tous moyens appropriéso
Le bord 7 du couvercle se trouve ainsi intimement appli- qué contre la paroi du verre ou gobelet en dessous du bourrelet 2.
Et l'on obtient-ainsi une fermeture qui tout en présen- tant une étanchéité parfaite, peut néanmoins être facilement ouver- te à l'aide de tout instrument comportant un tranchant ou une poin- te, comme une lame de canif par exemple, qu'il suffit d'engager dans la matière du couvercle et de conduire ensuite'de préférence sui- vant une ligne circulaire, périphérique de ce dernier, les parties restantes du couvercle pouvant dès lors s'enlever facilement.
Lorsque le contenu est utilisé, il reste un verre de belle apparen- ce utilisable comme verre à boire ou gobelet, tandis que le verre mince muni de sa fermeture constitue un emballage de bonne présen- tation et de faible poids par rapport à son contenu.
Comme il va de soi et comme on l'a déjà laissé entendre,

il est bien entendu que les formes d'exécution plus spécialement re- vendiquées et décrites ne sont que des exemples, et que l'on pour- rait y apporter des modifications sans s'écarter des limites de l'invention. Il va de soi également que l'invention englobe les autres récipients à paroi mince, ainsi que les contenants établis en une matière autre que le verre.
