<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
pression 37.
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Further training in Steam generators.
The present intention relates to an improvement in oil burners of the type which is particularly suitable for the use of steam generators and superheaters.
An important point of the invention is to provide an oil burner which delivers a fluid under pressure economically and with high efficiency.
Another feature of the invention is to provide a combustion chamber constructed in a handy manner to form an extremely compact heating block.
A third characteristic of the invention consists in that the burner is provided with a device intended to automatically cut off the arrival of fuel in the event of an explosion in the combustion chamber. The invention is further characterized by a burner constructed so as to allow the more complete use of the combustion products here, both as a means for the production of calories and as one of the constituents of the pressurized fluid.
In addition, the invention provides a burner with the above characteristics, which is relatively simple and inexpensive in construction and easy to assemble.

is provided with an outlet port 14.
A similar smaller bomb 16, carrying at its anterior part a tubular extension 17, is housed inside the bomb 10 and separated from the latter. The internal surface of the inner bomb 11 is lined with refractory bricks or of another coating 18, resistant to high temperatures, so as to constitute inside this bomb a high efficiency combustion chamber.
On the front of the appliance there is a trim 20. clear trim surrounds the connection 21, passing through the socket 13 of the burner head, and is extended inside by the widened part 22. Debt widened part 22 of the The packing takes the form of a cylinder and is provided internally with an annular rib 23. The connector 21 communicates with the inlet 25 of the fuel. In the open end of the cylinder 22 is introduced the front part of the extension 17 of the inner bomb.
An automatically sliding valve is arranged in the widened part of the gasket 20. The valve comprises a perforated disc 27 (Figs. 6 and 7) and a solid disc 28, these two discs being made integral because the rod 29. The two discs 27 and 28 have a larger diameter than the inner diameter of the rib 23, and located on either side of this rib.
As long as the pressure in the fuel inlet pipe is greater than the pressure inside the combustion chamber, the valve will occupy the position of Fig. 6. In this position, the fuel can reach the tube 17 by passing through the perforations of the disc 27.
if, as a result of an explosion or any other cause, the pressure on the right-hand part of the valve exceeds that of the combustion chamber, the valve will automatically be pushed towards the gaucho, in its closed position. It will thus stop the arrival of a new quantity of fuel in the appliance, until the pressure inside
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
device will return to normal.
An ignition apparatus 31, for example a spark plug, which can be electrically connected to a suitable current source to ensure ignition of the fuel. passes through the two bombs and comes flush with the inner wall of the chamber (combustion 17.
In the bomb 16, constituted the combustion chamber, is mounted a heating sleeve, generally represented by 33 and constituted, in the current example, by a series of cylinders, separated from each other and joined by small horizontal tubes, placed sometimes at the top and sometimes at the bottom, the so-called cylinders. The front end of said sleeve 33 communicates by a tube 34 with the space between the two bombs? 10 and 16.
Likewise the rear end of the sleeve 33 communicates with the combustion chamber, and more exactly with its tubular extension 17, by means of a tube 35, running through the combustion chamber in its entire length. This 35 'tube ends up opposite the disc 28 of the valve
Fig. 8 shows how the generator apparatus is connected to supply a stationary machine and other auxiliary apparatus. The tubular 37, bringing the pressurized fluid to the engine, communicates with the interior of the chamber (combustion after having passed through the two bombas. The engine of use is indicated, by way of example, at 39.
The fuel oil, '% connecting a tank 40, arrives at the injection nozzle under pressure, this pressure being supplied by the pump 41. The air is supplied, by the pipe 42, also under pressure, with the aid. of the pump 43. This air is mixed with the fuel oil just before being introduced into the combustion chamber. The feed water is supplied to the space between the soft bombs 10 and 16 through the pump 45 and the piping 4 @.
A bypass 46 is taken from the water supply piping and terminates in the piping containing the fluid under
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
pressure 37. A tap 47 is interposed in this bypass and allows to control the water supply to the piping 37. It is also possible to preheat the supply water, by making it pass through a coil 48, surrounded by a jacket, through which the engine exhaust gases flow, arriving via line 49.
Designed as shown in the drawing, the Engine 39 can be used to operate oil, water, and air compressor pumps.
While the apparatus is in operation, the pressurized air, arriving through the pipe 42, is mixed with the fuel oil, arriving through the pipe 25, just before their introduction into the apparatus. The pressure of the oil-air mixture is such that the valve is normally pushed to the right, in its open position, so that the fuel is pushed, through the perforations of the disc? 7, into the reduced tubular extension of the combustion chamber, where it is ignited with the aid of the candle 31. In one embodiment, the combustion chamber andthe two bombs have dimensions such that the flame brings the water in the boiler to its boiling point. under the pressure used.
The steam thus produced enters the tube 34 and arrives at the heating sleeve 33, where it is superheated. The superheated steam, leaving the heating element, is led through tube 35 into the combustion chamber, where it mixes with the fuel. The steam, mixed with the fuel, preferably exceeds the proportion necessary to maintain combustion of the fuel. combustible mixture. The mixture of steam and combustion products is conducted, via the pipe 37, to the operating engine 39.
When the mixture, coming from the generator, contains a relatively high proportion of combustion gas, a certain quantity of water can be added to it via the bypass 46, by acting on the tap 47. The water thus introduced is released. vaporized by direct contact with gases and increases
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
thus the proportion of steam, contained in the mixture supplied to the engine.
EMI6.1
When desired, the bombs 10 and 16 can be constructed so that the water contained in the outer bomb is not vaporized. The heating sleeve 33 then receives hot water, and it is this which, in this case, serves as a steam generator.
EMI6.2
Can we also increase? the pressure in the s & 161ateut by pumping compressed air in the bomb extoriewed by the tubing lf.2 '.
It is also true that, although the use of fuel oil or other liquid fuels is preferable, it is possible to use, '1Tec iiralitags, pulverized coal or any other similar fuel, where the conditions of use of these conductors would present certain advantages
