<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

method and machine for obtaining twisted yarns.
The present invention relates to a method and a machine for assembling, twisting and winding into skeins or skeins of yarn, wool or other textile materials.
As is well known, the operations of assembling and twisting the yarns intended to be wound up into a skein or skein have hitherto been carried out separately.
A certain number of reels carrying the son to be assembled are first of all unwound in a so-called "assembler" machine in which two or more of these son are wound up on the same reel. This is then transported to a second machine called a “milling machine” in which these yarns thus assembled in advance are unwound and twisted in order to then be wound up into skeins and skeins.
This use of two different kinds of machines and

two successive operations is eliminated, in accordance with the present invention, by the fact that the wires to be assembled are led directly, during the unwinding of the coils which carry them, into a device which brings them together and twists them simultaneously in a single operation during their passage through a thread guide bringing them to the device and winding in skeins or skeins.
In the practical embodiment of the invention, the simultaneous assembly and twisting are carried out by means of a spindle, established so as to receive the coils of which the elementary threads are to be assembled, spindle which bears, at its part. upper, a plate with a central thread guide in the form of a ring and peripheral thread guide giving twist to the threads as they pass through an upper thread guide.
The accompanying drawing shows by way of example one embodiment of the invention.
FIG. 1 is a schematic view showing the overall arrangement of the new machine known as “collator-mill”.
Figure 2 is a separate, enlarged view of the spindle and Figure 3 is a plan view of the upper part of the spindle showing the plate and the thread guides for producing the twist during the unwinding of the threads. to assemble,
In the example shown, there is shown a spindle 1 provided as usual with a pulley 2 rotated by a rope or belt 3 coming from a drum 4. This spindle rotates in its support 5 and is held by a crosspiece 6 above which it presents a plate 7 carrying a certain number of skewers 8 (fig. 2), for example four, intended to receive the various coils carrying the elementary threads which must be joined together and twisted to form twisted yarns to be wound in skeins or skeins.
Spit 3 extends above skewers 8 and

carries at its upper part a disc 9 provided without its central part with a raised ring 10 and, at its periphery, open rings 11 arranged in the plane of small openings 12 formed around the periphery of the disc and whose number corresponds the number of skewers 8. 13 represents a yarn guide arranged at the front of the upper cross member 14 of the machine and 15 the device for winding the yarns assembled and twisted in the form of skeins or skeins.
As shown in the drawing, the spools 16 carrying the elementary threads to be assembled and twisted, are placed on the skewers 8. The thread 17 of each spool passes first through the opening 12 located in the vertical axis of each bobbin and then in 1rings 10 to return to the corresponding open ring 12 and then to pass again in the central ring 10 and to go to the thread guide 13 and finally to the winding device 15.
Under these conditions, the elementary wires coming from the coils 16 are united by their passage through the ring 10 and are driven by the latter and by the peripheral open rings 11 in the rotation of the spindle 1 so as to take twist between ring 10 and upper thread guide 13.
After passing through this yarn guide, the twisted yarn thus formed is wound up in a skein or skein by the device 15.
As will easily be appreciated, the two assembly and twisting operations are therefore carried out simultaneously in a single operation during the unwinding of the coils 16, between them and. the skein winding device 15. The result is not only an economy in material but also a significant saving in labor and an increase in efficiency provided by the simultaneity of the two operations. In addition, the evenness obtained in the twist of the compound yarn is greater than when using two operations carried out on separate machines.
