<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Movable floating bridge. The present invention relates to a system
EMI1.1
floating bridge displ-açab7.e, that is to say capable of being lifted from the airlock supports and then transported outside the channel through which it is used to operate the junction of two parts of a road for example.
Its aim is to provide a bridge system meeting this condition and which is capable of being possibly lifted from its supports manually, despite its relatively high weight, so as to allow movement without the intervention of a mechanical force or electrical, if for some reason the source of motive power fails, as may be the case in particular in the case of bridges whose operation depends on the supply of electric current by a central power station.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The invention also aims to ensure the maneuvering of a similar bridge in a minimum of time despite its manual control and this so that if necessary the bridge can be quickly lifted from its supports and transported out of the way. channel where it would constitute an obstacle to the passage of boats.
With a view to achieving this goal, the bridge, object of the invention, is characterized essentially by the fact that it is maintained on its supports by a ballast composed of two parts, a fixed part of which is established to maintain the bridge. by means of its floats at a minimum distance above the supports, a constant distance depending on the level of the waterline, and the other part of which is constituted by a movable ballast formed for example by means of the water of the channel, across which the bridge is mounted, special provisions being taken to ensure on the one hand the activation of this mobile ballast so as to ensure the descent of the bridge on its supports and on the other hand the disabling of action of this ballast in the event that the bridge must be lifted in order to move it.
In the practical embodiment of the invention, the mobile ballast is formed by means of water which can enter freely through the opening of valves in a lower compartment of the floats and this water can then, while the bridge rests on its supports and is in service, be raised by means of a hand pump, for example in an upper compartment above the normal level of the water in the channel, so that the opening of relief valves is sufficient to produce the flow:
the ce ballast in the channel and consequently the lifting of the bridge. During these lifting and lowering movements, the bridge is guided by means of guides
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
movable in bushings integral with the axes of the running rollers, movable in horizontal guide rails such that when the bridge has performed the necessary lifting to be released from its supports, it can be moved by hand or mechanically, for example with the help of propellers, along the horizontal guides, so as to be led outside the passage which it must release.
The accompanying drawing shows schematically an embodiment of the invention. In this example, the bridge I whose frame rests by V-shaped supports 2 on support plates 3 of corresponding shape carried by the abutments 4 of the bridge, serves to connect two parts 5 and 6, for example of a road intersected by a channel 7. The conditions of use of the channel are assumed to be such that, to allow the passage of boats or maritime transport of any kind through this channel, the bridge must be moved from its normal position and brought, for example, to a special position. provided for this purpose and used to park it temporarily.
In order to allow this displacement, the bridge must be able to be lifted from its supports 2-3 by a sufficient quantity to be completely free so that it can then be moved by flotation: To facilitate the clearance of the abutments, the longitudinal beams of the bridge are provided with rollers 8 Wanting in angles or horizontal guideways 9. For this purpose, the axes 10 of the rollers 8, constantly occupying the same level, are provided with guide sleeves 11 in which the bridge is guided vertically by rods 12.
In the example shown, the bridge 1 established in the form of a flattering bridge, rests on floats 13 and, in accordance with the invention, these floats have separate compartments 14-15-16. The compartments 14
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
contain sufficient fixed ballast to put the bridge at a distance, for example 10 to 15 cm above the supports, a constant distance depending on the waterline level. The compartments 15 can be placed in communication at their lower part by valves 17 with the channel 7 and contain the movable ballast which is added to the bridge by the opening of the valves 17 so as to allow the quantity of water required to lower the bridge onto its supports 3.
In these compartments 15, the suction pipe 18 of a pump 19, for example a hand pump, is immersed, allowing the movable ballast contained in the compartment 15. These compartments 16 can be brought up into the compartment 16. their side, be placed in communication by valves 20 with the channel 7 so as to allow a rapid flow of their contents in the channel 7. Under these conditions, to lower the bridge on supports, the valves 17 are opened which allow ' , without pumping, the introduction of water into the compartments 15, the capacity of which is calculated exactly according to the distance to be obtained from the supports in order to maneuver them.
The introduction of water into these compartments therefore produces the descent of the bridge.
When the bridge is wedged on its supports and is in service, the pump 19 makes it possible to raise the water from the compartment 15 into the compartment 16 established in order to allow an acceleration of the maneuvers. In fact, this compartment being disposed above the water level, it suffices to shift the bridge of the supports 2-3 to open the discharge valves 20. These valves are established in sufficient number to empty the compartments 16 in a few minutes.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
It will be noted that the arrangement described consequently makes it possible to carry out a manual control of the lifting of the bridge, essential in the event of a lack of electric current; this hand control makes it possible to prepare the maneuver without suspending the service of the bridge. When the bridge is lifted from its supports, its tmnslation can be obtained in any appropriate way, either by hand, or by means of winches, or even by means of propellers 21 actuated by electric motors and acting on the floats.
If each float is provided with a similar propeller, the bridge disengages from the abutments and moves in the desired direction while being guided by the rollers 8 between the supports 9.
To completely electrify the bridge, it suffices to place a small electric pump in parallel with the hand pump.
The invention is obviously not limited to the example described above. and it is thus in particular that if there was a water reserve at a higher level, near the bridge, for example a water tower or a watercourse, the mobile ballast descent of the bridge could be brought directly into the tank 16 to put the bridge on its supports. Without this case, the reservoir 15 could be removed ev all the maneuver reducing to the opening of the valves 20 to cause the lifting of the bridge.
