<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Control device for propellers, especially applicable to air navigation.
The present invention relates to a control device for propellers driven by one or more engines, especially applicable to air navigation; this device is conditioned in such a way that the transfer of the rotational movement from one or the other of the motors to the propeller shaft can be interrupted at will.
Currently in control mechanisms of this type, it is very difficult to separate the effective connection existing between the motor and the propeller shaft when one of the motors stops operating. When it comes to disengaging the claw clutch when the engine speed is lowered.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Being the motor and the gear train, it is very difficult to choose the exact moment when the relative force of the two components is zero. It is therefore practically impossible to perform this disengagement in time and then build up the lateral pressure between the claws of the clutch. The continues to remain high, this disengagement remains impracticable.
In order to obviate this drawback, according to the invention, an arrangement has been taken which automatically performs, at the precise moment of balance of forces, the separation of the clutch members by acting on the operating lever arranged for the control of the disjunction of the claw clutch.
The device forming the subject of the present invention has the advantage of being provided with a locking mechanism which is involved in determining the moment of disengagement of the coupling, this locking mechanism being subject to the influence. an elastic device placed downstream or upstream of the clutch to be disengaged, so that the definitive disjunction of the active disengagement occurs automatically at a time when the reciprocal lateral pressure of the clutch claws is sufficient low so that the clutch maintenance can be disconnected without any effort, strictly speaking.
In the accompanying drawing, given by way of example, an embodiment of the control device according to the invention has been shown, with a view to a command comprising two motors acting on an aviation propeller.

'cée roughly following the plan III - III of fig 1.
The propeller shaft S carries a bevel gear 1 which constantly meshes with bevel gears 2 and 3.
These can be connected to the motors by the intersection of claw clutches 4,5, the end faces of which are inclined in such a way (Fig. 2) that the part rotating less quickly 4 of 1. ' clutch forming part of the motor shaft, is driven back by la'partie 5 rotating faster belonging to the propeller. This mechanism is used to allow the addition of one or the other motor at any time.
To each of the bevel wheels 2 and 3 is connected a part -, 5 of the clutch and the assembly is secured by means of, 'bearings 6 and 7 in the fixed housing 8. Each part 4 of the clutch. The clutch is connected to a shaft 4 'connected to the drive shaft by the input of a clutch known as the articulated lamella clutch. This comprises in the present case on the one hand a toothed part m coming from foundry with the motor shafts M1 and M2 and on the other hand a part 9 placed on the groove shaft 4 'while being provided with a crown toothed 10 whose teeth fit into those of part m.
Between the parts 9 and m are the elastic strips 11. The claws 10 engage in the part m serve to guarantee the safety of the strips 11. These teeth engage with a certain clearance in the respective grooves and this so as to be able to respond to the elongation of the lamellae and of the cable sections introduced into the lamellae. This avoids too much force on the blades, especially when starting the engine with the propeller engaged. Lntre the parts Mq and M2 and the tree trunk 4 'is interposed a locking device comprising an externally toothed plate 12 fixed on the shaft 4' and a ring gear 13 from the foundry with the parts M1 and M2.
The control movement of the clutch part 4 is
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
effected by the longitudinal displacement of the shaft 4 '. For this purpose, the latter carries, by means of a bearing 14, a rod 15 advantageously guided by a tenon 16. This part 15 is provided with a pitch of.
Tris extension 17 on which engages the fixed threaded nut 18 provided with the control lever 19, connected to the operating rod 20, the head of which is formed by a bracket 20 ', provided with a slide for the hinged boulin. Inside this caliper is arranged a compressed spring 21 such that it produces the final disengagement as soon as the disengagement of the coupling 4, 5 has been initiated.
According to the device, object of the present application, in the event of a sudden failure of one of the motors occurring during operation, the disengagement of the respective coupling 4,5 takes place when the device motor ceases to act in the normal direction of travel, that is to say that as long as the motor is pulling, the disengagement of the coupling 4, 5 is still prevented by the mechanism of locking constituted by the toothed plate 12 and the toothed crown 13.
When the coupling 4, 5 is engaged, the plate 12 is in the position shown in the drawing. Thanks to the disc clutch m, 9, 11, the gear is resiliently connected to the motor. The torque generated during the control results in a rotary displacement of the two halves of the clutch m, 9, which produces a reciprocal displacement of the teeth 12, 13. When the disengagement of the clutch is initiated. coupling 4,5 through rod 20 and spring 21 and when the torque decreases along with the speed of rotation for some reason, the elastic member 11, 9 is also disengaged .
At the instant when the torque becomes negative, that is to say at the instant when the propeller will tend to drive the motor, the intermediate member m, 11, 9 occupies its position zero, which allows the plate 12 to pass through the teeth 13 and the member 4 to obey the tension of the spring 21., The claws 4,5 quit and the coupling is disengaged.
