<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

"COMBINED VOLTAGE & CURRENT MEASUREMENT TRANSFORMER"
By combining current transformers and voltage transformers for supplying low-voltage devices from high-voltage networks, attempts have been made in various ways to reduce the size and cost of manufacture of such apparatus. Thus, a solution has been proposed recently, according to which the iron core of the voltage transformer is at the potential of the line in the circuit of which is also the primary winding of the current transformer, the latter winding
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
being driven along the iron core of the voltage transformer.
The current transformer iron core, with the surrounding current transformer secondary winding, is insulated from the voltage transformer core, for full voltage. The primary winding of the voltage transformer is connected either between the high voltage line and the earth, or, according to other executions, between the phases of this line. It has progressive insulation with respect to the core of the voltage transformer, corresponding to its voltage with respect to this core.
Such instrument transformers have the disadvantage that the magnetic core of the current transformer as well as that of the voltage transformer must be interrupted by a transverse insulation, otherwise the core of the voltage transformer would form a coil. short circuit of the current transformer and similarly the core of the current transformer would constitute a short circuit turn of the voltage transformer. In addition, the core of the current transformer is longer than that of other transformers under the same conditions.
The combined instrument transformer which is the object of the present invention avoids these drawbacks. It is formed so that the magnetic circuit of the voltage transformer is at the potential of the line to which the primary winding of the current transformer is connected, and that this winding runs along said magnetic circuit, and is characterized by the fact that the primary winding
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
of the current transformer is arranged so as to be, partly in contact with the iron of the magnetic circuit of the voltage transformer, and partly devoid of iron, the magnetic circuit of the current transformer being arranged around the part of the primary winding devoid of iron.
Other characteristics will become apparent during the description.
The drawings give examples of the many possibilities for carrying out the invention.
Figure 1 shows schematically the active part of a combined measuring transformer whose primary winding of the voltage transformer is connected between the phases of a high voltage network. Figure 2 shows, under the same conditions, a device in which the primary winding of the voltage transformer is connected between a high voltage line and earth. in the two figures, the same letters designate the same organs.
The magnetic circuit of the voltage transformer is represented by 1, its primary winding by 2 and its secondary winding by 3. The insulations of these windings with respect to the iron core are represented respectively by 4 and 5. The primary winding of the transformer d intensity is represented by 7 it is put in contact by one of its
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
points, with the magnetic circuit 1 and partly runs along certain branches of it.
According to the invention, a part of this winding is arranged so as not to be adjacent to the iron of the magnetic circuit. It is around this part that the magnetic circuit 9 of the current transformer, carrying the secondary winding 10, is arranged.
The insulation of the core 9 from the high voltage winding is represented by 8. Compensation windings 6 are provided to adjust the magnetic flux to the same value throughout the core 1. In the case considered, the conductor 7 runs along the left branch of magnetic circuit 1; it can equally well be arranged along the right branch or comprise turns arranged along the two branches as shown in Figure 2.
The two windings 2 and 3 of the voltage transformer can be arranged either on different branches of the magnetic circuit as shown in figure 1 or on the same branch as shown in figure 2. In the latter case, they can be placed on the same insulating body; the primary winding being suitably distributed on either side of the secondary winding.
According to the invention, the different parts of the primary winding, which are connected in series in the particular case shown, are interconnected by connections passing inside the insulating body carrying the two windings; these connections being put in
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
electrical contact with cylindrical conductive surfaces arranged inside said insulating body for the distribution of potentials in the mass.
In this way, the insulation works under regular electrical stress and therefore in good conditions, which makes it possible to provide it with relatively small dimensions, all other things being equal.
The arrangement indicated in connection with the insulation of the voltage transformer can advantageously be extended to the insulation of the current transformer.
The primary winding of the current transformer shown is arranged symmetrically with respect to the uprights of the magnetic circuit 1.
It can be either on the same plane as these, or more advantageously on a different plane, so that the assembly can rationally occupy the section of a cylindrical tank.
The active part of the combined transformer can be made so that it can be placed in a protective container in the form of a feed-through insulator or a cable end box.
The bushing insulator in which the active part of the combined transformer would be placed can be open at one of its ends; provision applicable to expansion tank transformers.
Finally, the combined transformer can be inserted into a high voltage line by being suspended from a string of insulators.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
The transformer forming the subject of the invention, it is true, in relation to known similar devices, additional insulation due to the particular arrangement of the current transformer; on the other hand, it can be achieved with less expenditure of iron and copper. Its dimensions are smaller than those of said similar devices and its qualities from the point of view of electrical measurements much higher.
